Look at PNG, the majority of their squad consists of local talent who understand the significance of the Kumuls jersey. For them, representing the Kumuls is the pinnacle of achievement in PNG rugby league, and they play with immense pride and heart for that jersey.

One of the lessons learnt by Batis is; Never Train with a women (Tongan Girls) Team when your opponent is Kumuls. Be a True Melanesian, Train with Men.
In much of our Melanesian culture, warriors keep away from women before all battles. Bati were training with women before battle with renowned fellow Melanesian rugby league warriors (opponents). It was not surprising that they lost even though they were favorites before the game.
Well, PNG have always played consistent footy and they deserved the win. Fiji weren't puting plays together and lacked depth in their game inspite of all the experience on their side.

I dont know why, PNG players do not get a lot of opportunity in the NRL than Fiji. Fijians have depth of powerhouse NRL players, yet they could not deliver on every occasions these two countries has met. PNG have won(if I'm correct) 6 to 2(Fiji) games played. Nrl experience won't count for much if you don't have the spine. Look at Tonga against Australia. Not that Fiji cares much about the loss. International rugby league is insignificant, that it's taken 21 years for Fiji to play another official test on home soil shows how much priority they give the sport.
