    I want some gargoyle geckos! Thank you so much for this. New subscriber, and I love your channel! Could you do a video on getting started with geckos? Like... a budget version that still takes good care of the animal? I don't want to cheap out and hurt someone. And OMG those cave geckos!! I'll be watching for those videos! 😍I want that orange one you showed at 6:45. He's gorgeous.

      First off welcome to the family. I am going to be getting into so many gecko species it isn't funny. I def want some gargoyles too. That would be an amazing animal to work with. And a little down the line I will do a video on getting started with all of these animals.

    I'm jus getting into geckos I had a bts ..now I'm trying crested and gargoyles which are better for handling in your opinion?

    • @AllThingsLiving813
      @AllThingsLiving813  Рік тому

      I think they both tolerate handling quite well. I wouldn't say any reptile enjoys it but they are completely OK with being handled. I would go with what you want. Either choice is fine.

      from my experience with a gargoyle, i was very lucky to have a guy who was super tolerant for handling. never bit me, rarely ever jumped, and was super sweet and cute! i totally recommend gargs!

    Most of these animals have a current minimum closer to a 40 gallon, 20 is honestly quite small. Due to their size or activity levels a 20 gallon is really pushing it. 😅

      I would def recommend more space I state this in every one of my videos. But I have been keeping a lot of species successfully in 20 gallons for years. If you can give them more space than do that. But most of this list is composed of small geckos.

    • @sneekyalexa2657
      @sneekyalexa2657 Рік тому +1

      @@AllThingsLiving813 They're small geckos, yeah, but in more recent years their minimums have become 18x18x24 (arboreal) and 36x18x18(for more terrestrial species). A 20 gallon just starts to be enough room for 3 hides but isnt enough space to give them beyond that. With the communal knobs or barking geckos, really more space should be provided since it's for multiple individuals. Female hognoses are even usually suggested 40g+ since they're larger, and garter snakes are extremely active so even though some species only reach the length of a 20g, this is not adequate for them to be able to roam around and display their behaviors. I respect that UA-cam channels are having to compete with the algorithm and that top lists work well, but often trying to fit animals into a set sized enclosure is more difficult and sacrificing the animals needs rather than someone finding the animal they want and then getting the appropriate size enclosure for said animal.

    • @AllThingsLiving813
      @AllThingsLiving813  Рік тому +2

      Absolutely correct. Once again I would def recommend more space for alot of these animals. In fact I recommend more space for every animal. I put day geckos on this list but my day geckos live in an 8 foot enclosure. But I gave many alternatives like the peacock the gold dust the lined day gecko all would be perfect. I know people breeding beautiful knob tails in 20s right now and have been for years. The snakes for sure could use more space in fact when I saw these animals recommended for 20s I kinda paused. I don't own snakes but know many people who do. I think these animals need more space across the board.

      @@sneekyalexa2657 A 40 gallon for a gecko is like an 8*4*4 foot tank for a bearded dragon, is that that bare minimum enclosure for a bearded dragon?
      The bare minimum enclosure for a lizard is 2*1*1 times the lizard’s full length. For example, a 2 foot lizard needs at least a 120 gallon 4*2*2 enclosure. The bare minimum enclosure for a gecko is probably something like a 10 gallon enclosure, and bigger is always better.
      I’ve always found it so hypocritical how the bigger the reptile is, the smaller it’s comparatively sized tank size is. Some people will say you need at least 40 gallon enclosure for your leopard gecko or your hognose snake, then keep their reticulated Python in a 6*2*2 enclosure.

    • @sneekyalexa2657
      @sneekyalexa2657 11 місяців тому +1

      @metaknight115 Someone keeping a mainland retic in a 6x2x2 would not be keeping a leo in a 40, that person would keep a leo in a 10g, which was standard about 15-20 years ago. That's two different groups of people. Honestly our standards in the US, and even Canada are lower than other countries. Length of an animal alone isn't the sole factor in enclosure size, but I can assure you a 40 gallon is not big at all. I agree larger species deserve larger minimums though. I hope to have more species some day and i plan to give them the best homes that I'm able to.

    this is nuts a day gecko in 20 gal? that's torture for the animal!
    I hate this thinking: "I got to limited space so I'm gonna give my pet even less." all geckos need at least 40 gal when full grown (maybe the tiniest are ok with 30 gal). just don't buy a pet if you can't give it what it needs.
    Geckos need hiding spaces as well as a lot space to roam. They climb and even jump and day geckos need basking spots too.

    • @AllThingsLiving813
      @AllThingsLiving813  7 місяців тому +1

      We were talking about peacock day geckos. In fact we stated putting any other day gecko in a 20 is a horrible idea.
