No way to pick just one! Fearless, Fifteen, The Way I Loved You, Forever & Always - and that doesn't even include vault songs

I would love if you broke down Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve from Midnights 3am edition, if only to validate that I think it’s one of the best songs Taylor’s ever written 😁 so much imagery to unpack there
It is a _very_ heavy song though

Oh yeah I adore the writing of that one. There are more and more layers than most people realize in that one to all the writing in it.

I think the last line closes out this song perfectly - Juliet is reflecting back on their lives together, and remembering that they were both young when they first met. The implication is that they have now had a long life together and are looking back over the years, as opposed to the beginning of the song, when we don’t know that this is a song about a Romeo and Juliet, who have survived the story. :-)
(This could be influenced by the fact that I’m currently teaching Othello, which is arguably even sadder….)

That’s true! I like that interpretation because the only big difference between the two stories is that the don’t die in Taylor’s version lol 😆 so they do get to live out their love story 🥲. Thanks for adding this!

i just wanted to give a fun fact: Taylor wrote this song after a fight with her parents. they didn't that the guy she wanted to date was good for her and she stormed off, locked herself in her room with her guitar and came out an hour later with the full song written- both the lyrics and music :)
thank you for these videos, they are fun to watch and i always feel like i'm learning something

@@taeyongslegs3214 no actually, it was an hour! Andrea Swift (Taylor’s mom) when presenting the ACM milestone award said:
“Like the time she was 17 years old and her dad and i strongly disapproved of a certain young man, and rightfully so.
But she was mad, she was real mad. And she went to her room and she closed the door, and she came out about an hour later with a song called ‘Love Story’”

This was a fun video! Please do a "tortured poets" series ⠀ I would love to learn more about Plath, Hemingway, and Poe.....I need a refresher about some of the greats before the Swift album drops in April. 😅

Taylor's mom said in a speech once that Taylor's mom and dad didn't like a guy she was dating and they said she couldn't see him so she locked herself in her room and wrote this song....at like 16!!

I LOVE the way you analyze lyrics. Can’t wait for you to react to some Phoebe Bridgers or Mitski songs, it would be very interesting to hear your thoughts!

When i first heard this song, the line “don’t be afraid, we’ll make it out of this mess” was really heartbreaking, bc i obviously knew that the story ends with both of them dying, not really making it out of this mess…
So then when she changed the ending for a happily ever after, i was floored. It’s such a whimsical simple romantic song, but idk why it just really hit me with that twist on the story.
