What impresses me most is that one of the largest animals to ever exist is the blue whale and that it’s still alive today. Absolutely extraordinary. This is what makes me believe the world was once full of giants if something like the blue whale still exists!

@@bluemutt9964 I concur with this. But as yet it's not been proven scientifically. To be honest it wouldn't surprise me if there was a creature bigger than blue whale. There are so many undiscovered species out there, and far fewer that ended up in places where fossilisation could occur.

blue whale and the other big balleen whales are not old species tho.... balleen whales used to be barely bigger than dolphins, take antwerpibaleana liberatlas, it lived 5 million years ago and barely surpassed 5 m, was even smaller than the pigmy right whale... and weighed less than 2 tonnes. somewhere between 5million years ago and 1 million years ago the balleen whales started getting bigger and bigger... and the only giant tooth whales left are the one large sperm whale species and 2-3 beaked whales species that are also bigger than 10 tonnes....

The man of war is nowhere that size. It's about 30 centimetres across! The tentacles can be 160 feet, but only because its a cluster of living organisms, it would be virtually invisible compared to the diver from that distance, like a super long earthworm.

Anyone else watch that it took the swimmer about 7 seconds to pass underneath that Man O War and did the math to realize that he’s swimming at about 22 or 23mph? That’s about 4 times faster than Michael Phelps in his prime.

Some funny mix-ups here. Pliosaurus (a pliosaur) is depicted as an icthyosaur, while Shastaurus (an icthyosaur) is depicted as a pliosaur. Maybe they got switched? And the Shonisaurus and "Shastasaurus"/Pliosaur models have weird horizontal tail flukes, like whales. Icthyosaurs all had vertical tail fins and pliosaurs likely didn't have them at all.

Not to scale: I think the appearance of the sizes are larger than what they really are. Example: if the swimmer is on average 6ft and the Elasmosaurus is 46ft @3:10 why does it appear that the Elasmosaurus is maybe 16 times larger than the swimmer when it should only be less than 8 times larger. This Elasmosaurus appears to be roughly 100ft long not 46ft

One thing that I find fascinating about this was Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus has been proven to have fed upon Onchopristis. Now this sawfish was 8.5meters in length and quite a formidable opponent. Yet Spinosaurus would have had it for breakfast. Just goes to show how massive Spinosaurus actually was, being able to tackle that prey. In fact I'm surprised Spinosaurus isn't on this list, since it was predominantly an aquatic predator.

When I was approx 8 yrs old, an older girl came screaming and running up out of the sea at the "private" military officers beach in Aden. There were purple/red weals all down one of her arms. Poor kid, 😭 she didn't stop screaming, presumably all the way into the ambulance. The culprit was immediately identified as a Man O War and the sea was evacuated for several days.

*If* it was allowed and possible, would ride the ocean sunfish, manta ray, and killer whale.
*If* they were still around, would ride the ichthyosaurus, plesiosaurus, and onchopristis.
Wonder why there's no account of people accidentally swimming into the bell(body) of lion mane jellyfish. I don't think man of war jellyfish ever gets that big.
