It’s always been westernized or inspired by the west….kpop was founded off the sounds and images of western artists and they took that and made their “own” sound but the west played a big part in this genre. which many top CEOs and senior artists will say the same thing and have before….tell me you listen to kpop but know nothing about kpop.
@@SBBunny93but kpop still contained Korean lyrics so if its full English then they're wont really be an difference between kpop and pop. Why don't they try and stick to their culture like as an international fan I like Korean music kpop not POP.
@zodiacsign2895 who are you talking should stick to their culture?? Wasn't Kpop the one that is derived and inspired from another culture??? The thing is to sustain Kpop industry it needs to be marked outside of S.kKorea, as let me tell you only fandoms in S.Korea mostly listens kpop, not really the general public....so you want Kpop to be marketed in China....ohh our idols can't perform in the country, unless they literally are promoting there as a cop idol singing in Chinese.....also in Japan....are free to perform there....but ohhhh.....the also need to have multiple versions of their songs with Japanese lyrics to appeal to the public.....so in the US....why is it weird that the groups are adding more English languge to perform there???.....as more people are likely to catch on and relate to such songs, outside the fandom....same situation will be done as companies also have eyes on S. American market...the fact is Kpop has become more global and changes will be made to attract, or adapt to a certain audience preference...music is always changing...if not...we now would be rocking to jazz and blues from the 50s....
@@multistan9582 Yes but my point is that if Korean music became English only then that would really impact many fans like me. I know from the start that kpop was mixed with Western music but if it now interly changes then that would be an issue.
Losing the K in kpop is going to be a mistake. Its like losing its meaning, purpose, uniqueness, and all of your work & fans it atracted. Stop westernizing everything, in excess, it can do you harm. I really love the different feel of the kpop music, well old kpop.
He's really heavily pushing the westernization of Kpop and this will be the reason of it's downfall. People love kpop because it's different from regular pop so why try to imitate it this much...
This is the worst shift we as kpop stans can imagine. We were proud of being different from the western pop, we were happy being different from pop fans. The k netz are actually making sense for the first time- if he wants to take HYBE groups in that direction, sure he can go ahead. But he shouldn't take the entirety of kpop with him.
The thing is y'all aren't different from pop fans. Y'all aren't different from western pop. Kpop is pop just have its own touch along with being Korean. Litterally. Y'all act like y'all re so above pop fans when y'all aren't. Kpop been based off the west forever. Just before it was highly based off BLACK music like hip-hop, rnb, and rap. It was vulgar at moments. 1st and 2nd gen would give 4th gen stans a heart attack. We are not better. Do not shame other music genres base off a idea that kpop is so innocent and "not so vulgar like the west". Kpop IS vulgar as well. It have a vulgar side like the west. Kpop moves re vulgar. The west will say vulgar shit. And for fuck sake we are not better than pop fans we are the worst fandom next to dream stans
As a casual fan of Kpop music, the category has opened my life to Korean culture and the language, so I HOPE it doesn't lose its identity. Unlike Latin music, which share an equal notoriety (and sometimes a great unappreciation due to language barriers), have already originated within North America and has its own lifestyle. Korea is the next breakthrough country (defeating the likes of any powerhouse Asian/Eastern influence) of widespread, international phenomenon through its art and music. So again, I really HOPE they DON'T lose their meaning of origin.
Yes kpop is now losing its origin cause kpop is now changing into western and if that happens then Korean would lose their origin culture or so like sometimes when Koreans sing English songs I cant tell the difference between the Korean songs and western songs.
Calling K-Pop, Pop, is lame. Like K is for Korean. From Super Junior, Girls Generation, Bts, Stray Kids and everyone in between, the uniqueness of Kpop is the Korean factor language and uniqueness of it. Don’t change it.
@fimmie_kkura Musically is pop made in South Korea by Koreans in Korean, and it was in their origins. The only difference is a good embedding and implementation of the "idol" component that was originally from Japan. That implies the systematic trainning of of new teen candidates by entertainment companies.
Yes,it's not very vulgar which I personally like to be kept really low And also like how many groups don't wear too revealing clothes and do seggsualised stuff like twerking (it's just my preference)
The thing is kpop can and do have alot of vulgar moments. Especially og kpop like 1st and 2nd gen. The difference is kpop moves are vulgar while the west will say vulgar things but will just do twerking and that's it. It's not that different both you can avoid sexual stuff. It depends on what people want and like
It's still like that. Of course mainstream kpop aka more popular groups are going to be that way because they have to keep people interested and they have more Western fans. If people branched out and listen to less popular groups, they'll still see the kiddie side of kpop they all know and love
As a fan of HYBE artists, I disagree with what Bang PD said about K-pop. The name "K-pop" was chosen for a reason - it's music that is distinctly Korean and has its own unique style. Even RM wouldn't agree to taking away the individuality of K-pop by removing the 'K' or making songs completely in English. Of course, there have been times when K-pop has been westernized, but this shouldn't be taken as an invitation to erase its distinctiveness altogether.
What they don’t understand is that what makes k-pop so appealing to international audiences is PRECISELY the fact that it’s k-pop and not just pop. K-pop is such a refreshing break from the usual western pop we consume, and the fact that it came from a foreign country with a different culture, tradition and language made it even more appealing to so many people. I’m your average western girl that LOVES western girl groups (Flo, Little Mix, Pussycat Dolls, Destiny’s Child, etc), but I remember when I first came across a video of Twice, I was immediately drawn in by their family friendly/cutesy vibe and bubblegum pop sound. It was just so new and refreshing to me. Why the need to change?
It is true K-pop has unique vibes that make it different from Western pop music ..people like refreshing concepts I guess that was the reason why K-pop became so famous among youngsters especially . I personally like K-pop just because it doesn't repeat the same shit over and over again there are so many concepts ..It will be disappointing if they lose their originality and start following western culture..
