Selena is so loved in South Texas, that when this scene was filmed, tens of thousands of fans turned out to be extras in the crowd in the movie. Those are her real fans in the movie scene. It’s so heartbreaking.
I was in high school in San Antonio when they filmed the movie. When they announced they wanted extras to fill the Alamodome for this scene, several of my friends decided to go. I, sadly, could not because you had to commit to being there all day and I had to work, but my friends left home at 5 AM and stayed all day. And yes, they said the fans there reacted as if the real Selena was there.
My ex was an extra for the Alamodome scene, and had nothing but good things to say about their experience. I would frequent the South Park mall from work, so that scene hit me like a ton of bricks.
Jennifer did an amazing job.And she must have nerves of steel,because I would have been soooo nervous,knowing I had to perform for not only her real life fans,but her family too.Whew lol!But she did an amazing job.
The best part of the Intro is when she’s walking towards the curtains, as soon as she stops she turns and sees her parents. I don’t know why but that’s spine chilling.
Exactly..I may be a little optimistic probably, but everytime I see this scene I feel the same..and I like thinking if this was in the movie its because it was a special moment between them that did actually happen but we didn't get to see during the opening in the original concert clip.
2 things: Because a focus on the older parents makes you think of their mortality. Yet she's the one, ironically, who dies. It's her biggest performance to date, and it's up to her to carry it. With that, she's walking away from her source of security, her parents. This was a seriously well directed movie 👍
I love this movie and Selena. And I’m a Black dude that knows NOTHING about Tejano music, but you could see that she was such a cool person and very talented. She had that “it” factor. It was only a matter of time before she blew up in the mainstream

In 97 I was 3 years old. We went to see this movie with my parents and older siblings. I can still remember the theater being packed, all seats filled, and the fact that I was confused we were watching a concert. I wish I was at least 2 years older because I would have appreciated seeing this movie in the big screen (I think I fell asleep once or twice). The movie theater we went to closed at some point in the early 2000s then opened back up in the 2010s. It still looks the same last time I went with a friend in high school. I remember which room we watched this movie in. It's crazy how this one movie made a big impression on me because I would watch the VHS tape all the time. I recently got the blu-ray and put it on the big screen tv in the livingroom and I felt a sudden dejavu like I'm back in 97. It was great because I haven't seen the movie in over a decade and seeing it for the first time in widescreen with the extended cut.

At 0:33 it gets me every time, seeing the silhouette of Selena behind the curtain, she was a huge inspiration to me to live life to the fullest and happiest, the first time I watched this movie was in Spanish class and keep in mind this is an 8th grade class, everyone in the class was crying by the end of the movie. They skipped right to the fun and fluffy parts of her success. Also the majority of the movie was fictionalized and not historically accurate to her real life. What ever your opinions are about The Netflix series’s actors or what ever. You can’t take away the fact that they got everything down much more accurately.

I agree. For me, the actor doesn't necessarily have to "look" like their character. It's all about them capturing their ESSENCE, and that's what JLo got right and what the series got wrong.
I don't know what it is but when it comes to Doco Drama movies like this, I get a sense of, I don't know how to word it, foreboding I think at the beginning of movie. Like something that is so great like the start of Selena's concert with so many people excited to see her perform should be great. But the overall atmosphere, the cinematography and the timestamp time stamp of when this is taking place, it's like there's something in the air. A calm before the storm. Most movies like this start close to the end of someone's life story, even the movie Phar Lap had this approach. Then they go back and show everything that lead up to that moment. I always find these movies so emotional, because I know it's got a sad ending. Hope what I said made some sort of sense to people 😅 Also recently discovered this movie and wow, it's amazing!

Jennifer Lopez did an amazing job in the movie but at 1st Selena father really wanted a 17yr old young lady that looked a lot like Selena to play the role and he also wanted her to play the role because he wanted to give the young lady that looked like Selena a shot to make it. But then I think it may have been the directors I am not all that sure but Jennifer ended up getting the role and Jennifer knew she had big shoes to fill to play Selena and she nailed it to the tea.

Idk why for years I thought the girl she went shopping with was Sarah when in fact it’s her cousin Debra (although in real life Sarah went shopping with her).
