    Thank you, MSP! I reluctantly started swimming 7 months ago to support and accompany my friend at the pool. Now I'm the one dragging my friend to the pool, almost every day. Swimming has had a huge impact on my life and physical/mental well-being, and your tutorials have played a role in the never-ending goal to do a "perfect" lap.

    I'm a competitive age-group triathlete (60-64) and I actually swim in competition using the catch-up technique. Despite my overall fitness, because I didn't come from a swimming background, I always struggled to find a form that would keep me in the mix without burning up too much energy in the water. I found that staying extended while using a strong two-beat kick really propelled me while remaining relatively calm and smooth. Also breathing became much more relaxed. I'm still not a top swimmer, but I now leave the water in much better shape, both physically and mentally.

    • @steeleronfire7030

      I recently came to the same conclusion for myself. I self taught myself to swim in the last 3 years. Made massive improvements but could never figure out my rhythm and timing. I noticed how efficient and relaxed I felt during catch up drill, so now I basically implement that as my stroke but just slightly earlier pull than true catch-up.

    When you start your stroke extended like that, if you don't rotate perfectly, you are going to mess up your, I think, pectoralis major and your deltoid even, guaranteed. The first pull should never be initiated with the shoulder. These muscles are too weak to stand the effort and are not meant for that.

  • @robohippy
    @robohippy Рік тому +2

    In watching the Olympics, for years, it seems that all of the freestylers, when their hands enter the water, they are almost directly on the center line, rather than at 11 and 1. I guess part of this is because of body rotation. Your hands would still be a shoulder width apart, but since your shoulders are at that 40 or so degree rotation, then they appear to enter the water closer to the center line. To this I would add that some teach to use a slight outsweep before starting your arm pull. Curious as to why this is taught for the fly, but not always with freestyle. I am very old school, and learned to have my hand entry very near the head, and to extend down and out, then use a big hour glass shaped pull. Don't do that any more. This was more in line with the old total immersion style of freestyle, which I don't see as being as efficient as what is now considered normal freestyle. It still surprises me how many enter way too close to their head rather than getting almost full extension before hand entry. Swimming over arm side stroke lets me see everything in the pool.....

    Per nuotare bene prima di tutto si deve sapere stare in acqua come dei pesci. Per cui prima di nuotare vasche su vasche con tecnica scadente acquisite un ottima acquaticità di base. Controllo del ritmo respiratorio, galleggiamenti, remate, scivolamenti ed apnee. Allenatevi tutti i giorni con allenamenti di qualita', tanta tecnica e poi dopo essere diventati bravi a livello coordinativo vi ammazzate di vasche per sviluppare la condizione. Hopefully just a little drag - since you just want to drag the tips of your fingers across the surface, not your whole hand! @@neilriver which still doesn’t make “freestyle” a stroke. Freestyle is an event and was called freestyle because you are allowed to use any stroke in the event you like. The crawl happens to be the fastest stroke so that is the stroke everyone uses in the freestyle event.

      @@LuvMyCardiKids You don't have needa be so technical with it. Every swimmer, including me, calls the "front crawl" "freestyle" because I've never seen anyone doing something different while swimming freestyle. It's all the same. You're definitely not a swimmer if you call freestyle the "front crawl"

      @@neilriver well you got that wrong too. I was on the swim team from the time I was 7 years old and my coach insisted we use proper terminology (his words, not mine). So not every swimmer calls the crawl free style. Coach Titus would never have allowed such an affront.