I kind of stopped getting into K-pop after around 2018-2019. Things started becoming cookie cutter to me. I only came back to it 7 months ago because of Kai's cover of Rover song. Then I started getting into EXO and their live performance stages from 2013 and on. I have to say the difference for me was hearing the live, power vocal line, Chen, Baekhyun and especially for me D.O. I've never heard raw power with such soul RnB in K-pop before? I know I'm really late to the party and I have like 11+ years of EXO content to catch up on but I've always gravitated to live, RnB vocalists. Hopefully the next generation can produce more of this type of music. Because dancing hard with fireworks and lights are all fine. But for me nothing beats an acoustic, guitar, piano with, live, power, soulful vocals to command an audience.
Exo brought you back!🥹 nowadays I can't be a full fledge fan because of my post graduation, career hunt. But I know EXO is the only group that can bring me back whenever I will take break❤
Exo brought you back!🥹 nowadays I can't be a full fledge fan because of my post graduation, career hunt. But I know EXO is the only group that can bring me back whenever I will take break❤
You say you gravitate towards R&B vocalist, well you won't find many in the K-Pop world. You would have to literally look into Korean R&B for that. There's great artists like Dean, Crush, Bumkey, G Soul, Big Naughty, Sam Kim and Zion T just to name a few. That's not counting the lady's like Hoody, Suran, Meenoi, Heize, Devita, Moon Sujin and Sumin who also hold it down.
The only thing I know is that the agencies no longer want Korean groups, they die for Western validation, what a big mistake, the last thing I want is for idols and groups to be like Western ones.
Well, you can 'thank' Bighit for it. They started all this shit when hired an american PR agency for bts in 2016. Suckers for western validation and social media points.
I feel that this may be the down fall of hybe or maybe the entire kpop because the reason people loved kpop was because it was different, unique and not that sexual compared to western music . I hope they may change the decision they made
It's always been westernized going back to seo taiji and boys. The first generation of kpop music is evidence of this. It's just that most international fans started listening to kpop by the end of 2nd gen/beginning of 3rd gen.
@@LimonelgueyInfluenced and entirely changed into are two very different things. There’s K-pop that’s also influenced by Latino music etc., it’s still however kept its uniqueness and language
If Bang Si Hyuk is so bothered about making K-pop universal because it's " _about the music_ ", then the places his artists go on tour should reflect that. You don't gain global recognition by "rebranding" an entire industry, you do that by ACTUALLY touring worldwide and building a good rapport with people all around the world. Sure it would be good for KPOP to reach 100% global appeal, but it is absolutely USELESS to suggest such a change when you refuse to let artists tour the other half of the globe. It was never "about the music" to the begin with, they just want money.
I agree to some extent, am a big hybe Stan but his speech scares me. Seems like even after BTS(my ult) comes back, they'll continue with the English releases😢(some are good but still kinda boring after sometimes, meanwhile I'll never get enough of the DNA,micdrop, idol the list goes on)and yes it has always been about money
I want too. However most of agency, especially big agency don't want to hire Local producers like Sweetune, MonoTree, etc which this producers created a lot of song for 2ND gen. I personally don't blame company for that, that's how business work, right? It just KPop step by step lost their "Identity". Fortunately, SM has revived 2ND gen KPop concept through RIIZE and I personally hope there's more Idol (especially new rookie Idol) used the 2ND gen concept too. Let's pray for it 🤲🏻
If k-pop songs become more westernized , the k-pop fans escpecially korean fans , they will be dissapointed or even mad. The korean lyrics is what makes k-pop different from the west. In a few years , if most k-pop songs are fully in English, people will lose their love for it and will be a big mistake. I don't really want to bring other countries into this but, listen to the c-pop and j-pop etc. songs, their songs are mostly in their country's language.
I agree. I turned away from western music and love the korean pop vibe. Lately it's all become boring and westernised though... so I guess I better start researching a different music genre
Same! I've been listening to them alot recently. Miss A, Shinee, 2PM, Girls Day etc had alot of nice concepts and depth into their music. It wasn't as mass produced and westernized as it is now. I've literally seen knetz say on Mvaer that Blackswan is more kpop than alot of groups lately
I always look at enlistment as like when a sports athlete gets injured and someone is pulled up to fill their spot. These groups have a chance to make an impact while the injured player is out. So it’ll be interesting to see who can thrive in that environment. And even if they get bigger concert venues, Korean concerts would still be the most boring shows. Don’t sing, don’t dance, just sit or stand there and wave their light sticks in an orderly fashion. But here’s the thing about the losing the k (or not) in kpop. No matter what they do, some people just aren’t gonna check out these groups coming out of Korea. Like yeah, sure, someone releases an album and performs a song on the today show. That song may get a boost by the inter crowd, but 99% of them won’t check out the album. Even Monsta X’s first English album that still attracts international listeners… a lot of them aren’t checking out their Korean albums. So unless they’re just gonna sing in English… keep the k in kpop and thrive in that. People like Bang PD are going to be the reason kpop dies in the west.
Your second paragraph is Hella shady. I honestly don't know who it was that fed international fans this level of delusion that has resulted in this disgusting elitism
Seriously, I would love to attention such a boring Korean or imagine how boring Japanese show. No one screaming into your ear for the whole concert, no one leaving their seat because they think they are special, and the idols being able to actually come close to fans because they don't have to fear they get ripped apart in the crowd. But I'm happy I won't see you there, since you think these concerts are boring 😊 enjoy your "I want my y/n moment"-crowd and try to survive
Your second paragraph shows that you've never been to a kpop concert before lol... at least watch them in UA-cam before you run your mouth with baseless conclusions *kpop hater*
What I’m worried about are more ballad like kpop songs, lyrical songs. Because most english kpop songs are rhythmic and catchy with repeatable lyrics (not that’s they are all bad, I like many of them, but some are just uninteresting) and kpop ballads often have deeper meanings or structure that would be difficult to translate (for it to sound good and hold similar meaning).
Absolutely agree. Hired local producers like Sweetune, MonoTree, etc. Not forced for that, at least bring KPop 2ND gen concept back. Fortunately we can see that from RIIZE and I hope more Idol (especially rookie Idol now) used 2ND gen concept.
