Such beautiful, dark and existential art. I wasn't familiar with the theme of St.Anthony despite having seen some of those but it got me very intrigued. Great for hallow's eve, and that being said, it's a good night for some hedonism and practice magick, take on the form of devils, drink wine and sin. 🤘💀🤘
From artists, I sometimes get a sense that sexuality in general and the female form in particular are a temptation because of the way men's imaginative preoccupation with sexual fantasy can be a barrier to other themes of focused creativity. There's also its usefulness as a tool for propaganda and desire production, which is I think part of what you're pointing to with the modernity of Dali's rendition. This interpretation doesn't necessarily suggest the artists didn't harbor sexist and sex negative beliefs and values, or that the paintings themselves didn't reinforce them, but for me it can in some cases salvage this use of the image if not wholly salvating it. As Murakami puts it when his mind confronts him with something like Lolita's dust jacket: "Hot all right" I echo. Here we go again, I think--again. All day long it's going to be females striking up conversations with me, is it?"

history is showing us that very little has changed in the consciousness of man and the need for well developed institutions to protect us from ourselves. The problem is finding "honest man" to guide these institutions .Will it ever happen?
do men have the total control over the body and soul and decision? or we are just mere animals sheppard by our desires to depotcharies and atrocities? where is the line that separate between the self the desires? do I realy want to eat this hotdog because I want to? or because my desires are takenover me? what about mustard ,do I really need it? so maeny questions..
Are there many religious traditions prior to the existence of reliable birth control and antibiotics which didn't get people to repress their sexual desires? Perhaps it's best not suffuse your critiques with so much presentism.
It tells you all you need to know about the misogyny and sex obsessions of religion when you see that in many of these paintings the only allowable way to depict naked women is to show them being flung into hell.
I hope we can face all our demons with the calmness of St Anthony
