Is the NSA still in cahoots with Facebook as previously shown to be true in documents in the Snowden days?
And, while I am here, can anybody find and post the supposed 4000 - 5000 data points that Cambridge Analytica supposedly utilized against their own fellow human beings?
And then also, since the US Post Office is now taking pictures of everybody's letter sized mail, are those photos making their way to the NSA as well?
And, what the heck, are people's personal DNA information making their way to the NSA as well?
What is going to occur, 'when' not 'if', an AI gets access to all that information? And there are or at least will be, many, many AI's in this world. Nobody would be safe, not even those who built the AI's or NSA. And we did it to ourselves.

The solution is more technical than just breaking up a monopoly. Force Facebook to open it's network up and support open protocols. Let them continue being a company, but treat social networking more like email.

    • @infinitree

As for privacy and controlling personal information, we need a broad reform that puts power in the hands of consumers which would affect many more corporations than just Facebook. Credit monitoring companies profit from our information, and charge us for the privilege to know what information they have about us.

The unwind of whatsapp and Instagram acquisition would be great! Start with that @USgovernment
    Here's why...
On Insta app there's an option to connect your phone contacts to Instagram. For some personal privacy reasons one might not need that..
But guess what.. You get into your Instagram suggestion and you find people in your contacts on the suggestion list.. People you have no close circles with(you didn't go to school with, you don't work with) and are new on your contacts. You've just meet them a few weeks ago..
Then you remember app data sharing.. And there's an app that has all your contacts already.. Which app is it?? Whatsapp.. Who owns all these companies, facebook.. Who control these API's for data exchange between all these systems??? Is it a person? Is it you? Or is it an Artificial intelligence?? A neuro Network can do things on its own isn't it.. Even when you say DON'T CONNECT CONTACTS!!! It already knows anyhow!! Or it can Know.. Or it Will easily know.. Through app data sharing!
Now thats just Contacts data.. I think FB has facial recognition.. Is it?? Alright I'll end there.. May be i didn't know what I'm thinking or talking about!

Amazon shouldn't be broken up yet, monopolies are only a problem when they abuse the lack of competition and raise prices with lower product quality. Amazon is the opposite, they're greatly lowering the prices, and the quality of their industry's products have in fact increased in quality. I'll only be supportive of the breakup once the abuse of power is noticeable and when the innovation ends.

an unpopular opinion in today's era. Facebook is just filling a void for people who are starving for attention, an excuse for self marketing(against modesty)and repeating the rhetoric that "we are better than others". Clearly they saw the demand(created the demand) and are now playing with the principles of Machiavellism. But it is just my opinion don't publicly shame my opinion if you don't see the merit in this just ignore it and move on with your limited lives