I think the best thing they can do to spread the popularity of Kpop in the US is just tour to more states instead of just performing in the usual (LA, Chicago, NY). And doing fanmeets here would be even more awesome
I don't think kpop needs to be pushed to be westernized more cuz in the last years kpop has already dominated the world charts. Bts already proved as a huge group and other groups also are constantly being recognized in western market and award shows. I agree with everyone that say kpop is good on its on with korea being the base of it. I too wouldn't like it as much if they desperately try to shove it into western music industry
Bang PD aims to increase revenue by broadening global reach, potentially risking the authenticity of K-Pop. The genre's appeal lies in its clean, non-explicit lyrics and dedication showcased by artists in their music, dances, and performances. Despite this, the focus seems to shift towards financial gains, which is disheartening for fans. In the end, it appears that the primary objective is to increase their profits. Very Disappointed!
What is sad for them is that this will not increase their profits. The uniqueness of K-pop is why it is so popular. If it becomes just the same as Western music, there is no reason to seek it out. Western fans will just save ourselves some hassel and watch Western groups.
I totally agree with both of you. It seems like after capturing the global market, they might increase their revenue but may be not for long. Yes, that’s the whole point that they will lose their originality of K-Pop. Western pop music has become so redundant and explicit in all aspects that it has become absolutely rubbish.
ermmm clean have you understood some of the lyric's of Kpop songs have you seen the way they put girls in clothes that don't leave much to the imagination and I'm talking young girls, have seen the sexual moves they make it's just a blantant as it is with American artists. Stop fooling yourselves.
What is really needed is different concepts that is uniquely Korean. Example: what Dreamcatcher has done by infusing rock, metal into Kpop. G-Idle bringing a bit of punk rock and rare species of an all girl rock band like Rolling Quartz. We also need more talented vocal groups and not just eye candy. Also how about a massive proper music festivals like Big Day Out, Coachella or that matter Woodstock but uniquely Korean. You can even beam live online as a pay per view. Also a show to highlight self made, self formed groups, that will be interesting. Anyway dropping the K from Kpop is a bad idea and this is coming from a non Korean fan like me. Also i do not understand the language but the songs are still pleasant to listen to.
Lets give applause to EXO who have been giving us quality KPOP music since 2012 non stop. Hopefully they will continue to produce music in 2024 as well.
Lol same as Stray kids while this dumbo want to make everything in english Skz boys are starting to use hangul and chinese symbols in their title track they said nope not gonna go to that route
i don't think that he realizes that if he removed the k from kpop, every single group would compete in a regular pop category... that category has a huge competition, such as lady gaga, taylor swift, harry styles, ariana grande and much more.. not a single award would ever go to a kpop group in that category
He doesnt understand that we have afrobeats latin and kpop if we took away the african and latin part and made everything pop would that make sense like taking korean from kpop to be pop its lost of identity culture and language
As an American multi-stan, I hope to gawd that KPop doesn't turn into western pop. Yes, I love when groups sing in English or provide a few songs that appeal to the western market, but these groups are talented artists who deserve to be loved for their own unique flavor. That's what drew me to the genre in the first place. Also, although my ults' times away because of the military are hard to get through, I don't think that being exempt from service would be the best thing for them. I understand that those who don't serve can be looked upon harshly by some of Korea's citizens who resent the favoritism. There should, however, be special accommodations for idols, who have to suffer from severe invasions of privacy and decency.
Nooooooo as a Westerner (United States specifically ) that is not a good idea!!!!! I feel in love with K-Pop because of its uniqueness!!!!! He's making a mistake of removing "K" from K-Pop! that's the main reason why I am a fan 🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧
I just want their lead songs to have an English version to sing & rap along with. Help them get pop radio play. They can still have a full Korean album & keep their style. They don't have to Americanize their sound. Aespa "Spicy" Ive "Love Dive" & others would definitely get radio play if an English version was available. The English versions should be extra tracks on the USA release cd, not a digital download only.
Agreed. Nct made quite a few English versions, while still having their Korean versions for fans who want to listen to it more authentically. I prefer the Korean ones, even though I'm a western fan.
They'll still have problem's getting radio air play in the USA unless their kpop company is willing to play the American game eg pay the US radio stations to play their songs. It's illegal btw but that's what happens in the US and has been widely reported on a number of time's with people being caught doing this illegal activity. Do you want you groups to be caught up in illegal activties? There are still a few independent radio stations left in parts of the US that if heavily requested might play your artist song a few times but won't amount to much. Sorry to bring the bad news.
The thing is many people are not thinking about what Bang state about removing K from Kpop....for me that isnt of the literal sense but more metaphorally...He wants Kpop to break the barriers of just ( being the niche thing that many persons say kpop is) and promote themselves to appeal to more than just fans within the music industry. ( music sounds is ever changing and many dont understand that Kpop will change also, and has being changing for awhile now. Im sure the groups now dont have the same sound as the 1st and 2nd gen....all music changes to keep up with the change of times and audiences).... What Bangs suggest, it doesnt mean everyone will have to agree..( he clearly states in past interviews he beieves in democracy)...so everyone have their own voices, are allowed to speak it and make their own suggestions and decisions. But if this route that he speaks of eventually becomes successful if its realised by Hybe....hope I dont see other fandoms bring them down, for having a more Global outreach and presents when their group's and artist are dominating International charts. He says this as many in the Industry still dont take Kpop serious as a legitimate genre and like it or not, Western validation is the most highest form of musical recognition an artist can have as thats where the money is and higest recognited musical awards are....many Kpop fans are locked in their own minds and dont understand the business aspect of it.... What they dont understand is many of their said group's are dying for such validation....If a Kpop group gets a Grammy win for example...who are bigger than their group??? Lol.....the pride that will burst...yet they claim they dont need western validation.... Kpop entity except its Language is all Western to begin with.
