have a cat that started with drooling and then cries about 1-2 times a day. To seizure activity full blown. Started giving meds every 8 hours as his activity has been every 3hrs. Almost 5 days and it seems the full blown activity is being back to the drooling and crying. Hardly see him drink and eat fry food. Idk if he’s getting better as meds seem to slowly being it from full blown, but not eat or drink as much is disappointing. Was hoping to get positive vibes and not need to put down. It’s sad as he’s part of the family.

Your cat probably needs to be hospitalized for nutritional support and fluids. Blood work is needed to further evaluate its condition.

@@veterinarychannel4u we took him the third day it happened as we saw his activity. Everything came back normal and healthy. Since meds, the past 2 days they have been getting further apart. Went from 2 hrs to 7 hrs and hopefully continue the trend. If not we will be back to get another checkup. His seizure activity back to the drooling and slight panics. Just add pee. No more full blown activity. Going to get an mri for 4K to hear there is nothing to do, I don’t think this is a financial decision to do sadly. Praying he will get better and less activity 🙏

@@jimcole2648 ant seizure medications usually need to accumulate in the body to be effective. Epilepsy can be the reason for seizures, but I would recommend to check for toxoplasmosis, FIV and Leukemia before doing the MRI.

@@veterinarychannel4u i appreciate the feedback. Sadly yesterday he had many small seizures they were small. 5 small ones and the last one before the family went to sleep was a little different. More aggressive. He bit me. Last night/This morning he had one downstairs and managed to still have activity coming upstairs. He was growing and heavily breathing walking around and in circles. Reminded me of videos of animals with rabies. Our cats never go out. We had to isolate him from other cats and family to not injure anyone. He never came out of his seizure activity and passed. We are all sad and mostly my daughters. He was extremely affectionate and loving to everyone. Not a mean bone in his body. 😢 He is in a better place now
      Thank you.

Witnessing your pet having a seizure for the first time can be extremely alarming and distressing. Seizures in pets can be caused by various underlying issues, ranging from epilepsy to metabolic disorders, toxins, or even brain tumors. The severity and implications can vary significantly depending on the cause, the duration of the seizure, and the overall health of your pet.
      Here's what you should do:
      1. **Stay Calm**: Try to remain calm. Your pet will be confused and possibly frightened during and after the seizure.
      2. **Ensure Safety**: Make sure your pet is in a safe location where they cannot hurt themselves during the seizure. Move them away from stairs, sharp objects, and water. Do not try to hold them down or put anything in their mouth.
      3. **Observe and Record**: Take note of how long the seizure lasts and the specific symptoms you observe (e.g., convulsions, salivating, loss of consciousness). This information will be valuable for your veterinarian.
      4. **Post-Seizure Care**: After the seizure, your pet may be disoriented, tired, or even temporarily blind. Provide a quiet, comfortable space for them to recover.
      5. **Seek Veterinary Care**: It's crucial to consult with a veterinarian as soon as possible after the seizure, even if your pet seems to recover fully. The veterinarian will likely recommend a thorough examination to determine the cause of the seizure and the best course of action. This might include blood work, neurological exams, and possibly imaging studies like an MRI or CT scan.
      6. **Follow-Up Care**: Depending on the cause of the seizure, your pet may need ongoing treatment or medication to manage the condition. It's important to follow your veterinarian's advice closely and monitor your pet for any future seizures or changes in behavior or health.
Seizures can be dangerous depending on their frequency, duration, and underlying cause. In some cases, seizures can be managed with medication and lifestyle adjustments, allowing pets to live relatively normal lives. However, some conditions causing seizures may require more intensive treatment or may have a more guarded prognosis.
Remember, the first seizure is often the most alarming, but with proper veterinary care and management, many pets can continue to have a good quality of life. Immediate veterinary consultation is key to addressing the issue and ensuring the best possible outcome for your pet.
