I'm a nationally ranked athlete and decorated soldier and ballet is simply so brutally difficult, that almost no one can do it much less be a star. I have such respect for all of you and it's people like you that make this world a far far better place. I live for children, animals and the arts. Without them, it's hard to think of reasons to keep going on. thanks and may God continue to bless you Sabrina.
THANK YOU for sharing this video. I've seen so many pointe shoe videos where the dancers have perfect feet and toes, especially considering the heavy work they do on their toes; but this is the first video I have seen of someone with injured and imperfect toenails. This has been a deep insecurity with me for my whole dancing career, especially when I worry that my crumbling toenails will keep me from advancing on pointe. It means so much that you'd have the courage to display that kind of imperfection for the whole world. We are dancers because of the love we have for dance not because it's safe and comfortable.
Alina Georgeson I've definitely seen worse. a lot worse. this is pretty much what a ballerinas feet look like (maybe not the missing toe nail lol) but there's bunions and blisters and calluses galore.
They’ll remove your toenail if you’re constantly having issues with it. I’m sure ingrown toenails for these girls are horrendous, removing it was probably a blessing.
Just keep doing it, you'll build good muscle memory. The first time I arched my foot in the ballet class I'm in right now (its my first time in 4 years) my foot cramped up. But as long as you keep doing it you should be good :) btw im getting my pointe shoes next year probably sometime in February or March so I'm psyched!!!!
All that work of construction and preparation, to create that fleeting moment of weightless magic, using something so meticulously crafted soon to be discarded. What a unique art ballet is.
My first pointe shoes were capezio contempora and I was kind of shocked it wasn’t Bloch since everyone else had bloch but now I know that the most popular shoes doesn’t mean it’s the best shoe for you.
The first person to fit me for ballet shoes put me in Russian Grishkos because I'm taller. There's no way my feet could break those shoes in! I ended up going to a much softer brand which didn't last very long but man anything was better than having your feet in concrete shoes!
Im in grade 5 ballet.. my teacher announced the girls who are going on pointe and I wasn't expecting to be allowed, but I have to say I was still disappointed when she told me I cant 🙃
I thought they started pointe in Intermediate Foundation. Maybe, it's different for all Dance Studios. Which Method of Ballet do you do? (E.g RAD, Vaganova, Cecchetti, Bournonville)
XxDancingStarsxX RAD. We're starting pointe work now (all of us), and the girls she announced are going on pointe in September, when we start intermediate foundation. The rest of us have to wait until October. (Funny you comment now, I literally just got out of ballet class lmao)
Last year I had only been dancing for 5-6 mothns and expected to get pointe shoes and was so dissapointed when I diddn't. But now I've been dancing for 1 year and 3 months and am going on pointe in september. I'm so proud that I was able to improve so quickly. BTW i'm almost 14
im 14 too and to go on pointe is a tough thing to achieve because your feet need to get strong so you wont break anything ive been dancing for 7 years and been on pointe for 4 years i love it so much
She went on pointe when she was nine!!😱 I wish my muscles where slightly more developed because I want to go on pointe SOOO bad. Can’t wait until then.
I q' not A professional. Far from actually. But in Class I Just don't think About the pain, but About al the corrections I got or What I need to do to do this specific moment, but when I take them off. Then the pain hits
Personally, it doesn’t hurt much for me while dancing, it’s more numb, but when you take the shoes off it’s much more sore. But i have a high pain tolerance.
Numbness between the first toe and second toe is actually what I would get. And when you take the shoes off that numbness can hang out for days, I was concerned it was going to become permanent at some point. Luckily it's long faded since I stopped wearing point shoes. As someone mentioned below, it was really the most painful when you would take the shoes off. You just wanted to stick your feet in icewater !
Wow I have so much respect for her going through so much pain for her passion 💖I hope there came /comes time enough for hear feat to heal ❤️a looooong wonderful vacation 4 example 🤗🌴🍍
This is very exiting 😂😂😂 I’m trying a ballet class soon and probably will be enrolling!!! I’m hoping to get to the point later on to be on pointe, I’m very exited,I used to do ballet but after the season was over I did hip hop and HATED it I didn’t like the people in my class because the age range was way to big and the older girls were bitches so I left and never looked back,I’ve been watching these videos, remembering how it felt and how happy it made me..I miss it a lot so here goes nothing😂🤷🏻♀️
It takes a long time to build up strength from turning out your foot, and excercising it as a ballerina. If this is your 1st ballet class, you most likely won't be on pointe. I've been dancing for 5 years and still not on pointe!
Repeated toe stubbing is literally Armageddon! And some just keep kicking corners of tables and leg chairs. Imagine being a chronic toe stubber and cup knocker. 🙈🧦🥛🙀
I started ballet when I was 11 and next year I'm turning 13,my teachers tell me that I'm very good at it and my feet are strong and my arches are very good.I really want to get point shoes so my next performance will be in point and also I can't get people saying "why you aren't on point?you should be!"I really want to cry because I don't have them....
Even if you got your point shoes you wouldn't be doing a performance in them. It can take months to get to the point where you can actually stand up in them and not grip the bar. They're a lot more painful than they look and you really really need to have extremely strong calves. So don't rush it, wait until your feet are actually ready.
I don’t know if it’s bad but I just got my pointe shoes on January 14 or something like that and to me it doesn’t hurt that bad but at times it does but my teacher says I do it correctly please explain
Going on pointe can really hurt your toes so I put bandaids or tape around mine to keep them from blistering, as u can see she is missing a toenail. That can happen a lot to some dancers because you’re putting all your weight on your ankles and toes, it’s really painful
