    but am i right in saying that Abu Ghraib doesn't give evidence for conformity to social roles, as here it is explained that the behaviour was caused by internal factors such as boredom etc. rather than their social roles? im confused whether this counts as evidence for external situational factors or internal dispositional factors.

      Although It’s not exactly the same as the Stanford prison study, Zimbardo argued that the events at Abu Ghraib could be explained by social roles and the situation the soldiers were in. The factors like boredom and fear, would have just added to the situation (just be aware that boredom is not a dispositional factor).
      So in terms of an evaluation point, you can say that a strength of the Stanford prison study is that it can be used to explain atrocities, such as the events at Abu Ghraib, and help to prevent them in the future.
