It was actually quite wholesome to see you NOT being surprised about the performance at all since you knew what to expect musically. What a fantastic band at the time.

You are the only guy who makes me feel guilty above giving you a like before the video begins. But, you ALWAYS deserve it. So I can't change this practice!

    100% on point.
As anyone familiar with Queensryche knows this was a solid performance.
I think what blows the uninitiated away is that with the production quality of Queensryche and the range and power Geoff Tate had suprises them as to their choice of genre.

Surprised u weren’t surprised at his vocals on this track (or shocked at how well he sings). His vocals are outstanding.

I agree, I think performers on stage should LOOK like performers. I don't think the jeans/shirt fits-in-with-roadie era is here much anymore - most of the bands I see live tend to make an effort. It doesn't even have to be much, it just has to be something out of the ordinary to make you glance twice if you passed them on the street
Anyway, love this era of Queensrÿche (although I started with them at Operation: Mindcrime) and all the songs recorded at that Tokyo gig are excellent

I gave Mike credit for interaction and energy. During his solo he took center stage and worked the wings. Even the drummer was standing up and raising arms to the crowd. Lighting set the mood, esp at the beginning. Still a very good score. Cheers!

The high E's seemed impressive and hearing this tune at louder volumes on other channels seemed like a great live performance which can out shine a studio version and vice versa. Need to go here the studio version for energy and vocal ranges.

You haven't missed anything special after Empire, they changed their sound too much and I think it backfired on the band, they were never quite as good since. The album after Empire was called Promised Land, it did contain one really good song on there called Damaged, which is worth checking out.

My guess was an 8.2 , but I understand your explanations. The band was kind of green in '84 for live performances, just developing the "show" aspect. Great review 🤘

Saw them in '84.... they were this good live.
DO NOT call this " hair metal" and put them in the same group as Warrant or Poison...... Queensryche's contemporaries were Priest, Maiden, and Dio. In specific MUSICALLY. Hair bands were " rock " oriented.... their big influence was Aerosmith , Sweet....70s rock.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nice review. However, I feel that you missed one important thing that should have been taken into account for your rating. Although it shouldn't be a big factor in the score but the song placement within the set was missed. This performance was after about 2 hours of playing. Granted, it should not be a big factor but the crowd enthusiasm may have lost a little energy by that point as well as the unique things the band was doing on stage may have not been as wow-factored as it was earlier on in the concert, as examples. Anyhow, nice review!

So just to be clear, so there's no misunderstanding here...you're making the claim that I'm pretending to have never seen this performance. Do I have that correct?
If that is the case, then you are essentially calling me a liar. So I'm assuming you have evidence to back up this claim, concrete irrefutable evidence that can support this accusation.
If not, then you are basing this accusation purely on speculation. Which of course, is slander and defamation of character. I pride myself on my honesty and my integrity, and the fact that you have attacked both without a shred of concrete evidence to back up your claim is offensive and insulting.

@@THEDavidHeretic you must have many trolls and haters on your UA-cam channel to not be able to tell when someone is making a joke. And I put an emoji to make it clear in case.

@@THEDavidHeretic That was clearly a joke David. I was expecting you to reply with something funny about the coincidence. In fact, I saw this comment earlier today and made note to come back to this comment and see what funny comment you had and the circumstance that allowed for this coincidence. Maybe you're having a bad day which I understand, and perhaps you do get a lot of hate that I just don't see maybe because you delete them.

@@2abug You would be amazed. 7 people on this video alone have accused me of pretending, and called me a liar.
It didn't come off as a joke to me, but I guess that's on me for misunderstanding. My apologies.

This performance has always smelled a bit like it was sweetened in post.
Not because they weren’t capable of a fantastic performance, but because live recordings just sucked the early 80s.
Either way, this is a great live performance.

  • @danw4490

Speaking as a Queensryche fan, I think this performance is boring. I'm not a big fan of Geoff to begin with. The song is good and it was sung well but I wouldn't care to be there live.

Someone dubbed the studio over this live version. Their is an actual live version of this that is really good - the slight imperfections actually make it better. Its totally unnecessary to fake this as being live.

I have heard the studio version a hundred times. Absolutely not dubbed. For example the high note he hits in the last verse sounds different and better, imho, in the live version.
You obviously have no idea what you are talking about.

This is not the studio version. But they did ‘clean’ it up alot in post. Obvious when u watch closely… his lips and/or his exertion doesn’t always match. Sorry fans… (ps - Im a big QR fan)
