Christus factus est
Motet for SATB, WAB 11
Lyrics: Philippians 2,8-9
Music: Anton Bruckner
Performed by: Westminster Cathedral Choir
Text:
Christus factus est pro nobis obediens usque ad mortem, mortem autem crucis.
Propter quod et Deus exaltavit illum et dedit illi nomen, quod est super omne nomen.
Extraordinary moment from the extraordinary Papacy of Benedict XVI.
This Holy Father is sorely missed. Viva il Papa Emeritus!! Vivi il Papa Franciscus!!
Eu consigo sentir Jesus com essa música! A igreja católica faz parecer estarmos já no céu! Louvado seja Jesus!
The piece is really powerfull to remaind us of the great sacrifice of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Wonderful dellivery.
the full Glory of the Catholic Church, with Peter at its head, is just, well no words can really describe it
An undeniably great choir. Fantastic.
I'm an Anglican. we sang this piece at a Tenebrae service on Good Friday 2011 and it was very moving. this is a good rendition of the composition.
This is simply astonishing.
Bloody Awesome!
Bravo Martin!
Bravi WC Choristers!
Beautiful!
Great performance of the whole chorus.
In the ending part, the organ is so chilly :O .
Cool
Vivat Papa Noster Benedictus XVI!

The Mass is the peak, the point, and the most important event that can occur in the Church, and yes, His crucifixion is the most joyful thing in a christian's life, becouse He took away our sins by being obedient until death, that he accepted, innocent. The rest of your comment I don't understand, and I really don't wont to.
Wow. Gutsy and without inhibition. Love the hairpin at the end!
What a mise en scène! Music, scenery, props. on the stage of a theatrical production.
The Holy sacrifice of the Mass is not a worldly, secular “theatrical production”. To describe it as such would demonstrate your lack of understanding of the true nature of the liturgy.
It is a really difficult piece to sing, the harmonies are tricky - well, real Anton Bruckner - however I agree that the ff at stages is exaggerated and somewhat shrill - yes, Bruckner treated voices as if they were pipe-organs, asking a tremendous range, particularly from the altos, but that shows the quality of a choir to be able to cope with that - whereas the pp does not actually come out as such. Also the tempo is probably a little bit too slow.
Nevertheless, thanks for sharing!
perdamaian, perdamaian, perdamaian, perdamaian
is there no relation between the music and the ceremony movie?
@Menechem ok.
Great drama.....
Christus factus est pro nobis obediens,
Christ was made for us obedience
usque ad mortem, mortem autem crucis.
even to death, death on the cross.
Propter quod et Deus exaltavit illum et dedit illi nomen,
Wherefore God exalted Him and gave Him a name
quod est super omne nomen.
which is above all names.
based on Philippians 2:8-9, Clementine Vulgate slightly altered
Humiliavit semetipsum factus obediens usque ad mortem, mortem autem crucis.
9 Propter quod et Deus exaltavit illum, et donavit illi nomen, quod est super omne nomen:
I think it doesn't mean "was made", but "became", from fieri, not from facere, so the sentence means "He became the saviour for us, obediently (to the Father)"
Transcendent choir vocals . . . then creepy organ music. ;)
They're astonishing, but what do you mean by transcendent?
Sublime, to cross above and take one into realms unseen.
Hahaha, yeah, creepy... Make the offertory uneasy feeling to the mysterious eucharist
I wonder if by any chance there were anglican ''clergy'' co-celebrating?
Arrogant Romanism is the bane of Catholic spirituality.
@muenchner1000 First of all I made a typo, it should read 9 & 10. Secondly, if you knew the books in the Bible, you would know I'm refering to the Epistle to the Hebrews, found in the New Testament.Salvation comes only through faith in the LORD YESHUA(JESUS),not through Rome and it's teachings.Yeshua did not institute cannibolism,He said DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME,Hebrews 9 &10 teaches He was offered ONCE AND FOR ALL TIME,thus you are trying to recrucify Him at every mass, you're in violation.
😶
What a wonderfull choir, and what a terrible audio...
@Menechem
Oh please.
You Hebrews with your depressions and violations. The simple translation would be: "Christ is sacrificed for us, obedient until death, death on the cross. Hence the God elevated him and gave him a name; name above every name." Why would it be offensive to Hebrews?
I love this piece too!!! It will be performed in Carnegie Hall in 2015!! ua-cam.com/video/ox3xFQvndmg/v-deo.html
Lay persons have no right to tough these sacred gifts!
@Menechem The "ok" was intended to make you stop. But, since you haven't, here is my final message:
Please don't write anymore, you wrote 5 comments replying to my one, and I still don't seam to get you.
I don't hate anybody, I just hate the fact that you, Hebrews, who are without a doubt a fascinating people, did great deeds in science and art, so terribly selfish, because you treat yourself as you were the only ones who suffered. You're not. Amen, aleluia.
They say a papal apostolic benediction bestows grace, I thought Grace came ONLY FROM GOD, GATHER, SON, AND HOLY SPIRIT? A man cannot bestow God's grace, only God can to the believer!
Sadly, the quality of the recording is poor, and the choir should learn that "ff" does not mean "as loud as you think you can" but "very loud, but not shrill"
Why don't women have to cover their head any longer when in a Catholic church?
The women of the Church have cnformd themselves more to the secular world around them then to Christ.
can the pope really make anything holy....can he even speak or write his own name, whatever that is......
@muenchner1000 Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men. And when He had come as a man in His external form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death-even to death on a cross. (Phil. 2:7-8 HCSB) As we read in Romans, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW,AND EVERY TONGUE CONFESS THAT JESUS CHRIST(YESHUA HA MASHIACH)IS LORD!May we soon see that day when all humanity declares YESHUA IS LORD!I hope that when you said OK,you'll stop with the hate!
NO, anglicans dont have valid holy orders
Such delusion. However the music is beautiful :)
This does not glorify God, this violates Hebrews 9&19.
