    • @StreetForged
      @StreetForged Рік тому +4

      At the end of the day you're just moving your fingers with good dexterity. A lot of the people who take a decade to get good paced themselves too slowly on the material they practiced or took too many breaks. I'm not amazing, but I got better than most of the guitarists I know in a fraction of the time because I jumped right into prog and math off the bat and would practice riffs that were way over my head for months.
      Learning green day for 5 years will never prepare you to play Guthrie Govan riffs

    • @ryanlyle9201
      @ryanlyle9201 Рік тому +1

      @@StreetForged Ive played most of my life and I’m glad for it because I decided to start learning stuff that was way too hard around 15 or so but it made me into the player I am. I tell people all the time, pick something super hard to learn, it teaches so much more patience. I attribute my patience in other aspects of my life to practice, it was worth it.

    • @StreetForged
      @StreetForged Рік тому +1

      @@ryanlyle9201 absolutely, the only way to grow is through failure. Especially in the case of guitar, a lot of bad habits can go unaddressed for years because easier pieces of music don't push you to the limit of what's possible.
      It took me a while to get economy of motion down and to find out that all of my guitars had really bad action. The first few songs I learned were by Tool and while they're not extremely simple, they were too slow paced to highlight the aforementioned issues in my playing, which became very apparent when I moved on to more complex riffs that required advanced chord shapes and moving all over the board quickly.
      It's too bad that it's so hard to find good sources of information that address all the important things to be mindful of in technique and guitar setup. I think a lot of people quit before they've given it a good shot because their guitar setup is bad and they don't have a good sense of direction or feeling of progression.

    Let me tell you my story.
    We had our math teacher, nothing special just normal everyday teacher who just happens to teach math .
    One day our school intruduces this new guy who basically was someone who could play guitar then we were told that we could take guitar classes from him. Before any students even had a chance to take classes from him,our math teacher reveals that he can play guitar. Basically our math teacher was apprantly extremely good at playing guitar, he was in a band and he also revealed that he has 2 years of guitar teaching experience😂😂😂 .So fast forward to few weeks the new dude didnt got to teach any guitar lessons but he was replaced as a teacher and all the students took classes from our math teacher myself included. And I shit you not, the new dude literally joined classes with us to learn from our math teacher because he was just that dam n good 😂😂😂. Still to this day I haven't seen anyone play guitar better than him with my own eyes

    I think you gave up too soon, modes and pick dynamics are the real sauce. The magical power to instantly sound like Vai, Santana, Yngwie, Eric Johnson, Satch, or EVH, only those of us that have made the deal with legba and put in the time know the secret and ancient ways.

    I bought my first guitar because my Uncle could play. I knew maybe 10 chords when we first played together. 6 months later, when we played again together, he said that I learned in 6 months what took him 6 years to learn. He is still better than me though.

    I swear I had a guitar teacher who saw my massive improvement from week to week and intentionally started trying to slow me down. He would say things like "...whoa....that's a little complex for what I asked you to do....all I wanted was a simple improv over a mild 12 bar blues. When did you learn all the inversions?" or some shit like that. Then he would see my thumb come up over the neck and tell me to keep it in the center of the neck....no. You gotta go friend. I am not altering what feels right just to satisfy your "course"