I actually have a similar story so far xD I have a signed Pointe shoe from Tulsa Ballet, I do things while wearing it that I shouldnt be doing yet, but... Im not en pointe yet so we'll see xD I just got into Tulsa ballet school xD
In the front of the shoe is a square box. You are actually standing with your feet inside a small box. And you're literally on the tips of your toes. The shoes are just white enough for your toes to be squished together in a straight line..
Tara N No I meant still are strong (even stronger!) and you will get there it is truly magical! Yes that is also my picture I got a photo shoot done for my 13th bday!
Tara N that’s so cool! I believe in you! Did you know that misty coopland started dancing at 13 and she’s an amazing profesional!? I am the youngest at my studios pre professional program and it’s hard but I never give up... EVER!
Tara N With hard work you got this! Edit: you can soak your feet in methaled spirits to get the skin the become hard and tougher bc I have thin skin too lol!
Yes she is missing her big toe nail. Ballerinas feet are not pretty. Most of the times after a long show your toes can turn black from bruising. Ballerinas feet tend to become long and boney through out the years because your foot "becomes one with the shoe" meaning ur foot slowly changes for the pioint shoes. As a ballerina, and I hope I speak for the rest (flats or points) the pain is nothing because at the end and in the moment it's just to gorgeous to feel and be apart of. 💕
A lot of my toenails got f***** up because of my pursuits and ballet I was angry and I was thinking like crazy how to undo the situation... Rectify the damage, so to speak... but looking on here makes me realize it's all perfectly normal hell, it's a rite of passage and the women go through worse and that's why they're the stars of the ballet always even when a guy like Baryshnikov is up there. It's a price paid it's a hefty price but it's why ballet is really the art of the woman.
Squishy :3 If you feel no pain doing it without shoes, then you are either not doing it correctly or you aren't getting over your platform, so don't act like you are good or amazing. You are probably just going on high relevè or demi pointe.
Can you believe all of this? So much respect to every pointe dancer and ballerina
Your Ego thank you 😉
Thank you!!!!
Aw thanks
I’m going en pointe in 2 months wish me luck lol
My first time dancing on pointe was genuinely my most cherished memory other than the birth of my daughter.
Jojo Sagewitch o
Jojo Sagewitch ok?
good for you ;) I bet you dance beautiful
So which one was the most cherished memory or its both
OK...
I'm a nationally ranked athlete and decorated soldier and ballet is simply so brutally difficult, that almost no one can do it much less be a star. I'm so excited to go on pointe!!!
The Perks of Being Sveva oh gurl I'm so exited for you
MR r Thanks boo! xox
The Perks of Being Sveva Is This your First time? How old are you?
Marika Mompoint yeah it's my first time and I'm 14. I don't want to go into professional ballet anyway but I'm still quite excited lol
The Perks of Being Sveva That's Good !!!
THANK YOU for sharing this video. Alina Georgeson Absolutely. Nothing Is easy in This world
Marika Mompoint güzel
Alina Georgeson I've definitely seen worse. a lot worse. this is pretty much what a ballerinas feet look like (maybe not the missing toe nail lol) but there's bunions and blisters and calluses galore.
lauren is gorgeous
0:28 omg she no longer has a nail !
mes textes à moi thats ballet for ya
Ne t'inquietes pas ca depend vraiment des personnes ! Toutes les danseuses n'ont pas perdu leurs ongles xD
Mérédith B haha tu parles français 😂 oui bha sa fait peur quand même 😂
Most dancers dont have a lot of toe nails left
mes textes à moi dancers en pointe loose their nails all the time
omg, Ms Archer is missing her big toenail. I guess that's ballet on pointe for you
steemdup yep pretty much
steemdup it's actually Sabrina's foot
They’ll remove your toenail if you’re constantly having issues with it. I’m sure ingrown toenails for these girls are horrendous, removing it was probably a blessing.
steemdup thats why I put toe tape
I lost my big toenail. Pointe shoes can damage your toes, but I don’t really mind since I love dancing in them 😊
I tried to arch my feet for a sec as I was watching this video and I got cramps.
tetrulz jam That's sad...
same and it hurt
tetrulz jam Yeah, many dancers start really young, because you want to build your muscles to support all of the work that goes into ballet.
tetrulz jam make sure your foot is warmed up
Just keep doing it, you'll build good muscle memory. The first time I arched my foot in the ballet class I'm in right now (its my first time in 4 years) my foot cramped up. But as long as you keep doing it you should be good :) btw im getting my pointe shoes next year probably sometime in February or March so I'm psyched!!!!
I like how informative this video is! And the last part of the video is lovely! The lighting and color is beautiful
This (ballet) is SO much deeper than I I ever imagined.
Got here from Chinese foot binding videos....
All that work of construction and preparation, to create that fleeting moment of weightless magic, using something so meticulously crafted soon to be discarded. What a unique art ballet is.
She is so beautiful
Lauren archer is teaching an intensive at my ballet! She's so kind and wonderful!
And her feeT Too
I can't stop watching videos of pointe shoes!!!!!!!
My first pointe shoes were capezio contempora and I was kind of shocked it wasn’t Bloch since everyone else had bloch but now I know that the most popular shoes doesn’t mean it’s the best shoe for you.
Raelyn Rainforth, my first pair were capezio as well. That was 30 yrs ago.
Beverly Reid I love them because their shoes are not only built for one foot type I find! It’s so cool to hear we share the same first shoe 😜
Raelyn Rainforth that just means we're not mainstream and that's a good thing😉 Much success with your career.
The first person to fit me for ballet shoes put me in Russian Grishkos because I'm taller. There's no way my feet could break those shoes in! I ended up going to a much softer brand which didn't last very long but man anything was better than having your feet in concrete shoes!
I love ballet so much❤️❤️
Im in grade 5 ballet.. my teacher announced the girls who are going on pointe and I wasn't expecting to be allowed, but I have to say I was still disappointed when she told me I cant 🙃

