Those are illegal in a lot of countries anyway (US and European Union included) So they can put all the stickers they want on there, they still by law are supposed to honor the warranty.

Not correct - on both accounts.
The EU warranty laws don't count closed loop coolers, but they DO count laptop and desktop parts. Just like how your graphics card can't have its cooler removed, but you can RMA a graphics card from a prebuilt PC.
As for "not going anywhere unless you take them to court" remark... good thing we have consumer rights organisations who will do just that for you, which is why almost every retailer folds once you threaten them.

    • @EmBeeSeven
      @EmBeeSeven 7 років тому +33

It makes perfect sense. If you expand your loop and fuck it up, they aren't responsible for replacing your unit because it wasn't a problem with the product in it's original state.

I'm getting ready to get into Water Cooling for the first time. And I'm doing as much research as I can about the subject. All of your videos on the subject are VERY informative. So, with all this information at my hand I will be doing a PETG for my first build. Flex tubing seems to easy. I am VERY mechanically inclined so this doesn't seem like much of a challenge. But I cannot wait to try this. I know I will make mistakes doing this but I'm all in now. And I cannot wait. I bought the Thermaltake GT20 case just to do this. I liked the View 91 but the cost was a bit much for my liking. The GT20 was right in my budget. I plan on doing this all within time and I am in no rush to get this done. From all your videos that I have watched PATIENCE is key for Water Cooling PCs. And I'm very excited to do this for the first time. Somewhere down the road I'm planning on moving to glass, but for the time being I will stick with PETG. It looks like a good starting point. And Flex Tubing just looks terrible IMO. So Thanx for all your hard work on putting these Water Cooling videos together for all of us. I for one am extremely appreciative for your hard work on the matter.

    Jay, Awesome video!
Question: Can you run this system for a couple of months and then do a disassembly video to show if galvanic corrosion took place or not. The radiator is Aluminium, and, I think you used a copper of nickle/copper water block for the GPU and Fractal uses a copper cold plate for their CPU. Plus nickle plated copper barbs on a Aluminium radiator. Even with using an anti-corrosive coolant, I think it will make an interesting video and put all mixed metal water cooling questions to rest, any probably silence some haters along the way too. Keep pumping out more kickass videos!

Been there, done that. Couple of months you'll not see an issue at all. Couple of years well that can be another story. I used Blue Asian formula antifreeze for months and everything was clean as a whistle before moving to all copper. People make me paranoid. I did have an AIO fail where the fluid lost it's anti corrosive properties, the aluminum rad suffered badly, the copper CPU plate on the other hand cleaned up nicely and looks new.

  • @zacboi94

Just tried a custom loop with the s24. Set up exactly the same way but with no GPU route, only cpu.
Well after hours of trying, the fluid will not flow around the loop. I have tried moving the resivoir and everything but there is not enough power to push the fluid around?
    Any suggestions please?

I convert most of my AIO's to custom loops as a standard in many of my current and past systems as it's not too difficult. The main reason for doing it is to be able to monitor fluid level and condition, the main killer of AIOs. You can also expand capability (upgrading radiator size or adding a second). This said, some AIOs are more difficult than others based on how the fittings are attached to the pump and radiator and also the size/style used. Ideally, at least in the States, you want to be able to use 1/4" or 3/8" OD tubing as it's stocked at local hardware stores and very cheap. It comes in clear vinyl and solid, flexible rubber (automotive variety). Both work fine but vinyl is usually better as you can see the fluid and air bubbles more easily. Lastly, most AIO's are more than capable of runnign large radiators, or more than one radiator, and/or graphic card blocks. Closed loops don't require much pressure or flow-rate, expecially when we're talking

Get a Predator x360 or similar kit for under 400 and you will have a proper loop kit with easy tubing, a top of the line pump / block and an extremely high quality radiator, all copper contacts. So I put 8 paper sheets between Mobo and backplate and that did the trick.
Also tubes from radiator where to far apart to fit into top section of my Be quiet Silent Base 800 case, but scissors for metal helped me there.
Spent 5 hours installing said cooler.
Performance is nice. Quiet operation can be achieved for up to 3.875GHz@1.3675V

Because it really isn't. I've never watercooled, never even built a custom PC in my life, and I can tell you this looks easy to do, given you have the correct mounts and such.
Not to mention in my own personal opinion, a custom loop really doesn't seem that hard either(at least depending on materials used). Besides sourcing parts, the main thing with custom loops just seems to be the sequence in which it flows(again, that's my own personal opinion). Other than that, it really doesn't seem as difficult as you or anyone else makes it out to be.

