As a 17 year old girl I can’t say enough how beautiful this film is! It is such an incredible inspiration to see a real movie about a teenage girl being her true self, even when people tell her that the person she is is strange and different. This has to be the best movie I have ever seen! Grace is such a beautiful soul! 💜
This was one of my favorite books growing up, in middle school. Absolutely phenomenal casting of Stargirl. She's exactly how I imagined her. If the movie ending is as sad as the book, it's going to destroy me, even though I'm a dude in my 20's now. I cannot wait for this.

in my seventh grade year, my english teacher, who was the only person i really talked to since i preferred not to have friends, gave me this book as a gift. she said i had lots of similarities with stargirl, like i played the ukulele and stayed to myself and also wasnt afraid to express who i was. so to have this movie come out after years of wanting to see it as a film, i am so excited.

Because I finally stopped caring what everyone thought. I saved myself. I was my own stargirl.
This movie is special. The cast were perfect for their characters, Grace has the potential to be huge in movies and the only other thing i am going to say is this, you should give it a watch or 10.

Nicholas Trevino II Yea the book is very similar, but i think there are a lot of young people who struggle with learning how to socially cope, and learning that people leave, & it sucks. That being said, it can help kids remember that its better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all. I have come appreciate this story much more as i have aged and matured. Except the only problem is there is an underlying feeling of superiority with people who are “just being themselves” and at the same time have total dependency on the way they dress and the music they listen to instead of their actual character. Saying “I’m different” implies everyone else is the same which is not true because all people are complex and three dimensional people not archetypes. The very idea of “standing out” inherently produces conflict, it divides people into us vs them. In reality we all live in a shared community and we all have individual experiences and traits that are unique. Shit like this is dumb and really only exists in fiction, it’s problematic tho when real people try to adopt it because they couldn’t find friends in the seventh grade

Many thanks to Disney for making this movie and supporting strong roles for young women. To all of you thinking you are smart accusing this of being a MPDG movie - Why is it that when there is a strong intelligent female somehow people turn this around as a reason to degrade the female? Why is joy and creativity a reason to degrade? Why is it bad for a person to be happy and care for others? I've read both books about Stargirl and find them inspiring. I believe most comments about MPDG are from people that have not read the books and don't know what they are talking about.
People don't seem to get the point that for Stargirl to have become as popular as she became at Mica, she must have done a heck of a lot more than just cozy up to Leo. She was the toast of the entire school at one point (and the trailer shows that). Leo was resigned to being a nobody, and she showed him you can be somebody and be celebrated no matter how different you are. Know of any MPDG's that ever did that?

Everyone’s memeing this but I read this book in Elementary school and I remember loving it so much. I feel like I want to reread the book then watch this. If you haven’t read the book you definitely should, it’s amazing (from what I remember)

rolandahime it was one of the worst books I've read, Star Girl was just the most annoying character and Leo had basically no personality. Star Girl was also just a really stupid name to give yourself, she also tried waaaayyyyy too hard to be unique and quirky.

Except the only problem is there is an underlying feeling of superiority with people who are “just being themselves” and at the same time have total dependency on the way they dress and the music they listen to instead of their actual character. Saying “I’m different” implies everyone else is the same which is not true because all people are complex and three dimensional people not archetypes. The very idea of “standing out” inherently produces conflict, it divides people into us vs them. In reality we all live in a shared community and we all have individual experiences and traits that are unique. Shit like this is dumb and really only exists in fiction, it’s problematic tho when real people try to adopt it because they couldn’t find friends in the seventh grade

Stargirl is one of my all time favorite books. I read it in the 6th grade, in 2005. I’ve read it countless times since. The thought of it being a movie terrifies me because it is such a precious book, and I feel like it would be so easy to do it horribly wrong….. the trailer is not convincing me, but the comments are encouraging… I guess I should give it a watch!

Many thanks to Disney for making this movie and supporting strong roles for young women. To all of you thinking you are smart accusing this of being a MPDG movie - Why is it that when there is a strong intelligent female somehow people turn this around as a reason to degrade the female? Why is joy and creativity a reason to degrade? Why is it bad for a person to be happy and care for others? I've read both books about Stargirl and find them inspiring. I believe most comments about MPDG are from people that have not read the books and don't know what they are talking about.
People don't seem to get the point that for Stargirl to have become as popular as she became at Mica, she must have done a heck of a lot more than just cozy up to Leo.
She was the toast of the entire school at one point (and the trailer shows that). Leo was resigned to being a nobody, and she showed him you can be somebody and be celebrated no matter how different you are. Know of any MPDG's that ever did that?

Wow. It's amazing to think Grace VanderWaal is now having her own movie. I can still remember when she auditioned on AGT with her song I Don't Know My Name over 3 years ago. She's come so far since then and I wish her the best.
The male lead in this is the guy who plays young Shaun Murphy on The Good Doctor and the scenes he’s done have been amazing.
I remember reading this book as a kid and I cried. I’ve been waiting for someone to realize its potential and that they’ve had I’m so happy😊