Fans love kpop for what it is. Pushing it to a different direction may be beneficial for some but for the whole of kpop???...it wouldn't be pop without the k. Branding it as Korean rather than just pop is essential for them to reach a wider audience and having other people appreciate what Korea and Korean is. KPop is as it is because of the labor put in by the older generation. Bang and other companies may be thinking more of bringing home the money rather than having to share the real talents of their artists. Having to disregard the welfare of their artists too such as overworking them, having multiple comebacks each year and so on will actually harm the artists rather than having to showcase their talents. INVEST in your artists. Show everyone what they got rather than having to let them sing beyond or under what they are capable of. Look at the older generations...they might have lost some members or have gone on to do solos but they are still legendary. Artists now still look up to them. Why? Because they get to see longevity in their chosen careers while having to enjoy it.
I think South Korea building an arena for concerts/events etc is a great idea. We do it all the time in America it helps bring in revenue to whatever state or city that it’s in. It also creates job opportunities as well as business opportunities. This could also open up the chance to host big sporting events such as nba, nfl, ufc, boxing, soccer etc. It could even bring more western artist to perform there when going on tour. But the most important thing is that South Korea gets more recognition and could very well boost the economy.
Bts only has 3 English songs! Look at now 4th 5th gen! They have alot of English music and also their songs have more English lines! Stop blaming bts, bts got western validations with their korean songs!
DO NOT WESTERNIZE KPOP ANYMORE THAN IT ALREADY IS!!! Why are they trying to kill it? There is a reason I dont listen to American music and it is because it is vulgar, nothing but drugs and sex, at least KPop puts the POETRY back in their music even with themes on sex. That is why I love it.
I started as a kpop stan three years ago, I started stanning BECAUSE of the k in kpop. It's different from music, music videos, etc in the west. I don't want kpop to lose it's identity, otherwise it will become redundant and boring REAL fast.
Kpop had a uniqueness to it that got to me because I couldn't stand how oversexualized most of the western songs were. I've noticed that since it became global, it has lost abit of it's touch and hopefully it does not lose that unique vibe that makes us love it sooo much.
I was a K-pop Stan from 2015ish to (late)2018 (precisely till the time red velvet was promoting really bad boy and all) after that I gradually grew out of it and the thing is even the 4th gen did not interest me so much that I would focus on them either on the music or the variety pov and the thing is since 2020 I have only been looking forward to the comebacks of 2 groups LITERALLY JUST 2 (those being red velvet and seventeen) other than that none… army’s bashed me whenever I expressed my (PERSONAL) dislike towards Bts’s newer releases and some of their solos and about how problematic the K-pop scene had become (not saying that it wasn’t before, oh we all the the shi that happened back during burning sun and all that crap man but now the amount of idols leaving groups and the consistency of music is so disturbed that it isn’t having people (atleast me) hooked anymore!!) And now they are talking about completely mainstreaming it and making it POP (removing the literal Korean from itt !!!?!) honestly I have seen this coming from the time when BTS had consistently started releasing fully English songs [do not think I am targeting bts here I am not I love the boys and they’re cool and all but y’all need to understand that whatever they do influences 90%of the whole industry] But yea anyways now I am reduced to a casual listener that too only for some groups and honestly I do not care for the newer groups anymore haha That was my opinion nothing else… Feel free to tell me yours :)
If they think changing KPOP to POP would earn them Grammys etc in the west, it won't. The music will still be identify as KPOP due to their distinct culture and identity by language. What they have to try is letting the music awards in the west recognizing that distinction and letting them have a seat at the table. You can't put kpop into a pop category with top notch artist its going to fail. You have to have a category for only kpop just like they have country music, afrobeats music etc. That should be their focus. Get the awards to notice kpop as a genre itself cause it is.
Thats what michael jackson did when they didnt want black artist on mtv he broke the mold so other black artist could be on mtv he open door for that with hes songs and music like thriller billie jean i think kpop can do the same the latin and afrobeats are doing it takes time but at the end of the day when they do win a grammy will it be just pop it doesnt mean anything but korean in kpop stand for something like latin music take away spanish language what is it then just pop no language identity culture
So many kpop fans turned to kpop because it's different from the western music, not only the language, but the attitude, the content, the visuals, fan oriented vibe in general, why oh why these wealthy producers only think about short hand success in the west and don't see the eventual and inevitable downfall in its popularity if k is dropped off??
They can do both…K-pop and pop …depending of the company, depending of the groups….a group can make some songs in K-pop style and some songs just pop style….freedom of expression is what can work…never stop K-pop genre because that was and still is bringing fans to love and support 💜
I really like their direction on this Especially there is P-POP (Philippine Pop), J-POP (Japanese Pop), T-POP (Thailand Pop) and so much more…(I-POP,M-POP,C-POP) Tbh im just excited to see these kinds of groups since I watched so many types of Asian Pops already
Bang Si-hyuk thinks that making Kpop more international will help it grow more than if it stayed more korean. But growth isn't necessarily what Kpop needs. Kpop is already big enough and I think we should focus on fixing the issues within kpop before trying to make it more global. Also, most Armies and Blinks have experienced the insane growth of Bts and Blackpink, and prefer both groups before they got so famous. I think if the K is removed from KPOP, then people won't like it that much anymore.
He's not realizing that removing the K from Kpop won't help the genre grow, it'll be removing it and making it just pop. Kpop will no longer be in any category because it'll no longer exist
Kpop is so special because of the K, without it the difference b/w pop and kpop music will only be the songs and groups, the name will no longer have any influence or interest as Kpop did. The amount of attention, negative or positive will decrease, decreasing the demand of korean music. I being a average term fan of this genre of music think this opinion is absurd and that the CEO of HYBE should be empowering the K in Kpop rather than shading it.
The way hybe is pushing every artist for western validation is scary like they are obsessed with making another group like bts so that when bts disbands or something like that happens, they don't fall short of money That's why I'm not a fan of hybe groups except enhypen and svt
But that's exactly the point.BTS was his golden goose that built him an empire beyond his wildest dreams, which also gave him power. Now,if they enlist, what happened to Big Bang might likely happen to BTS.Which means revenue shrinks and he'll have to look somewhere, somehow to maintain the momentum and appease investors as well
@@neinei697 I really don't think what happened with BigBang will happen with BTS. BTS has a much bigger worldwide fanbase compared to BigBang. Diehard fans aren't going anywhere in the next 2 years. BTS first tour after their military service is going to be huge.
