What an absolutely delightful chat/interview! Shakespeare is, befitting his name, a proper raconteur. Certainly convinced me to pick up the biography.

This is a great interview. Thank you. I really want to know more about Peter Fleming. That guy had more adventures in the 1930s-1940s than his brother Ian.

Thanks for sharing that, we view many of our interviews as similar to bonus content on DVDs.

It's great to hear about Bill Marshall. As a youngster I worked in a building on the Great West Road in Brentford where Bill was the caretaker. I used to have my tea breaks with Bill and we used to talk about his War experiences. Lots of fascinating tales. A truly great man but also a nice man who befriended a young man trying to make his way in the world.

Brilliant interview and excellent bio of both Fleming and Mr. Shakespeare’s process. Fleming deserves so much more praise than he receives

Excellent. I especially enjoyed the bit about the connections between Fleming and Le Carré (apparently shrugged off by the latter).

The possibility of Ian meeting Philby in Beirut always intrigues me. I like to think Fleming went to try and convince Philby to turn back. Of course we know what happened instead.

Max Hastings is a jerk. It doesn’t surprise me that he tries to minimize the accomplishments of Ian Fleming. He also is deeply anti-American.
