Selena is so loved in South Texas, that when this scene was filmed, tens of thousands of fans turned out to be extras in the crowd in the movie. Those are her real fans in the movie scene. It’s so heartbreaking.

I was in high school in San Antonio when they filmed the movie. When they announced they wanted extras to fill the Alamodome for this scene, several of my friends decided to go. I, sadly, could not because you had to commit to being there all day and I had to work, but my friends left home at 5 AM and stayed all day. And yes, they said the fans there reacted as if the real Selena was there.
Texas in general loves her 💜
My ex was an extra for the Alamodome scene, and had nothing but good things to say about their experience. I would frequent the South Park mall from work, so that scene hit me like a ton of bricks.
Jennifer did an amazing job.And she must have nerves of steel,because I would have been soooo nervous,knowing I had to perform for not only her real life fans,but her family too.Whew lol!But she did an amazing job.
The best part of the Intro is when she’s walking towards the curtains, as soon as she stops she turns and sees her parents. I don’t know why but that’s spine chilling.
I've always thought that,and I don't know why either.Glad to see its not just me lol.

Exactly..I may be a little optimistic probably, but everytime I see this scene I feel the same..and I like thinking if this was in the movie its because it was a special moment between them that did actually happen but we didn't get to see during the opening in the original concert clip.
2 things:
Because a focus on the older parents makes you think of their mortality. Yet she's the one, ironically, who dies.
It's her biggest performance to date, and it's up to her to carry it. With that, she's walking away from her source of security, her parents.
This was a seriously well directed movie 👍

We are Selena fans and love or hate JLo, the movie turned out great! It continues to reach out to people that didn't grow up with Selena's music. The comparison must stop.
I love this movie and Selena. And I’m a Black dude that knows NOTHING about Tejano music, but you could see that she was such a cool person and very talented. She had that “it” factor. It was only a matter of time before she blew up in the mainstream

The moment when the curtains open up and we see the huge crowd....it's incredible and bittersweet.
If Selena was able to sell out the Astrodome with nearly 67,000 people in attendance, she was set to perform for crowds in the 100,000 and more around the world, especially after the release of her English album. She was set for mega stardom. Such a shame.

I love how just pulls her outfit out of a suitcase and throws it on last minute!! I loved Selena. And Jennifer Lopez did an amazing job portraying how talented and humble this artist was!
what really is so sad is that (February 26, 1995) 33 days later, Selena was taken away from this world. Life is so unpredictable.

In 97 I was 3 years old. We went to see this movie with my parents and older siblings. I can still remember the theater being packed, all seats filled, and the fact that I was confused we were watching a concert. I wish I was at least 2 years older because I would have appreciated seeing this movie in the big screen (I think I fell asleep once or twice). The movie theater we went to closed at some point in the early 2000s then opened back up in the 2010s. It still looks the same last time I went with a friend in high school. I remember which room we watched this movie in. It's crazy how this one movie made a big impression on me because I would watch the VHS tape all the time. I recently got the blu-ray and put it on the big screen tv in the livingroom and I felt a sudden dejavu like I'm back in 97. It was great because I haven't seen the movie in over a decade and seeing it for the first time in widescreen with the extended cut.

To know that the crowd turnout is 100 percent real is amazing. You must have been able to feel the love for her in that building while filming these scenes.

Jennifer Lopez has worked so hard to be the global super star that she is today. She deserved an Oscar for this role. Period.
I get goosebumps every time they shut the lights off and the crowd cheers, ready for a historic show.
At 0:33 it gets me every time, seeing the silhouette of Selena behind the curtain, she was a huge inspiration to me to live life to the fullest and happiest, the first time I watched this movie was in Spanish class and keep in mind this is an 8th grade class, everyone in the class was crying by the end of the movie. It was very emotional SELENA RIP
I remember watching this film with my Mom when I was 5 but it was near the end and I had no idea she died I thought she got sick or something at the end.then I watched half of it again when I was 12 and found out she died and then I watched it again this year the full movie in February and by the end I was in tears I've started to listen to some of her songs and Comor La Flor,Amor Prohibido,Bidi Bidi Bom Bom, and Baila Esta Cumbia are my favorite songs by Selena

Well, Suzette felt upset that she wasn’t in the last concert so asked if her character to be in the scene.
Which was very honorable too, for them to decide that. and ask her of that. Plus Pete was on there too, since he left the band in 1993, and him being there now, is very redeemable.

Still watch this movie I’m bi racial not Mexican or anything but she made me love her music both in Spanish and English. Put one of her songs on and I speak and sing perfect Spanish lol. She was so beautiful talented I really hate what happened to her but her memory, love for life family friends and fans will live on forever. She was so talented and breath taking
Honestly why do they feel the need to do the series? Wasn't the movie enough?
No because the movie skipped the 80’s. She had 6 albums and several awards under her belt by 1988! She struggled and worked hard for what she became. The movie didn’t show any of that. They skipped right to the fun and fluffy parts of her success. Also the majority of the movie was fictionalized and not historically accurate to her real life. What ever your opinions are about The Netflix series’s actors or what ever. You can’t take away the fact that they got everything down much more accurately.

@@aaronbell89 Because she signed contracts. She left it to her manager father to keep on managing her when she isn’t around. She trusted her family to do Whats best for her and they have been. Every entertainers work out lives their physical existence. Selena knew this and she had a saying “The point of life is not to live forever but to create something that will”. She was working towards being a legend tho she was humble about it.
Also wanna point out everything her family has released merchandise wise or the many projects they did off of her name is all stuff Selena was associated with in life. They never branch out to random deals/projects just to make a quick buck.

I agree. For me, the actor doesn't necessarily have to "look" like their character. It's all about them capturing their ESSENCE, and that's what JLo got right and what the series got wrong.

Jennifer Lopez did an amazing job in the movie but at 1st Selena father really wanted a 17yr old young lady that looked a lot like Selena to play the role and he also wanted her to play the role because he wanted to give the young lady that looked like Selena a shot to make it. But then I think it may have been the directors I am not all that sure but Jennifer ended up getting the role and Jennifer knew she had big shoes to fill to play Selena and she nailed it to the tea.
