Love these vids about the passion and psychology behind art. We all are doing our own journey at different levels of knowledge and skills as well as different genres of art. But we have this in common. Our thoughts and insecurities behind the scenes. The passions and fears behind each art piece. Its nice to know that no matter where you are on your private art journey we all share this in common. Thank you for articulating this part of the puzzle so well.

Excellent advice Abbey - I certainly often foolishly strive for perfection, only to soon realize I can't ever achieve it. "Deliberate Practice" sounds like something I should definitely embrace...

As a doctor, oh boy can I can relate.
We graduate school and residency with knowledge that is relevant at the time, but 25 years on, it becomes fearful to find out (slowly but surely) that your old habits are no longer pertinent. They've been replaced by more specific procedures and techniques that take time to learn and FEAR OF FAILURE is a huge part of it because, unlike new graduates, you haven't had the benefit to train as extensively with these things.
So, deliberate practice is what every doctor knows all too well.
See? Art IMITATES life. :-)
People always laugh when I bring up that there are similarities with doctors and artists! Technology changes and you have to be on top of it, or you'll end up below it 😂

You can also add 'constructive practice'. Where you mix things you know well with new stuff, never intending to let it see the light of day, with the only goal being to learn something new. (kinda gets you in a cycle of always learning and never finishing)

Absolutely! And not feeling the need to post is especially hard now a days due to the constant pressure to post content and please the different algorithms. It’s hard deciding “this is just for practice no one’s going to see it”

I've been a photoshop artist for about 15yrs now and I wish I actually had an art career to worry about loosing! This is great advice for sure, but I'm hoping that 2024 might be the year I can finally take this a bit more seriously and get something going for myself.... now where to start????
