Excellent videos, all of them you have. Great, simple format with clear and articulate explanations. Out of curiosity, what're the dimensions of your home gym? I am going to build one and, after seeing your gym, I might go a bit bigger than I had planned.
I thank you for watching. The area I use for a home gym in these videos was an old chicken coup ( my wife bought and old farm) I would say it’s maybe 20 to 25 feet wide and 70 feet long. It’s a great spot to train ... ummm except in the winter 🙂🙂
Good video! Only thing is which knuckles make contact? Some people say land with the first two large knuckles. Others contend you should land upon the last three lower knuckles. Which procedure is more technically correct?
That is a great question that I'm sure many other people have and so thanks for asking. Many people will have different opinions but i always like to side with biomechanincs. By landing predominantly with the first two knuckles, you will have most of the impact over your radius (a bone in your forearm) which will lessen the likelihood of injury to your wrist. At the end of the day you will need to do what feels most comfortable to you but you will find that most people tend to use the first two knuckles to make the impact. Thanks for commenting : )
@@fightyourwayfit if i might add, basic physics - when hitting with the first two knuckles, the surface which does the hitting is smaller than when you hit with three so pressure(penetration power sort of, English is not my native language) is higher therefore stronger punch
been using youtube as coach for the pass 4year in boxing training...home boxing workout^^ i found ur channel yesterday and i think you have all the detail i need about boxing workout..sub done^^
@Fight your way Fit I have a question about the lower body. Are you pushing your right hip forward from your foot or are you separately pulling your front hip forward? Could you describe that to me, something I seem to have trouble with. When I think of trying to push off I sit a lot of weight on the rear foot making it hard to pivot and then jump over my lead foot, when I artificially roll the hip forward it can carry my right hand off target towards my left side. Also when throwing the cross should you start from the feet, lead shoulder first dragging everything else or synchronize these?
Great questions. The best way to think of it is to think of yourself as throwing a baseball or a small rock. Transfer your weight to your rear foot. You will naturally push off of the floor with that rear foot to start driving your body weight forward. You will keep that momentum going by rotating your legs hip core as you extend your arm. A picture is worth 1000 words and I’m sorry that it’s so tough to articulate through writing. Check out the video how to increase your punching power on this Chanel. It will do a better job of explaining it. I thank you for commenting. 😎😎😎
@@fightyourwayfit I don't think that analogy perfectly helps me, I think if you described what you were doing or feeling step by step that would help more. When I peg a ball or a rock what I'm doing looks and feels nothing like what you did throwing that cross. As you said I take all the weight to the rear foot and then I take a big step onto my lead leg lunging down onto it as I whip my right arm around as long a path as I can to get maximum speed, my weight and my arm come all the way around and then down towards my lead leg. That's how I might have punched as a child but leaves me completely off balance (throwing myself down onto my front leg), is extremely difficult to target with and very different from what you did. You remained upright, balanced and kind of came forward. When I go to chuck a ball I whip around and down probably as much or more than even I go forward even with the big step. Looking at how some baseball players throw (I'm Aussie, never played baseball.) it's even more exaggerated and they play with their balance even more. If I'm meant to throw the cross like this maybe you could explain how to keep balanced while doing it.
Hello! I discovered your channel a few days ago and I love your videos, you explain very well and at a perfect pace, thank you. I'd like to ask, are the videos in this playlist ("A step by step guide to Boxing for Beginners") meant to be followed in the order of the playlist? Thank you!
I thank you for taking the time to watch the videos. The answer to your question is no ... the videos are not in any specific order. I would recommend to watch the boxing stance and then the basic punches first ... after that any of the other videos will make much more sense 😎😎
this is an amazing video and i love your work and what you do for us, but you are dropping your hand very slightly just before your cross. not noticeable when jab comes first, but just thought you may want to know.
Your shoulder and elbow will only allow a certain range of motion. It's very comfortable for the hand to start and reach full extension at shoulder height. When the hand is at eye height though normally the knuckles face up in the air. It's also awkward because the elbow is somewhat under or sometimes out in front of your hand. If you attempt to push the hand straight out in a single motion you can easily get something more like a hammering, whipping or chopping motion if you keep your elbow down unless you lean down yourself to align the elbow behind the hand and the knuckles down. When he drops his hand before throwing he's putting his knuckles out and aligning his elbow behind his knuckles to push them straight out. Maybe that's why guys drop their hand first. It is possible to awkwardly adjust as your hand comes out from the face to keep it going along a straighter path. basically you'll do an awkward chopping motion for the first half of the way and then a separate pushing motion once the elbow is aligned or lean down during the first part of the motion to artificially make that alignment. Our arms are attached to our shoulders, unfortunately not to our faces.
@Fight your way Fit Please help. when I throw my cross, my fist lands slightly diagonally from my shoulder (e.g. instead of directly in front of my left shoulder because I’m left-handed, it lands in front of my right shoulder, diagonally across my body). How can I correct this? Please advise.
Thank you for taking the time to watch. It could be that your chest muscles and front shoulder muscles are a little stronger than those of your back and rear shoulder. You could always try some strengthening exercises for those muscles to see if that will help the alignment of your cross. 😎😎😎👌
No, it is not the sane. The jag is thrown by the lead arm only. It is usually a quicker punch that doesn’t involve to much weight transfer. The cross is thrown with the rear hand. It is further from the target and involves much more weight distribution thus it is a much more powerful punch than a jab. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. 😎😎😎😎
Thanks for commenting; They are short boxing shoes; www.everlast.com/boxing/footwear?SID=0r7lmtc7hvd30dbsj1t9mveb75 They are great because they a very light weight, yet they give you enough grip off of the floor to really be able to rotate your core and accelerate your punches.
That all depends on the individual..but usually, you should have at least 15 amateur fights with a winning record and that could be accomplished within one year.
Depending on athleticism, it takes two to three years of serious training with a coach to become proficient at the fundamentals of boxing. To locate a gym, go to USABoxing: webpoint.usaboxing.org/ ,or to the page on Facebook.
@@fightyourwayfit Thanks man, this video series are really saving my life. I've recently joined a gym, but there are too many people training for just one coach in a way that i've had my second class on tuesday but did not get proper instruction on anything... They expect me to do a jab-cross combo, but nobody showed me how to do the basic stance, how to do a jab or a cross. The coach just passes by, says something like "your shoulder is low", and that's it. Anyway, keep up the good work!

The concepts that you teach are excellent but are they cool for kickboxing too?
Absolutely, they are great for any martial art. You can think of boxing as the martial art of punching : )
just be mindful of getting a low kick to the leg as you transfer all of your weight to your front foot as you throw a cross
