I have walked up the banking at Brooklands and have watched racing on the banking at Monza and Montlhery I feel privileged.
Wonderful! Everytime i see banked Tracks i want to drive there. They are awesome and exciting! I love IT!
Thanks. I'm also a fan of these banked tracks. I had the unique opportunity to drive at Sitges-Terramar in 2008, which was great.
Hoho, we see what you did there, Herman- matching the nationality of the music to the location of the track! Getting pretty good at this video stuff,eh? Bravo...
Very good :) Thanks!
I discovered this video today, a bit late but, I clicked hoping to see that Sitge-Terramar bank because it's literalli 10 min from where I live. And the fact that is in there made me happy, thanks :)
You're welcome. I visited Sitges-Terramar in 2008. You can read the amazing story about my visit and driving on the banking here: www.circuitsofthepast.com/sitges-terramar-track-visit/
This looks like one of the most fun videos you made. We have so many dead Ovals in the US. Probably more in North and South Carolina than in all of Europe. Did I miss the lengths on these tracks? That would interest me also. I am surprised AVUS did not make the list, but now I guess there is not near as much to see there (If into High banks)...
The AVUS was not in the video for two reasons. 1. It was not a real oval. 2. The banking was demolished in 1967, so I could only show the flat version of the old North Corner. The length of the tracks didn't came to mind when I produced the video. I will think about it on my future videos. Thanks for mentioning!
@@Circuitsofthepast Ah! AVUS came to mind when viewing this video. Your explanation about it is much appreciated by me.
1:40: Not much left of the Opel Rennbahn...
6:12: One of my fourite oval tracks.
8:43: Looks so weird...
Thanks a lot for uploading.
Greetings Peter
Music in 1.5times faster is awesome :)
These banked circuits of yesteryear are amazing , still love all forms of motorsport but it's not nearly as good as it was in olden times , thanks for the link your interaction with viewers is great & most welcome
You're welcome :)
It is so sad to see the Sitges-Terramar oval in that state, they only ever look after it if they know an event is coming to the track or if a special event like the Le Mans Audi runs there or a Ferrari road car for a Racing Magazine or a Feature for TV is there,so sad I want them to keep that circuit alive and well,it is and should be a national racing treasure.
There are plans to revive Sitges-Terramar. But the problem is to finance it.
This oval was in the grand tour episode with james may in a Honda civic type R & clarkson in an aston Martin db5
There is something so sad about an abandoned race track. Where I live in the Southern US there are so many. It’s not like a building that becomes something else , perhaps better than before. These places quickly return to nature and are forgotten very quickly. There are no alumni or reunions, just memories belonging to people who competed or watched.
Excellent Herman as usual, thanks :)
Danke :)
Ciao Herman!! Bellissimo video!! Comlimenti!! Next year a UK tour to document all the circuits? I'll send you the folder soon.
Grazie. A UK tour is on my to-do-list. For next year I doubt between the UK and the USA.
I use the music from the UA-cam library because then I'm safe with the copyrights.
Is there an improved version of this list, Herman??
Not yet.
Just seen Ed and Mike on that circuit in England and for Monza they use it for Monza Rally the one Valentino Rossi has won in the last two years
Yes the Monza Oval is used once a year for the Monza Rally. But they use only the lower part of the banking. Here a video of a bicycle tour I made on the oval last summer. ua-cam.com/video/fp3N4tw2LR0/v-deo.html
I thought Talladega had the tallest banking ever until I watched this video! The last track is twice the banking as Talladega!!!!
It's weird that most of them have the most obvious progressive banking I've ever seen
They are all classic ovals. Modern ovals have not so much banking anymore. Only Taladega comes close.
@4:42...Amazing...rotting wooden timbers (beams) used to support millions of Lbs. of concrete used for the oval's banking sections. No wonder it is only used for bicycle tours and slow speed drive arounds.
Yes, soon or later they have to do something to prevent it will collapse.
6:03 what's the song name?
Cruiser, from Silent Partner.
Your forgot the AVUS with 43,6° banking.
The AVUS was not an oval.
@@Circuitsofthepast Technically not, no. But it was very close.
That's right. Actually I wanted to make a video about high banked corners in Europe, inclusive the AVUS and the Karussell at the Nürbrurgring Nordschleife. Unfortunately, the Nürbrurgring didn't want to cooperate. So I decided to make a video about high banked ovals only.
fun
Good video.
Thank you. I hope you enjoy also my other videos.
I enjoy them a lot. They're very well done. Here in America, there's lots of banked ovals. Even I race on high banked ovals in the kart.
Great! Is there an opportunity do drive on a banked oval with a rental kart?
Some places do it, but most places don't do it. I know that many of the NASCAR tracks offer tours where you ride in a vehicle.
Monza Oval has also been operating earlier. From the 20s or 30s
The current Monza oval is from 1955. There has been another oval before, which was demolished in 1938. See www.circuitsofthepast.nl/en-US/monza-oval
is it Me? or Track #4 looks like someone with big money can fix it up (Note I just saw little of it)
That's Linas-Montlhéry, the only track in this video that's still operational. However, it could use some refurbishment as the track was very bumpy.
last one is 66 degrees???? TALK ABOUT SCARY!!! The drivers of yesteryear were an entirely different breed from what you see today!!!
I drove that 66 degree banking by myself. Not at race speed but fast enough to get to the top of it. And it was scary when I looked down and saw the depth below me :D
6:03 song? Great video.
The name of the song is Cruiser. You can download it in the UA-cam media library.
Banked turns in an unstable RWD car can get very scary 😂
Do you have experience with it?
Circuits of the past Yes not fun in a MR2. How about you?
@@SilverScarletSpider I drove at Sitges-Terramar in a FWD, but did the Karussell at the Nürburgring in a RWD, which was good fun. On which banked track did you drive?
Circuits of the brooklamds
@@SilverScarletSpider I think you mean Brooklands
1:18 Wot!
No gratuitous shot of Concorde resting here?
Not in this video. But in this video there is one: ua-cam.com/video/o7pHSCEs48c/v-deo.html