Saoirse O'B aww its okay

I just recently started pointe work and its all so interesting
I love this video
Last year I had only been dancing for 5-6 mothns and expected to get pointe shoes and was so dissapointed when I diddn't. But now I've been dancing for 1 year and 3 months and am going on pointe in september. I'm so proud that I was able to improve so quickly. BTW i'm almost 14

Hawa En Pointe nobody in my dance school is allowed on pointe until they are grade 3-4 and they are 11
Hawa En Pointe I'm 12 and have been dancing since is was 3 I have been on pointe for almost a year now and I can pirouette on pointe
thats cool in my ballet school you get pointe shoes when your feet are ready thats why i got them when i was 10
Totally awesome😃
Beautiful

OMG
So ive been looking up stuff on pointe shoes because I will be getting pointe shoes soon😁😁😁
I got fitted for pointe shoes today and my feet are already killing me
She went on pointe when she was nine!!😱 I wish my muscles where slightly more developed because I want to go on pointe SOOO bad. Can’t wait until then.
I don't know how they manage to dance through the pain. I can really imagine it, the unbearable pain in my toes and just want to stop cause it hurts.
Katie on the GO you just need to improve your food strength
I q' not A professional. Far from actually. But in Class I Just don't think About the pain, but About al the corrections I got or What I need to do to do this specific moment, but when I take them off. Then the pain hits

BALLET IS A VERY BEAUTIFUL SIGHT TO SEE
This is very exiting 😂😂😂 I’m trying a ballet class soon and probably will be enrolling!!! That really shows you long it takes to go en pointe. I do not like waiting!
I’m going on point this September and I’m so excited!!!! :) I’m 11 btw
Going en pointe in two months, wish me luck!
I would love to get tot to do point, I do 10 to 15 ballet classes and it’s so fun but I’m not old encode to do point

I’m getting fitted for pointe tomorrow
I go on pointe tomorrow and I'm binge watching
I'm in grade 4 ballet and I just found out that I'll be starting pointe in a few weeks ⭐️ ⭐️
Yeah it's so cool but it is quite painful, it takes a lot of strength in your feet 💕
Tough as nails but dance like angels..... respect.
When I got my first pair of pointe shoes, I twisted my ankle immediately.
Wynter you clearly werent strong enough
her eyes are beautiful
I stubbed my toe once, I still talk about it like it was my own personal Vietnam.
Lily MSP if you’ve only been dancing for two years you definetly arent ready for pointe. I started dancing at age 4 and i got mine at 11

