Hosted by the brilliant @Aqvavitae and @thewhiskybothy they come back for a second year for the Online Scotch Whisky Awards and I wanted to give my take on the nominations and winners.
Huge congrats should be given to everyone involved in this awards, from the hosts, contributors, voters and Graeme who put together so much of the social media stuff together. Was really amazing of any whisky enthusiast or amature to watch.
I know this is a little late to come out... I am very slow at this video stuff!

Are you aboard the hype train of the OSWAs and picked up any of the winners?
Well I tried the victoriana in the pot still recently and absolutely loved it. For sure need more time with it but planning on picking that up.
My hope is that G&M will also bump their 43% releases to 46%. Even at 43% they are good but I feel they can be better.
@@TimHoekstra I hope you are able to great the bottle at a good price. I belive I managed about 30% off RRP so fingers crossed! Agree that some bottles are held back by abv.

How did you also think of a hype train/Thomas The Tank Engine mashup? Was waiting for an upcoming video to drop it in to critical acclaim.

Didnt see the oswas but will go check them out now. Surely people will put Macallan as number 1?
Would 100% reccomend checking out the OSWAs full video, last years as well. Gives a real snapshot of where the whisky drinkers stand for that moment in time!
my thoughts when i was voting for the last category (which i find most agitating category this year), from the point of you of someone from poland:
18y olds? why not 40? - would surely win the category /s
kilkerran 16? 69gbp? this stuff is totally unavailable, and even if it is (in very low quantities), it's 100++
ardnamurchan cs? it's even less available than kilkerran
bunna 12? it's great. but best scotch? come on..
victoriana? well, ok, maybe. for ~50gbp that i bought it for, it punches well above its price
ok, let me vote for victoriana, it appears to be the most sane nomination
i believe the "nominators" should have tried staying closer to price/quality/availability sweet spots and being a bit closer to a world-average whisky lovers
Some really intresting thoughts and super surprised how pricey Kilkerran 16 is for you! I have always felt that bar Glen Scotia they don't want to increase the amount produced due to it would effect the whole unavailable hype. What would you put for your winner out of any whisky? Agree that price/quality/availability is a massive factor.
@@JeffWhisky whiskies are usually noticably lower priced in poland than in the uk, and availability is generally great, at least for the core ranges. until it comes to glengyle or springbank - these are very rare, and sold basically on spot for completely unjustified money. hype, i'd guess. last time i was lucky enough to snatch a bottle of longrow peated for around 40gbp on a discount (i still can't believe it even was on discount - otherwise i'd be looking at 55gbp+ for this basic nas. that is if i could find it at all) a couple of months ago. anyway, out of campbeltown we at least have glen scotia, which is available, not so pricey (well, it goes up all the time too and i guess i won't be buying my next 15yo). heck, they even do poland special releases (last year it was 10y peated first-fill bourbon, nothing special, but still appreciated). the newer distilleries are also very hard to get. nevertheless, we are probably much better whisky-wise than many other countries
Good video Jeff. Personally I think they need to split Irish and American whiskeys into there own category. Then rebrand to OWA's
Now that is a good shout. So would be World Whisky / American Whiskey/ Irish Whiskey? Do you think any other country could get their own category, English, Japanese? Cheers for watching 🥃
It's definitely food for thought. I would personally put European / Uk Whisky and Asian/Middle Eastern whiskey into there own category. There are so many out there just to sum up into (world whisky) is a shame
A real valid point that. Would an organisation by Continent work outside of Irish, Scotch and Bourbon? Guess it does raise the question when does something get large enough for their own category? With Scotch being the only individual focus, it may keep it fairer. Tricky one. Cheers.
