- The Carbide3D CNC mill is a neat little machine. It's smaller in size, but built strong so it can handle the violent stresses of milling operations.

Winston is one of the best desktop cnc mill youtubers out there.
I couldn't agree with you more
I saw this at the matterhackers booth and wanted to learn more. I'm glad I caught this video.
I really love Winston's videos on youtube, got a shapeoko and he was very helpful to me !
"but that is not my channel"
what was that answer all about?
Ryan Marchant his channel is Winston moy not Winston makes. But even he got confused and misspoke and said Winston makes.
Hahaha. It is Moy, but he also has Winston Makes More. :)
Hi im bob and i like to make stuff
You inspire me to get a 3d printer myself and then start a UA-cam channel of my own.
Love your videos. Hoping to do work in 3D printing myself one day. Thanks you so much for everything you show us
Thank you for watching, and I wish you nothing but the best of luck in getting to work in this field!
Never heared about Renshape material before ... but now i need to get one for my Stepcraft milling machine. I really like the content mixture about printing, milling and engraving. ;-)
All About 3D Blog renshape is very similar to the green foam marterial used for hydroponics. It is very brittle but more dense.
Also do you have any videos/thoughts on your stepcraft. Been eyeballing one for a while.
I am an industrial designer and we use it a lot for prototyping although we don’t hanve a cnc mill. It’s reeeeeeally easy to work with, and comes in various densities. On the high density renshape you can give it an awesome finish, I can guarantee that. Only problem: the bloody price. They are using a little block there, but considering the fact that is almost impossible to come around it here in Italy, that cube could cost up to 15€. Which is a fuckton of money if you imagine needing something as big as a printer for example.
Jttv what bout that green foam? As I said earlier, using wrenshape for prototyping is killing me as a student and would love to find an alternative. Already tried polystyrene and it sucks because it is too fragile, it dents too easily and the surface finish is just awful
Emiliano Colombo I believe it is called floral foam. It is a far bit more brittle then reshape. If you look up videos of lego CNC mills they use it there.
I have also seen people use PU foam and cross linked PE foam.
The guy from Estlcam SW is using XPS (Styrodur) for CNC prototyping. This is easier to get here in europe. Renshape is almost not possibe to get from europe.
Winston 👍 Great Channel
Love This Awesome Place
I'm Not A 3D Printing Guy, But I Love Joel's Content
Winston is good people. I'm biased though as we both enjoy the Carbide 3D machines. :)
So you still have to make sure ur part is PERFECTLY centered in the jig.. if the maker sees this.. u need a new jig that will clamp evenly from top/bottom AS WELL AS left/right.
And u need some stand off threaded feet for pins, so the height can be kept even,,, possibly have a flat laser from the side of machine that you align with the top of the part. So when you flip it you can make the height zeroing at the same height.
Would make it so much simpler for dual sided alignment.. also, only have 2 pin locations, not 4. That eliminates user error potential from fliping over wrong axis.
That was a nice nod to I Like to Make Things. That's a cool material though I'd definitely wear a respiration while working with it
Did anybody notice that right after the mentioned the price of 2500 dollar the whole image lost its saturation and became more grayish like something died inside of me but actually it was on the screen?
Yep. Sean was applying Lumetri color adjustments and missed that clip.
I just thought it was the collective disappointment of everyone that can't afford it xD
It's possible. I haven't been at Adobe in a while, could be a new feature in Premiere
My blood went cold.... lol
@@SunflowerAspenPlays hahaha
İ love your explaining on every tech video
BAMF means something totally different in my mind... lol. Great video.
Is it what Samual L Jackson says?
3D Printing Nerd it sure is. Haha
Total cross over event for me. #WorldsCollide
The CNC needs a built in vac attachment for your shop vac to pull all the debris out. Its just a bad plan to mill through the shavings.
Absolutely love the channel ❤️
Thank you!
I did notice someone manually vacuuming the scrap, so we could get a better look and I wonder if that might be a bigger problem with details in a harder material or a material with which the force of the drill could accidently reattach some flakes. Although due the sweeping action of the tool, it would probably not be attached to much surface area.
As always, nothing's perfect and I expect it's something they will evaluate and address further down the line, when creating new machines.
Super nice machine
I'd love to learn more about this material and appreciate when you introduce us to something new and very different. I'll probably put some research in now myself.