0:29 is a that’s what she said moment
0:28 Sharp inhale. Maybe it's good I never got into pointe.
My dream is to go on pointe but I’m only in grade 3 and I’m 15 so I don’t know if that is ever going to happen
On pointe at age 9.....a child's feet bones are still forming!
I have a little over a year until I can go en pointe.
Apparently dancing on pointe has been going on since 1700. Couldn't they come up with a better version of the show by now?
Actually this is the better way. Pointe dancers used to wear soft shoes a get lifted by wires.
AWSOME
Going on pointe can really hurt your toes so I put bandaids or tape around mine to keep them from blistering, as u can see she is missing a toenail. That can happen a lot to some dancers because you’re putting all your weight on your ankles and toes, it’s really painful
I started pointe class in 5th grade when I was ten
Respected!they r lovely!
I actually have a similar story so far xD I have a signed Pointe shoe from Tulsa Ballet, I do things while wearing it that I shouldnt be doing yet, but... Im not en pointe yet so we'll see xD I just got into Tulsa ballet school xD
Update:Tulsa Ballet is Awesome and I've stopped doing things I shouldn't
I remember before I got pointe shoes I used to wear my aunt’s old pointe shoes which were too small and I never told anyone 😂
I really want point shoes but I am just 10 and one of my big dreams are to get point shoes and dance with them.😔
Oh my word I have the same axact story from Tulsa balet
Trop beaux mois Jan fais aussi
Pointe is hard work, I’ve been through 4 pairs these past three months
That's preatty good. The girls who perform go thru a pair a day.
God damn, ballerinas are a different breed I swear
Where do the toes go? I'm so baffled by how The foot actual is positioned inside he shoe.
Rachel Isawesome omg same
In the front of the shoe is a square box. You are actually standing with your feet inside a small box. And you're literally on the tips of your toes. The shoes are just white enough for your toes to be squished together in a straight line..
I am all ready on point but it is so hard
I'm 14 and don't have pointe shoes 😯 I've been dancing for 10 years
0:28 HER NAIL CAME OFFFF NOW IM SCARED TO DO BALLET
It is 2019. Why not develop something that does not deform the feet?
Regina Semenenko DONT use the year as an exquese,it’s a number not a freaking god
The first time I went on Pointe was on my 7th birthday and it was the most magical thing ever! I'm 13 now and still love it!
Tara N Yes My feet are (were) very strong and I worked very hard!
Tara N 😃😃 So happy to help!
I started pointe late last year, my mom sews my pointes
☺
fatima basaraba
The dancer in the olive green shirt had beautiful eyes
I’m 11 and I don’t have my pointe shoes they got theirs at 9 🙃
don’t worry! It is usually not safe to go en pointe at 10 or 9 idk why she was allowed to go en pointe then :/
Ok I am ten years old and... My teacher said I am old enough to do pointe!!
the girl with a thousand ballet tips:
and I just with some sneakers that I bought with my savings of a year ;.VV
I can't even with the background music.
0:13
Me
So me
I'm also grade four, can't wait till grade five 😁
For the non dancers, even if you have lots of padding in there it still BURNS
0:28 oh honey your nail
Omggg 😢😢😢 0:28
like
Phew. Bunions and missing toenails. Glad I quit ballet at age 6! 😂
It’s not as bad as it sounds and you get used to it
Why are her eyes purple tho
Skye M. either contacts or just pure genetic variation
Well that dream of doing a dancer is gone I ain’t risking my toes
I'm 12 and I went on point at age 9
Lollie Mitt pointe.
Omg where is her nail
parce que la danseuse de ballet il doit reconstruire vos pointes, en plus de les personnaliser ? ne sont- ils pas bien cuits ?
Yes she is missing her big toe nail. Ballerinas feet are not pretty. Most of the times after a long show your toes can turn black from bruising. As a ballerina, and I hope I speak for the rest (flats or points) the pain is nothing because at the end and in the moment it's just to gorgeous to feel and be apart of. 💕
Ballet Dancing is so beautiful and feminine and elegant If I have to Miss A toenail fuck that.
EN pointe
Encontraba maravilloso este arte, pero cuando supe la realidad, FUE HORROROSO, TENEBROSO.🐲🐲🐲🐲🐲🐲🐲🐲🐲🐲🐲🐲
3
Some gnarly toenails...
RIP big toenail.
It's a price paid it's a hefty price but it's why ballet is really the art of the woman.
not painful for me. I do pointe WITHOUT THE SHOES
Squishy :3 If you feel no pain doing it without shoes, then you are either not doing it correctly or you aren't getting over your platform, so don't act like you are good or amazing. You are probably just going on high relevè or demi pointe.
Umm sorry but its literally not possible doing pointe without the shoes..like scientifically impossible because of the angels.
are toy doing overtoe? that is different from being on poimte barefoot
Uff ballerinas have some ugly feet but I guess that’s the price you pay dancing this beautiful dance it’s a masterpiece and I’m here for it😍
Dang she started when she was 9? I started when I was 12 😂
I started when I was 11
I started at 14.
