It's a shame that we dont have gospel singers like this anymore. Most people don't have the respect for gospel like johnny cash anymore.

He said in a song, I think it was one of his last, that “aint no grave gonna hold [him] down”.
Aint that the truth? I started listening to him, and reading the Bible more and more because of his songs!
I still not going to the church somehow...

he was an adultery, drunk, druggie, cursed, liar, etc..then he was saved after he fornicated and divorced his wife. Hmmm
I understand our sins are forgiven after we get repent, get baptized, and receive the Holy Ghost. I hope he was saved after he committed adultery and not before. If he was first saved then sinned and then came back to Jesus Christ..well sadly then he would have been forever an adulterer as what the bible says. And the bible states that adulterers will not inherit God's kingdom. I used to listen to his music as well but when I found out he committed adultery and fornication on his wife then I lost all respect in him. Remember most if not all of the movie stars and singers sell their soul to the devil for fame and fortune.

    # HE TURNED THE WATER INTO WINE
Not the great miracle, but should be a crime
Not a drip of water for people who are dying
He wanted the strong stuff, drunk all night
Where it’s needed for living, theres not a drop in sight
Fine feast Of bread and fresh pink salmon
Where is he when he’s needed, when real devastating famine
Only if you’re his friend, will he use his magic
A wedding drinking water, now that is tragic
What a great man,I’m like him and always look out for my mates

I hate christianism. Yes, I hate it just like I hate all other religions.
But Johnny's message is positive and sincere, and that's why this is one of my favorite songs from him

Most modern Christianity is pure evil, Johnnys vision of it is what it really should be not the mechanism for control through hatred it has become.

@sonvolt48 Mine was Folsom Prison Blues, but there are so many 'wrong' versions floating around that it took me a while to figure out the correct chords.
nett103 is right, Hurt was written by Trent Reznor. Cash was a very strong believer and I doubt his faith was shaken, even with the death of June, shortly before his own.

@r95rdstr True, they were very well suited to each other. I presume you've heard the background to the song Ring of Fire?

@r95rdstr Cool, I'll need to check both of those out. I've read 3 biographies of the man in black, but some of the details aren't so fresh in my memory.

@sonvolt48 Hurt was actually written by Trent Reznor of Nine in Nails. So I dont necessarily that reflects Cash's faith.
