No, it was the scandal. She was supposed to debut as a soloist in JYPE. Tell me, how many successful female soloists did JYPE have who weren’t part of a girl group? Maybe Joo and Baek Ayeon? Gina wasn’t going to debut in girl groups sadly due to her age, she was 2 years older than Sunye. Furthermore, the whole reason she came back to Korea was because of the man who left JYPE to for Cube. Also, she was a successful soloist her whole time in Cube. Probably more than she would have as a JYPE soloist. Using Jihyo is a silly example. Most people wouldn’t train for 10 years, the rest of TWICE didn’t. Gina is 10 years older, and when she debuted she was almost 24 which in KPOP, especially in 2010, is already a bit older to debut. Gina made mistakes taking money from her friend and also meeting the guy, but to claim the scandal isn’t what ruined her career is a bit silly.
