    1. We actually have kitchen table. However, when we have guests, we often have meal on the floor because there's not enough seats for everyone, and space to place dishes (Vietnamese serve their guests with more food than daily meal).
    2. I don't judge the old one, but i think queueing is more common in young generation who acquired queueing culture from other countries.
    3. When someone said you're fat(in vietnamese), you can understand differently. If you're really fat, they think you should reduce (i know it's hurt, but they don't really mean to hurt you). If you were so slim, and just have gotten fat a little bit recently, they think you get healthier. That's considered to be a compliment

After living in Vietnam for 6 yrs I went back to the states for my daughters wedding, I stayed at my sisters house. Since I had lots of free time I went to Home Depot and bought a hand held water handle and installed it at my sisters toilet, at the time she thought that was weird. But after I left she had her son install them in her other 2 bathrooms. :)

Hello Phuc. You are so nice for giving constructive criticism. As a Vietnamese-American who left Vietnam for 40 years ago, I can see we have so many inappropriate behaviors compare to many people around the world. I am pretty sure you noticed them but do not point them out. Since many people watch your works, it would be nice if you can point some out as constructive criticism so people can be aware and hopefully change.
I recently came across your channel. I subscribed after watching the first clip, like every clips I watched and let ads run to help you even some of them seem to be forever.

Your videos are amazing! Your last one about the honesty is my favorite. Living in Japan and being from the states, 2 countries where you can't be honest, but sugarcoat everything, it only says to the person you're talking to that they, nor yourself, are mature enough to see the world as it is, but slightly alter your words to make them feel better about a bad situation, whoch hurts them more in the long run. When I was bigger, and I wanted to lose weight, but I didn't but action behind my words, my friends called me a fat f*ck, not because I was fat, but because they knew I had a goal but was BSing myself out of it. You are too funny! Spot on about a lot of the differences. I think you need to do version 2, where the Vietnamese pick their noses 👃 in public. Men, have long nails on the little Pinket finger. And don’t forget about eating & spitting the food on the floor in the restaurant! Ha 😜😝😛ha ha ha. I still have my Vietnamese family back home call me fat. I hate it, but to them it’s honest & like they are teasing you, not meant to hurt you or feelings. Different kind of mind sets. Still, being more Western doesn’t sit right with me, but I only take it from my family. When you learn how to use that hose thing in the toilet to clean yourself after number 2’s please fill us in. How the hell do you not get wet, unless you might as well have a shower? 💓💖💗🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷. Please do some more funny comparison’s. Do you miss Chris and Max?

My family still eats at the table for 6, and only when there are too many people, like during holidays, (usually about 20-30 people), the mats are used. Yes, you are in an Asian country where it is very important to gather relatives on special occasions. And because Vietnam has a lot of young people, families often have a lot of children, so sitting on the ground will have many benefits, such as you will not have to worry too much about the children falling. Sitting on the ground will also feel more connected with family members.

When i was walking around the china town part of Santiago i found a indonesian shop that sell a toilet water hose and a adapter for the toilet pipe they use in chile. I brought it and install at my apartment and for the rest of the 4 years i was living there i didn't have no sore backside. Still buy Toilet paper since to vietnamese, it just cheap napkin anyway.

    1. Usually we eat dinner at the floor due to the insufficient chair and table, now with an ever growing country, we now have enough seats for everyone to enjoy their meal which is great.
    2. Chopsticks overall are just like spoon, it is convenient and more usable than fork in my opinion, it is ironic how i always wanted to use a fork as a child now i am just preferring Chopsticks over all silverware.
    3. Oh i relate to this one a lot, whenever i uses the bathroom, i always look for a spare toilet roll just incase the current one expired, we used to NOT use it, but after time, we realized the necessity of toilet paper and add it to our lives.
    4. Personally and surprisingly, i rarely ever witness a line skipper, most people in my region don't want to be a total jack ass and we are really ambiguous when thought of committing any faulty act.
    5. Hell yeah, you're fat, his fat, who the hell cares. That's just another visual fact about you, not another failure you show. Anyways, yeah it really do be like that, people in general in Vietnamese are Absolutely cold blooded when it comes to Telling facts to anyone.

The way you compare differences is so hilarious and witty :). About queuing culture, it's better now especially with the young generation although lots of things still need to be improved. If those things happen, just simply talk to that guy "pls queue in line, don't you see others queuing?" in a serious manner though you may receive bullet eyes :D, just ignore it.

Brutal honesty is what my wife and I like about Vietnam and SE Asia in general. Not everything is racist, people, sometimes it's just plain true. I am a very tall hairy Australian. A lady walked up to me in Cambodia and grabbed my arm hair and then called her family to come see. I just laughed as I know they can't grow hair. Imagine if that happened in our snowflake Western world. It would be labelled as racist and rude. I was treated like a god with my thick long curled up mustache, and many Vietnamese wanted photos taken with me. My wife got into a altercation with a Vietnamese man trying to push himself, his wife and kids in front of us in a line. She also would stop Chinese tourists pushing in front of her. Forget culture, no way can you ever push in line, that's crossing the line too much.

When I was a kid in VN. A family from Australia came and shopped at my parents' store. I remembered that I stood there and starred at their beautiful colored eyes. It was just honest and innocent behavior. As people are getting more touchy, they lose that child like carefree and innocent. I laughed at the hairy story....thanks for sharing!

    • @anhhoang6038

I guess its because we need more space. Unlike in America where meals usually on the table with not so many people. Even parties in America nowadays tend to go self serving or buffet kind of way. In Vietnam, our family parties tends to have many members and sometimes friends attend, especially death day anniversary, Tet holiday or a family gathreing. We also put every single dish with utensils and beverage out so we need lots of space and a table or two wouldn't be enough. Besides, we enjoy eating on the floor as its cozyness since all will have a chance to speak, to eat the same thing including kids.

    1. Cut in line is my biggest pet peeve. The older Vietnamese people still do that here in the U.S. I tell them the line is way in the back. I don’t care if they’re elders. I have places to go too.
    2. Americans are too overly sensitive these days. If you say something too conservative and mildly offensive or not align with popular opinions, woke people on social media will find you. You’ll be canceled. I abhor cancel culture.

Like someone here has pointed out, the kitchen table is rather personal to the family. Also because the kitchen itself is relatively small. The living room, however, is where most activities occur and where the guests come, so it's like the face of the family and hence usually the largest, most well decorated room in da house.
When the relatives, friends or colleagues come by for a treat, we often choose the living room, sit down and eat. It's very cozy that way.
For the queueing, that's basically a local "cuisine". The people haven't really progressed through the industrial age, so it's "everyone for himself" kinda sorta situation. That said, nowadays kids learn new stuff fast. They could get violent with those who jump the queue. That's a good sign.

As an overseas Vietnamese, re-learning my native language, I appreciate the videos and the channel! Very entertaining, informative, and educational.
As for the point regarding the brutal honesty, I think this lacks significant nuance. It is unfair to compare how Vietnamese may be brutally honest about one's physical appearance than than how safe spaces operate, where the latter is intended for marginalized students to be able congregate and express themselves without being further marginalized.
I think that the points can be both educational and informative, however, when sweeping generalizations are made, this is where I would suggest that context and nuance is absolutely necessary.

Great observations! Except for the toilet one, which I assume is an exaggeration to make it a funny point. Vietnamese people do use toilet paper, in addition to the bidet (I’m pretty sure the invention of the bidet came after toilet paper in Vietnam!) so don’t worry about having to bring your own tp 🧻 to Vietnam if you’re planning a visit 😅
