There was no lawsuit - Olivia gave the credits to Taylor to prevent that because people were getting super annoying about it saying she had copied that part of the song. Jack Antonoff even said he didn't know about it at all and was surprised when they told him. Then people started saying they had sued Olivia, just to hate on Taylor.

Girl, the lawsuit is real that's why Olivia and Taylor are not talking and never interact with each other again. Olivia stops talking how she was a fan of Ms Tay when she's a little girl and mentioning other singers that inspired her now as an artist.

Something i think is really cool is how the first chorus reveals the meaning of the verse before it. Originally, the first verse seems to be about what olivia and her partner are doing. There arent any pronouns other than "you", so its not clear who olivia is referring to. When the first chorus hits, it rejects that original assumption and shows that the verse is actually about what her ex and his new girlfriend do. Its like olivia is looking at her ex and his new relationship knowing that it's all reused. Amazing.

Obsessed is another great example of her songwriting, and a lot of fun to unpack.

If you watch The Breakdown of the song that Rolling Stone did with Olivia Rodrigo and Dan Nigro you'll find out all sorts of cool stuff. For example, Olivia wrote this song with her producer Dan Nigro and they both have never even seen Glee. Also the fact that both the idea for Malibu and the Billy Joel lyric came from Dan Nigro. Which means that some of the things that seem very specific about the relationship Olivia is talking about never even happened in the relationship. Ironic right?