@@crystalsnow1138 We'll see.A lot changes in 6 months let alone 2 years, especially in the entertainment industry.Even the actors involved change too -but we'll see
I love K-Pop, cause it’s Korean, it’s different, it’s not English, I want K-Pop to stay K-Pop and not to be westernised. This feels a bit like K-Pop is trying to adjust to the mainstream, it feels like the situation where you are told to be yourself and not to be like others, if some of you know what I mean 🥺 I don’t want kpop to be westernised I want people to love (or hate) kpop for what kpop is 🫶🏻🫶🏻( 5:15 )
I have loved K-pop because it's different from my industry bollywood and hollywood... because I can see real lyrics ,real choreography ,real performance ,diverse performance, beautiful different outfits (which complete the purpose of clothes..sexy to sexy ,cute to cute, classy to classy , feminine to feminine and not getting confused in sensual and vulgarity.) For that I follow kpop ..but they ruining it and turning in westenri from which people actually run to find some genuine talent without adulteration of shallowness..but they ruin it...
They need to leave the k alone. Several reasons, I became a kpop fan one of those was non English language, not as lazy mv or lyrics more emotional songs. I find English songs largely, repetitive which annoys me right up their with edm. Mostly English, songs can stop being trendy I don't see Spanish singers getting rid of Spanish in their songs to capitalize on money over fan and national prestige of language.
I think it's a given if the S.K music industry need to survive. There's a population and economic decline in S.K. China, K-pop 3rd biggest market has banned K-pop. If Japan, their 2nd market did the same they are in a very big trouble. The market is relatively small with all the big label only contributing to around 2% of global music sales, and there's a lot of new groups of idols popping up everywhere. The competition is getting fiercer and the market is stagnant or shrinking. Just as country pop, afro pop, indie pop and many other pop subgenre considered as pop, K-pop losing the K probably won't be a bad thing unless they lose their identity in their art styles.
Korea need bigger venues for my selfish reasons, I saw two concerts from 2ne1 and Kara in Tokyo with 50,000 screaming fans. There was nothing that crazy 'i've experienced in kpop.
i dont want kpop to be westernized, i dont want all english lyrics, i want the K in kpop, i want it to be unique and KPOP. KOREAN POP. if u try to appeal to western market regular kpop fans are gonna go away.....
Listen, if kpop got globally famous it’s because people like “K-pop”. If you change Kpop into Korean people doing international pop music that’s not kpop anymore. Kpop is a whole different world and there is a reason for having two distinct fandoms for western pop and kpop. If kpop turns into pop it will loose all of its unicity and honestly I would stop listening to the groups. I’d loose all the creative and “KPOP” things that I love the most and that the current WIDE fandom likes.
If the chairman of HYBE wants to promote worldwide, then he can create something separate of K-pop, not try to replace K-pop. Both can exist, both already do exist. Western pop is a thing.... and there's a reason why i choose to listen to K-pop instead of that.
If they want to erase K words from Kpop and focus on english lyrics instead Korean lyrics for international Marketing Whats the purpose of foreign kpop idol/trainees learnt Korean language so hard from start?
But let them not recycle the western choreos and music beats....so far, we have noticed many doing so, and their song beats can easily be noticed that it's similar to a Western artiste's song ....I also don't agree with a removal of K from kpop ,why is he so obsessed with the Western world?
Im extremely convinced almost nobody knows what it was like in the late 90s - early 2000s at all. Kpop has barely touched Y2K at all musically or visually and people just throw the term at whatever they do
bang shi hyuk statement of saying tha k should be removed from kpop is a very wrong statement of him.local audience was attracted to bts and other groups because of its uniqueness and it had no vulgar lyrics or mv's and also the music sound very different from what we hear typically in pop.but now if you see kpop is not kpoping anymore like we used hear and see kpop because it has no vulgarity but now kpop idols and groups just go crazy in concerts in us (not in korea you know why) and do vulgar dance in name sexy.kpop is becoming pop nowdays everyone is focused on billboard charts and grammy award notin mama award or melon chart.it is true that it has mostly become pop but it still k shoudnt be removed from kpop.every kpop idol ,group is trying hard to become a popstar but they cant understand western industry will never accept them and always say KPOP infront of their name.just take jk as an example he is trying very hard to become a pop star and also saying a pop star to hisself, but he will always be a kpop idol and pop industry might compliment him but will always say a "kpop artist jk" to him.
Kpop has long gone western now, the music is still successful, they are Korean Artists but it doesn't matter what language they want to sing in. They should not be limited
Two new groups that I feel like are trying different things with their music is Kiss of Life (girl group) and P1harmony (boys group). Check out Nobody Knows from the girl group and Pyramid from the boy group. They're bangers
LITERALLY my 2 Ult Groups THANK YOU !! I care about Singing ability which they have and they have unique and distinct styles to their discographies P1's whole discography slaps
As a hard core K-pop Stan…They need to STOP WESTERNIZING THE K-INDUSTRY!!! We like K-pop because it’s different from regular Pop. And it’s good to be different from everything else because being different is what makes it unique. I’m starting a NEW HASHTAG #StopWesternizingKpop

One thing that needs to change is the plagiarization of old American songs. If you do your research ...there are a lot of kpop songs copied from very, very old rap, hip hop, rock and other songs.
I totally understand and agrees with opinions and opportunities too, but listening former member’s music idols in militaries groups, that’s frustrating, opinions don’t have opportunities for different solutions.
Imo, without the k in kpop, the industry is gonna flop, we already have pop and the way kpop used to be was refreshing .the excitement when they added some English lyrics or the weird concepts and the language itself is fascinating. If they change it I don't think I'll be able to listen to it because what's the point when it's literally pop?
