  • We are living in our RV full-time while building our home in Alaska. To get it move-in ready, we renovated the inside for a more modern appearance and functionality. The outside also needed some TLC so we painted and replaced the roof and made some mechanical repairs. Follow along for the full tour and flashbacks to the renovations.
    Thank you for following along on our journey!

    Wow. You two are incredible. Awesome job renovating the RV. At the very least, if you ever decide to sell it, it will surely fetch a good price. I can only imagine the house you will build if this is just your renovated RV!

      Thanks! It was a low-budget renovation but it's cozy and feels like a home. It took a lot of man-hours. We both worked nonstop in between our work shifts cleaning, painting, and dismantling inside this thing for months. Just worked on it until we were happy with the outcome. The resale was something we thought about as well. We have a pretty minimal investment into it other than time, but I am certain we can recoup the money invested and maybe some profit if needed. Our cabin will be limited by our budget and time but over the years we will certainly make it a cozy home. Can't wait to see the outcome. Thanks for your support👍👍

      Glad you enjoyed the video! We are already back to work on the cabin, we will have various update videos on it as we progress. We always have a plan, and always seek out knowledge for whatever new projects we are tackling. Making mistakes is expensive so we work to do things properly the first time. The biggest limitation on our ambitions is time and money, haha, if we had more of that we could make some incredible videos to share with everyone.

    So impressed with what you accomplished with your RV renovation, and in Alaska, adaptation. Very innovative solutions to some pretty gnarly challenges. But you know what, I wouldn't have expected anything less from your awesome team. You addressed my suggestion after your previous video. I kept waiting to hear something about skirting? I genuinely look forward to your videos. I would never compare my meager skills to those of Chris, but I can say we have similar though process and analytical approaches. I look forward to your next vide4o, and really looking forward to your cabin build.

    • @northtoalaska2022
      @northtoalaska2022  Місяць тому

      Thanks Chuck 🙂 , we did give skirting a thought, the basement is spray foam insulated on the underside near the ground and it has rigid foam board in the floor cavity. The manufacturer intended for the basement to be heated to keep water tanks from freezing but we blocked off the heat vents to that lower area because it most certainly would not stay warm enough in the temperatures here. I'm sure the engineers building them never thought anyone would attempt to live in and use the RV in a sub-Arctic region winter haha... with the air suspension lowered all the way the body of the RV is only a few inches from the ground, that area was quickly filled with snow by November blocking off air flow underneath for the majority of winter. Glad you are enjoying our videos! We have a variety of projects to work on between now and next winter, I'm hopeful we can capture the moments and have great videos to share! Thanks again Chuck.

    Excellent! Very informational for anyone going to Alaska or camping out in the wilderness. You have a talent that I believe would bring in a good income for both of you. I love the changes you made in the kitchen. One of my biggest gripes is the kitchen area of our RV. Cabinets are too high, no counter space, and wasteful storage areas. I could live in 300sq.ft. for sure.

    You might wanna consider building your own wind mill as a backup power source Im sure there are designs on line as Im sure its quite windy up there at times just a thought as "
    I know winter is a dark season. And look up a rocket mass heater n do some research n you will find it is the most efficient wood burning stove but you have to build it yourself with pretty simple materials the mass unit is the most important because it stores and holds the heat for like a half a day so you burn less wood. A little more effort to build initially but less of a backbreaker once its working!. Id say its pretty ingenius once you understand them.

      Hey, thank you! I think the key is proper ventilation and dry-vented heaters otherwise moisture buildup in a northern climate becomes an issue quickly inside a structure with little vapor barrier. Definitely not a good choice for long-term usage. Thanks for watching 🙂

    Another great video, everything looks well thought out. 70 deg for a high would not be good everyday

    If you insulate storage under the bus the floor would be warmer and save heat

    Great job on the remodel and it cost some pocket change lol but what I'm concerned about is the 8.3 L cumins diesel engine doesn't that have to be run every once in awhile to keep it from going bad or am i crazy? Larry

      Thank you! We exercise the engine and transmission at certain times. We also have plans to move it to a new location on the property this summer.
