      I learned about Harlem renaissance only because Im in school for an art class. I'm only watching this video because we didn't cover it as extensively as i was interested in it. I endorse it all, but formal education still raises awareness.

      Probably because it came out in '59, long after the heyday of the Harlem Renaissance.

    wow this whole time i've been thinking Zora Neale Hurston wrote Raisin in the Sun. We even read it specifically for a Harlem Renaissance unit in school, but Lorraine Hansberry wasn't born til 1930 and she didn't write it as a foetus lol

      No you're right, it is out of focus. You can tell by looking at the spots of reflected light in his eyes.

      W.E.B. Du Bois pronounced his name following standard English phonology.

      W.E.B. DuBois' grandfather was a French slaveholder. His grandfather pronounced it Doo-bwah, but given the association, DuBois took on the English phonetic pronunciation.

    I read in some articles that in Harlem in 1920's there were many drugs like marijuana, cocaine and heroin, I also read that there were many consumers in Harlem at that time, is that true?

      No you're right. You can tell by looking at the light reflection spots in his eyes, they are definitely out of focus. Kinda distracting for sure.

      Because that was the proper term of the time, and when you study older periods for a living some of the vernacular can make its way into yours, especially when talking about that period
