Loving the humour in this ep (the saga of Mrs Spikings' car is brilliant). D & M seem particularly flirty with each other. The line "Have you ever heard of English reserve?" "Heard of it? I have to live with it!" - I wonder if that was an 'in joke' (Michael and Glynis were a couple in real life by the time this ep was made)?
Quite. Though some of the plots are better than many of today's movies. Also, some of the major hits of the time, like Miami Vice, haven't aged anywhere near this well.
@@MichaelWerneburg Miami Vice is a superior series compared to this one and that is not to say I don't like Dempsey & Makepeace. MV was all about a very particular place and period of time , revolutionary in many ways and if you happen to feel like life was way better back then .... watching those eps is still an escape to a better time better place. Especially as a musician, MV is unique. The blend, the montages, the storytelling through music. Frank Zappa, Phil Collins adding some serious depth to the stories.
The ITV franchise renewals were approaching towards the late 80s and LWT which produced the programme had to make savings. They had just started filming another series called "London's Burning" and because both programmes were quite costly to produce LWT decided to cut one. I loved Dempsey & Makepeace but I suppose they figured it was probably time to go with something new. Pity, there were definitely lots more they could do with the characters!
What a great funny episode! Still enjoying this in 2020!😃😃😃😃🤣
Enjoying it even more in 2023 and Beyond.

Dempsey picks up the crowbar with his hands and says "your blood your hair" lol
That Mac coat isn't working - looks like it's soaked through the material lol.
Is that a Barbie in the calendar in the surveillance van?
Wonder why this was the last season

Did Dempsey say, 'Boris Johnson, one of the best prize fighters of his day'?
Either Boss Johnson or Hoss Johnson. When the series was produced Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson was still in university
