    At about 7:30 I say the resistance is about a half-ohm. I meant to say half-meg. Sorry.

    You can never have enough power strips. Those look pretty good and at a good price too!

    I believe that MOV has giving you that lower resistance at a higher than 200V... If that was the case it seams legit!

    Clamping voltage of 800V is pretty useless; most electronics would fry before 800V. So think of this surge protected power strip as a plain power strip with no protection. The voltage drop test needs to be done with a high load like a hair dryer, and if you do, measure the voltage at the load side because the biggest resistance is between the power strip and the load's plug's prongs.

  • @szevlin
    @szevlin 3 роки тому

    i dont understand the voltage drop test? sorry im new to electronics but why did you measure the voltage drop when there was no current flowing?

    I saw a lot of reviews on amazon on these strips catching fire should I be worried?

      Nah they're just idiots overloading them by plugging in heaters and stuff
      Don't worry you're good if you dont do that shit.

    LEARNELECTRONICS, most surge protectors are rated by the Joules, can you explain what the joules rating on surge protectors does or means? because i think it rating how much LOAD you can apply to the surge protector but how do you know your LOADS joules rating?

    Thank you. Thank you so much for spending your money and also your time in making the video. I will purchase it. I'm really in a tight budget because I broke the bank by buying a 55" TV. I am happy that I ran into this video. Cheers.

    800v suppression voltage is too high btw. 330v is suggested for sensitive electronic equipment like stereo systems, PCs etc.

    Do not in stall if there is less then 10 meters of wire between outlet it plugged in and panel know i think that is 40 feet and im pretty sure most apartments dont have that big of a foot print. Im a electrician and i have never heard that has anyone else please a comment thanks paul great review.

      I think The distance might be due to what category of protection it is designed for. For instance, if it was connected on your panel it would have to be classified as an arrestor versus a surge protector. I think the line impedance offers some protection to the MOV’s during a transient event.
      It is great that the MOVs do not conduct during the 250 V test. I case of a loss of neutral event when you get 240 Vac across the MOV - they go up in flames. So, the fact they do not conduct at 250 V is a great thing; however, 240Vac peak voltage is closer to 340 Vac. Too bad there’s not a setting for 340 V. I imagine that the MOVs start conducting at around 400 Vdc. At the tested peak surge current, the voltage drop across the MOV is 800 V as specified.

    Can you make a video lesson on using the Insulation tester to test what other circuits, more examples of using the insulation tester

  • @MalagasOnFire
    @MalagasOnFire 6 років тому +1

    The Varistor has kick in on insulation test. :P The cable plug seems thick for 1.5mm^2 which is very generous since the usual is 0.75mm² . Does they have EU version?

    • @learnelectronics
      @learnelectronics  6 років тому

      I don't know. Go on Amazon EU seach for power strip and see what comes up as Amazon's Choice. I can't tell here.

    Thanks Paul. It seems to me that you have the probes on your insulation tester plugged in wrong. The negative should be in "com", shouldn't it?

    • @learnelectronics
      @learnelectronics  6 років тому

      No, the com is for AC testing. For DC they go in L and E (live and Earth)

    • @robertcalkjr.8325
      @robertcalkjr.8325 6 років тому

      Hmm. On mine they are used for AC and insulation test; but where yours says "com", mine says "earth", and the third socket is called "guard".

    Was that not 0.6 Meg ohm not 0.5 ohm? so it would be 600,000 ohms would it not (0.6 ohms would make a mess across 120volt)

    Paul you should do a continuity test between neutral and ground with that bad soldering job, ground and neutral may be as one and would be bad that may have gave you a bad meager test let me know what you come up with thanks .

    • @learnelectronics
      @learnelectronics  6 років тому

      The soldering isn't all that bad, just a great deal of solder. There are no bridges. The MOVs are between L-N L-G and N-G. They are dropping the resistance when the voltage is high. I expected that at 1KV but not at 500V.

    You REALLY NEED to get into arduino and using it for automation of home, I'm from the ohio valley too and even little old me is getting into it, every body is into arduino and you should be too, you know more about electronics than I do. You can start with controlling a light switch against TIME, MOVEMENT, TEMP, SOUND, PRESSURE, OTHER INPUT SWITCHES. .. and any combination of them and more. .