I'll also point out that they are carving KidRobot's Dunny design.
Yes, dang it. It was on the tip of my tongue at Maker Faire and I felt stupid not being able to say it at the time.
3D Printing Nerd Haha no problem. It happens to everyone. I had to to Google it, because I knew it was KidRobot but "not munny, the other one."
Oh I the second comment was just me reposting the name in case anyone else was scrolling comments for it. It wasn't two people pointing the name out, so don't feel bad.
You guys both are the real deal, great video. I'm now inspired to design and 3d print a flip jig for my x-carve.
Thanks for sharing :-)
You're very welcome!
I'm not sure who rendered it, but they are definitely carving KidRobot's "Dunny" design.
Correct. I felt dumb at Maker Faire because I knew it from somewhere but couldn't get it off the tip of my tongue.
nice machine but the pricepoint man oh man. You can get any number of SLA machines that produce at much finer resolution.
My friend just got June Hacker of the month from matterhackers
Will it mill any metals? surely aluminium at least for the cost.
Heyy, I think I'm using their PCB GCode generator for my thesis project.
👍
I will have to go next year. Do they have a lot of woodworking (my hobby) booths?
They do have some, though, they have a lot of everything.
I WAS THERE
what kind of material?? Renshape? is that the spelling...? thanks...
Joel can you do a $1 VS $100 filament review.
I don't know what that means. I don't know of any $1 filaments.
Thanks for the reply. What I mean by that is compare the cheapest filament you can find and a somewhat expensive one. Review them and tell us the pros and cons about each and which one you would recommend. The cheapest I’ve seen is $4 on Wish.
was it just me or was teh audio for this video way off. music was louder then joel and the other guy and grabeled (though could have been music choice)
I researched through speakers and headphones and it was fine for both for me.
Hey guys can u please give me advice.. I’m doing wooden stuff like wooden rings and wooden glasses and more of accessories so I’m looking for the best CNC machine for wooden art
Thank u so much if u can help x
0:54 dangit.
Heh. All good man. Did you know you can apply Lumetri effects to the master clip itself, rather than having to apply it to all clips?
I did! I just never actually do that, due to habbits. I need to start!
whats the material?
Why use belt to power cutting head...No gear train or larger brass gear to mesh with cutting head gear. Seems like they eliminate all belts, why not spend a little more time to eliminate all belts.
i'm sure answer is because belt works to spin tool head, but gear/gears would work too. it would be louder but milling machines are already loud. Straight cut gear teeth deliver maximum power transmission!!!!
2500 ouch, definetly not for the average consumer and schools would rather buy a larger machine, I have no idea who this is for haha, why are all matter hacker items so obnoxiously expensive?
Ik love maker fair but i live in the Nederlands end to far a way one time i will go wihf a friend
Ohhhhh it’s a printer with a Fortnite characters name!!
Joel, I know this is probably the wrong place to ask, but I'm brand new to 3d and I keep running into some certificate of trust thing that won't let me download stl files for my new printer I'd sure like to try. Can you take a minute and help an old guy? Either way, thanks.
You have to not double click the file, instead right click and open it with whatever program you use manually. Windows tries to default STL files to certificate trust list instead of what it actually is.
Thank you. I'll give it a try,

so how long did it takd to carve out?
Less than an hour for sure.
me and the 3d printing nerd got the same hoodie
#HoodieHighFive
Bunny? No Dunny
Well Winston seems like a barrel of laughs 😣
$2500? You no-mad, bro? I'm mad and sad.
What's renshape?
Apparently it's a rad and easy material to work with!
3D Printing Nerd
But is it like a plastic or foam?
Clicked bc I saw a dunny in the thumbnail
what is the material
Renshape
The material is expensive. I wonder if you could print/make the material with a kinex impingement mixer and a pump station. You could make the size of material you needed.
Ball screws would be even beter
Yes they would! Though, aren't those super pricey?
Winstons like; this guy is annoying af
Heh, I wish that were the case. Winston crazy loves me. It's weird in a good way.
I love your vids can I plz get a shoutout
SHOUT OUT!
:)
Winston kinda sucks
... new videos every Friday, eh?
Best piece of shade I have seen thrown in the last week. Nicely done Joel!
Hey im not saying i dont suck
Winston has the best voice.
How you center the bunny in that jig ?