Bang PD might be talking about the fact that western award shows seem to create silly categories for Kpop and maybe if it is promoted as Pop they might be nominated along side the western acts instead of against each other. I agree that many international fans, myself included got interested in Kpop because it is unique, plus western music had become a turn off. But we have to admit radio play for Kpop songs especially if it is not an English song is sometimes limited , hence people like Azaelia Banks ( and she may not be the only one that feels that way) would rather not listen to music they apparently can't understand dispite music being a universal language. We also know it is about money for these companies. He doesn't own kpop but he is still a big player in it and he isn't the only company trying for western/ universal appeal for his artists. But as they say time will tell.
I just know that I'm in the U.S. and I've only recently heard a few times (less than I can count on one hand) ANY song even by BTS on public radio. Those who are at top of the charts in sales, aren't being played on U.S. radio stations much even if the songs are in all English. In grocery stores recently, I've heard Butter 2x and Permission to Dance 1x. These songs came out 2-3 years ago (approx) and are in all English, and I am just now starting to hear them occasionally. I think Bang PD is trying to break through to get radio play and recognition for that talent that exists in Korea, as K-Pop is viewed as a genre and Not as an industry that encompasses many genres and loads of talent. It's sad really how much effort has to go into that. One other comment is that there are many countries, not just the US, who really would like more English songs as that is, at the moment, the most universal language across the world. So don't be too hard on him or any artists who make songs in all English, in order to get more air time.
@@kaylabunnie5283 the thing there so many great group and artist even in west dont get grammy and are ok with it why does bighit need a grammy to prove what exactly that we are great
@@lisacu134t6y As much as Bang PD insists on dropping the "k" from kpop we are still dealing with Korea here. Notice how most Koreans don't accept HYBE as legendary as they do JYP, SM and YG; in fact many seem offended when people talk about the "big 4" because to them HYBE is nothing special--just a large company with lots of money. To be first to snag a Grammy would definitely make them legendary and would legitimize the whole "pave the way" argument without doubt. Their culture seems to value certain accomplishments more than revenue earned and BTS/Army chose the accomplishments (Grammy/Super Bowl = conquered the west). Should an artist not associated with HYBE achieve those accomplishments...well that label would instantly become legendary and celebrated in Korea while HYBE will get the pat on the back and told how they were not up to the task. This is about legacy and prestige which is the real measure of greatness in Korea.
He is a Korean also isn’t he? Removing the k from kpop will be the biggest downfall I swear. People love kpop the way it is. While western pop is full of vulgar and has a lot of swearing words, kpop is like a breath of fresh air. Don’t forget the root of kpop. Kpop made its success by its own charm. So people will definitely not like the westernised pop. I hope he applies his mindset only towards the groups under hybe not the whole kpop. I hope bts avoids this too. Losing own identity won’t benefit. People nowadays are really interested in Korean culture, language, foods etc. for kpop. Using English lyrics for westernising it will bring nothing good
It's called kpop because it's KOREAN POP. Don't care what anyone says. It's still going to be kpop to me no matter what. Y'all want western validation so bad!
how can they even take away what makes kpop so special? so many ppl, including me found kpop because of the difference it has to western pop, it really would ruin the genre if it gets put in with the rest of pop.
K pop is more than a song that is just sung in Korean, K-pop is influenced by many styles of music mixed its own special way and that's what drew me into K-pop in the first place. I wouldn't call a latin inspired Kpop song, latin pop just because its influenced by it.
The reason I gave up on mainstream western pop is because of how much was stripped away over the years. No more harmonies (likely because there's only 1 or 2 pop groups active). No more choreo or live singing (and if it is live, it's either lipsynced or the artist just walks around pointing the mic at the crowd). Hyper-repetitive chorus where it's just one phrase over and over. Same old chord progressions, overly simplistic beats, melody pretty much being the exact same between verses/pre-chorus/chorus. The reason I got into KPop is because they kept up the standards on the musical and performance side across the board. Seeing it move in the homogenized western direction would be sad
i did not mention vulgarity. At all. Al;so it has been inspired by the west but has preserved a lot of the things the west has largely abandoned (again, groups, harmonies, etc)@@thegoldendeffodils
Absolutely ridiculous idea, but also if HYBE wants to turn into fully American market they better keep in mind that a lot of their behaviors might not cut it. Child labor and sexualization of minors won’t sit well with west public. Even if this issues are also very engraved in Hollywood, bluntly and openly participating in it is usually very heavily criticized. US market has a lot of issues with it as well, but in kinda different way than in K-pop. Being so open with it might not cut it. Especially in these times.
everything that made kpop unique is being westernised and i’m not here for it
Americanised or westernised?

It's time for change
Kpop will be Pop Idol
K-pop’s birth literally came from westernization this was literally inevitable
G DRAGON THE KING ,,,
He's really heavily pushing the westernization of Kpop and this will be the reason of it's downfall. People love kpop because it's different from regular pop so why try to imitate it this much...
This.
exactly
That's nonsense it's always been westernized. It's always been unabashedly derivative that's what makes it good.
if they do that, I quit listening to kpop
k-pop has always been westernized since seo taiji and boys
This is the worst shift we as kpop stans can imagine. We were proud of being different from the western pop, we were happy being different from pop fans. The k netz are actually making sense for the first time- if he wants to take HYBE groups in that direction, sure he can go ahead. But he shouldn't take the entirety of kpop with him.
100% agree!
agree, i started listening to kpop because it was something totally different, kpop has always been westernized but i hope it won't go this way
10000% this is an ultimate true Fact 👍
Even if only Hybe goes through westernization, other groups and their companies will follow trends anyway.
Exactly. If it aint broke, why fix it? If I wanted to listen to crappy Western style music, Id listen to crappy Western style music.
It’s not tho, Kpop is pop, Just in Korean. K-pop is normal pop to Koreans.
@multilove6723 listen to Sorry Sorry and Gee and tell me what pop song has that vibe.
@fimmie_kkura Musically is pop made in South Korea by Koreans in Korean, and it was in their origins. The only difference is a good embedding and implementation of the "idol" component that was originally from Japan. That implies the systematic trainning of of new teen candidates by entertainment companies.
