I still remember the tremendous shock when they first appeared on TV. It was a show about the birth of a band star. They were costumed cartoon characters, but their music was heavy, reminiscent of Black Sabbath. And the band's name and songs was the title of a classic piece of literature. To use an American analogy, it would be the title of an Edgar Allan Poe book. They had strong accents (imagine an Alabama accent), and they sang at a pitch similar to that of a sutra. Everything I saw and heard was chaotic, and that is why I remember that day so vividly even after 36 years.
TIL David has never read HP Lovecraft and hates theramins.

This brings me back to experimental 70:ies. And everyone liked it back then. This song with Ningen Isu is making me going in the memory lane!

Thanks for the reaction, and as always, your deep analysis. I suspect few people in the audience for that show felt the song was too long, or the intro unnecessary. It is a deep track that resonates more with fans than casual listeners, though. And probably better enjoyed as part of a show or an album listen.

The theremin fits perfectly into this intro. It's spooky and adds to the ambience - it's setting the stage and that word you mentioned, *atmosphere*, for the journey of the song. It's also a very old electronic instrument, maybe HP Lovecraft (inspiration for this song) heard one? He didn't hear an

Some time ago now, I thought about requesting this song but two things prevented me. First, I thought for the length of the song, not being in the audience makes such a difference and I felt it just drags a bit too much. Would you lose interest? Secondly, overall the intro and the long guitar solo at the end made what could have been an interesting progressive rock song, rather boring.