Generally I hate sponsored content but this is actually interesting. A bit overacted but I will let that go given the experimental nature and the attempt to make it more accessible. Well produced though like we are used to from Jay. The concept of an extensible AIO to custom watercooling is good, the investment costs of watercooling are hight, this way you can work towards it in phases if you really want to do it.

Ive been building gaming computers for over 20 years, i used an open loop in just one of my computers in the past.
The reason i dont do custom loops anymore, is because its extremely expensive. The fittings alone can cost hundreds of dollars. CPU block can cost hundreds, GPU block can cost even more. Your water cooling loop can end up costing more then your PC components, depending on how much you spent on your components.
Im good. The prices got very expensive over the years. I would love to do more custom loops, but not with the prices right now.

I have a couple of question regarding this expansion. Since the sensors are led by the CPU block, does that mean the GPU block is at the mercy of CPU temps? How does someone work with this? Also, if you wanted a bigger radiator, can you remove both in-take and out-take tubes to replace the radiator and how would that work with sensors?

I have no problem it being a sponsored video, I thought it was informative, BUT... I didn't really like the fake laughs and applause and so on. I get the joke on infomercials but on a 12 minute video I found it quickly to be quite annoying. I also think this is not your kind of comedy Jay. I prefer your usual solo, self deprecating style of comedy. This comedy style would fit better in the short Fractal Design commercials that you and Kyle roll before your videos. Anyway it's also good to try something new and this is meant to be just constructive criticism.

Ive ALWAYS wondered about this. I have a few old AIO's w/ fd up pumps and whatnot.. so I had wondered if I could repurpose them in an open loop-- b/c I seen a custom job a while back where someone used a car radiator, attached to his desk, to cool his system. Now, Im not looking to go that big.. but I did have a question about this endeavor:
Would it be just as easy to do this if someone was to try using 2 rads from AIO's, THEN attaching them to an external pump that can handle the size of the two pumps+res?

Question......Will the coolant that comes in AIO setups freeze?..or does it have properties such as the antifreeze (coolant) in your car?

Is the pump strong enough to push water through a loop like this over a long period of time? Being that the pump is only designed for the one component?

    Hello @Jayztwocents
This is an older DIY vid and most still apply today, but would it be cool if u refreshed it with the Corsair parts.
Lets say you got a old corsair AIO for the CPU and pump died.
You wanna start real watercooling, but not wanna wast that old rad and mabey expand the system with a bigger rad 360mm or 480mm or multiple depending on case.
Add a 3000 or 4000 series Nvidia card or AMD next gen card + pump reservoir and just make it look great with limited knowledge .
Whats the things you need to look out for and what compatibility issues could arise, what would you choose if on a budget and if got more to spare but not like a full prebuild pc, hence re-using the old tech make it run cool and quiet.
    Kind regards ,
    Xander from the Netherlands

Wouldn't you go through the radiator to the res to the pump to the hardware so it has the maximum time to cool?

You guys should've just shown Nick sitting there hitting a button that "signaled" the crowd laughter, lol. This was a nice little twist compared to your usual videos, but it's nice to see that even Fractal Design has offered a way to expand the AIO compared to just seeing EKWB come up with something like that

Only looked at the upload date a couple of minutes into the video, and this is an old product. The newer versions sold on Newegg have quick release fittings on the tubes, so I assume (but didn’t check Fractal’s website) that they [Fractal] also have the appropriate quick connect expansion parts to fit with the loop, at which point all parts of the system should still be under Fractal’s warranty.

For someone like me, this is a great idea. Say what you want, a full custom loop is scary to someone who has only built a few computers, and wants to try out water cooling.
I built my Ryzen computer a few weeks after launch, and I have been wanting to try out a nice AiO for a while. IF I decide to expand the loop, I will be using this video as a guide!
    Thanks, Jay!

True question, could you use the pump of a 120 mm old asoteck and create a loop using the CPU block of ot? Or will the waterflow be too low?