I mean, if I want to listen to pop then I'll just listen to taylor swift. Kpop is enjoyable because it's not in English entire.
I strongly agree! I became a fan of Kpop specifically because it’s refreshingly different from western music, and not as raunchy & vulgar.
Yes,it's not very vulgar which I personally like to be kept really low
And also like how many groups don't wear too revealing clothes and do seggsualised stuff like twerking (it's just my preference)
YES! Exactly! Kpop has class that Western music lacks!
The thing is kpop can and do have alot of vulgar moments. Especially og kpop like 1st and 2nd gen. The difference is kpop moves are vulgar while the west will say vulgar things but will just do twerking and that's it. It's not that different both you can avoid sexual stuff. It depends on what people want and like
Same 😊
It's still like that.
Of course, there have been times when K-pop has been westernized, but this shouldn't be taken as an invitation to erase its distinctiveness altogether.
exacto
How many English songs under BTS?
Because they wanna follow into American shit music . Looks like they wanna follow in the footsteps of cardi be and all those raunchy rappers

If k-pop songs become more westernized , the k-pop fans escpecially korean fans , they will be dissapointed or even mad. The korean lyrics is what makes k-pop different from the west. SM is the only company that know how to push kpop as a kpop, without westernize it ..

I think the best thing they can do to spread the popularity of Kpop in the US is just tour to more states instead of just performing in the usual (LA, Chicago, NY). And doing fanmeets here would be even more awesome
There's a reason why Suga's Daechwita is a hit song. Because of its Korean melody and vibe.
Hopefully Bang pd sees all the backlash...I completely disagree, leave Kpop as is....

Hopefully they will continue to produce music in 2024 as well.

i don't think that he realizes that if he removed the k from kpop, every single group would compete in a regular pop category... that category has a huge competition, such as lady gaga, taylor swift, harry styles, ariana grande and much more.. not a single award would ever go to a kpop group in that category
He doesnt understand that we have afrobeats latin and kpop if we took away the african and latin part and made everything pop would that make sense like taking korean from kpop to be pop its lost of identity culture and language
Ok but i really love and will love the 3gen time of kpop
I love Kpop because of the uniqueness that attracted me. Changing it would make it loose its spark. Sometimes not everything should be the same.🤷♀️
As an American multi-stan, I hope to gawd that KPop doesn't turn into western pop.
Just give us English subtitles in every content and we will be happy, music can stay as it is !

I just want their lead songs to have an English version to sing & rap along with. Help them get pop radio play. They can still have a full Korean album & keep their style. They don't have to Americanize their sound. Aespa "Spicy" Ive "Love Dive" & others would definitely get radio play if an English version was available. The English versions should be extra tracks on the USA release cd, not a digital download only.
yeah that’s a good alternative imo
Agreed. Nct made quite a few English versions, while still having their Korean versions for fans who want to listen to it more authentically. I prefer the Korean ones, even though I'm a western fan.
@@bluewolf2708 same
I agree. I'd rather have an English version of a group's Korean title track, than an original English song (which usually tends to be subpar).
WE LOVED KPOP NOT POP yes they may be similar in some ways but Kpop is KPOP.
Why is he trying to whitewash Kpop…. Just because a group isn’t BTS doesn’t mean they aren’t successful. Like why is BTS the standard…..
Right!
Bts only has 3 English songs! Look at now 4th 5th gen! They have alot of English music and also their songs have more English lines! Stop blaming bts, bts got western validations with their korean songs!
K-Pop is slowly just becoming Pop.
I dont understand!? Why do some pepole feel the need to change kpop? it is amazing as it is! and I dont want any changes!!!!!!!!!😢
Nothing stay the same when it does it stagnates gets old and beings to stink.
The K in K-Pop makes it Special. It shows the people where this genere come from.
I started as a kpop stan three years ago, I started stanning BECAUSE of the k in kpop. It's different from music, music videos, etc in the west. I don't want kpop to lose it's identity, otherwise it will become redundant and boring REAL fast.
kpops identity is literally african american music + jpop idol system
The k doesn't need to be removed😕. It is not even necessary
Kpop had a uniqueness to it that got to me because I couldn't stand how oversexualized most of the western songs were. I've noticed that since it became global, it has lost abit of it's touch and hopefully it does not lose that unique vibe that makes us love it sooo much.
I was a K-pop Stan from 2015ish to (late)2018 (precisely till the time red velvet was promoting really bad boy and all) after that I gradually grew out of it and the thing is even the 4th gen did not interest me so much that I would focus on them either on the music or the variety pov and the thing is since 2020 I have only been looking forward to the comebacks of 2 groups LITERALLY JUST 2 (those being red velvet and seventeen) other than that none… army’s bashed me whenever I expressed my (PERSONAL) dislike towards Bts’s newer releases and some of their solos and about how problematic the K-pop scene had become (not saying that it wasn’t before, oh we all the the shi that happened back during burning sun and all that crap man but now the amount of idols leaving groups and the consistency of music is so disturbed that it isn’t having people (atleast me) hooked anymore!!)
And now they are talking about completely mainstreaming it and making it POP (removing the literal Korean from itt !!!?!) honestly I have seen this coming from the time when BTS had consistently started releasing fully English songs
[do not think I am targeting bts here I am not I love the boys and they’re cool and all but y’all need to understand that whatever they do influences 90%of the whole industry]
But yea anyways now I am reduced to a casual listener that too only for some groups and honestly I do not care for the newer groups anymore haha
That was my opinion nothing else…
Feel free to tell me yours :)
@@lisacu134t6y So true 👍
So many kpop fans turned to kpop because it's different from the western music, not only the language, but the attitude, the content, the visuals, fan oriented vibe in general, why oh why these wealthy producers only think about short hand success in the west and don't see the eventual and inevitable downfall in its popularity if k is dropped off??
They can do both…K-pop and pop …depending of the company, depending of the groups….a group can make some songs in K-pop style and some songs just pop style….freedom of expression is what can work…never stop K-pop genre because that was and still is bringing fans to love and support 💜
I love how 4th gen is FULL of AMAZING girl groups😩💕✨💕✨
They’re going to lead the k-pop world for years to come, and I’m here for it🥰💞✨
I really like their direction on this
Especially there is P-POP (Philippine Pop), J-POP (Japanese Pop), T-POP (Thailand Pop) and so much more…(I-POP,M-POP,C-POP)
Tbh im just excited to see these kinds of groups since I watched so many types of Asian Pops already
@@LovelyKissess exactly
I agree that keep the K in K-Pop. Over here in the US that is why the fans have gotten into K-Pop.
The way hybe is pushing every artist for western validation is scary like they are obsessed with making another group like bts so that when bts disbands or something like that happens, they don't fall short of money
That's why I'm not a fan of hybe groups except enhypen and svt

I love K-Pop, cause it’s Korean, it’s different, it’s not English, I want K-Pop to stay K-Pop and not to be westernised. This feels a bit like K-Pop is trying to adjust to the mainstream, it feels like the situation where you are told to be yourself and not to be like others, if some of you know what I mean 🥺 I don’t want kpop to be westernised I want people to love (or hate) kpop for what kpop is 🫶🏻🫶🏻( 5:15 )
K-Pop cannot be K-Pop without the K in it.
They SLAY
If they want to erase K words from Kpop and focus on english lyrics instead Korean lyrics for international Marketing
Whats the purpose of foreign kpop idol/trainees learnt Korean language so hard from start?
He's really trying to westernize kpop so bad 💀💀 this will be the reason for its downfall honestly
He wants that Grammy.
His ego knows no bounds
Real tbh
But let them not recycle the western choreos and music beats....so far, we have noticed many doing so, and their song beats can easily be noticed that it's similar to a Western artiste's song ....I also don't agree with a removal of K from kpop ,why is he so obsessed with the Western world?
The primary objective has always been money.
Lift up the veil for what is, emotional manipulation tied to parasocial relationships.
Im extremely convinced almost nobody knows what it was like in the late 90s - early 2000s at all. Kpop has barely touched Y2K at all musically or visually and people just throw the term at whatever they do
bang shi hyuk statement of saying tha k should be removed from kpop is a very wrong statement of him.local audience was attracted to bts and other groups because of its uniqueness and it had no vulgar lyrics or mv's and also the music sound very different from what we hear typically in pop.but now if you see kpop is not kpoping anymore like we used hear and see kpop because it has no vulgarity but now kpop idols and groups just go crazy in concerts in us (not in korea you know why) and do vulgar dance in name sexy.kpop is becoming pop nowdays everyone is focused on billboard charts and grammy award notin mama award or melon chart.it is true that it has mostly become pop but it still k shoudnt be removed from kpop.every kpop idol ,group is trying hard to become a popstar but they cant understand western industry will never accept them and always say KPOP infront of their name.just take jk as an example he is trying very hard to become a pop star and also saying a pop star to hisself, but he will always be a kpop idol and pop industry might compliment him but will always say a "kpop artist jk" to him.
he was referring to the USA making kpop catorgories to keep Kpop artist out of the main catorgories
Kpop has long gone western now, the music is still successful, they are Korean Artists but it doesn't matter what language they want to sing in. They should not be limited
newbie kpop fans ruining everything
How about dropping Bang Si Hyuk from HYBE in 2024?
Without K-pop, there is no Bighit/HYBE.
Two new groups that I feel like are trying different things with their music is Kiss of Life (girl group) and P1harmony (boys group). Check out Nobody Knows from the girl group and Pyramid from the boy group. They're bangers
Omg I love those groups. P1harmony had bops since debut.
LITERALLY my 2 Ult Groups THANK YOU !! I care about Singing ability which they have and they have unique and distinct styles to their discographies P1's whole discography slaps

One thing that needs to change is the plagiarization of old American songs. If you do your research ...there are a lot of kpop songs copied from very, very old rap, hip hop, rock and other songs.
I agree with rm of what the k means in kpop and kpop is honestly losing quality (idk if that make sense)
I totally understand and agrees with opinions and opportunities too, but listening former member’s music idols in militaries groups, that’s frustrating, opinions don’t have opportunities for different solutions.
I’ll leave Kpop if K is removed. I specifically became a fan because of its unique pop culture.
I became a K-pop fan specifically because it WASN'T like western pop. Please don't change.
This is the example of Bang PD being greedy for money. By doing this, it loses all of its artistic integrity and becomes songs that are boring.
In other words, Big Hit wants that Grammy and will do anything to get it!
@@kaylabunnie5283 but grammy isn't only limited to English artists but others also?
I just got into K pop this year so this is all so new to me
He is a Korean also isn’t he? Removing the k from kpop will be the biggest downfall I swear. People love kpop the way it is. While western pop is full of vulgar and has a lot of swearing words, kpop is like a breath of fresh air. Don’t forget the root of kpop. Kpop made its success by its own charm. So people will definitely not like the westernised pop. I hope he applies his mindset only towards the groups under hybe not the whole kpop. I hope bts avoids this too. Losing own identity won’t benefit. People nowadays are really interested in Korean culture, language, foods etc. for kpop. Using English lyrics for westernising it will bring nothing good
I’m from Australia don’t change k pop I like it the way it is❤️
Ty for the news!❤
I do not want K-pop to be westernized. That’s the entire reason why I love K-pop.
It's called kpop because it's KOREAN POP. Don't care what anyone says. It's still going to be kpop to me no matter what. Y'all want western validation so bad!
We are never going to change our K-pop
how can they even take away what makes kpop so special? so many ppl, including me found kpop because of the difference it has to western pop, it really would ruin the genre if it gets put in with the rest of pop.
The fact HYBES CEO even says such things or has that as an actual idea is alarming... how is he CEO when he thinks like that
K pop is more than a song that is just sung in Korean, K-pop is influenced by many styles of music mixed its own special way and that's what drew me into K-pop in the first place.
Especially in these times.
i simply just don't understand or think that dropping the "k" in k-pop will catch on/be accepted enough to stick
