- primitivepathways.com Learn how to make the exquisite Gunther Barbed arrowhead. These delicate arrowheads require advanced skill to make. Billy Berger shows you how to chip them out of thin flakes of flint and agate.
Master knapper Steve Allely introduced me to Gunther points and he can make the best Gunther points of anyone I've ever seen. You can buy Steve's points! His online store: flintknappers.com/store/allel... - Розваги
I've watched your videos off and on for 4 years and I want to thank you for your instructional skills. I have not only learned to make arrowheads but I've also learned to make arrows. Next will be a bow. Your close ups on your knapping videos have helped me a lot. Thanks again
Thanks so much! I've seen a lot of other people do flintknapping videos but they don't get close up so you can't clearly see what they're doing. They might be good at knapping, but they sure aren't good at showing exactly what they're doing. That's why I take the time and trouble to do the close-ups...
YAY BILLY IS BACK!
in the amount of time since our last lessons, ive figured out my technique for gunthers.
Round off the tip, finish and sharpen the final edge and teeth. Then so carefully one at a, time dive into the barbs as far as you can. I use a simple flattened copper wire to do the barbs. I use my local obsidian deposit i grew up on.
Unfortunately where i hunt barbed points are against the law for big game. Not gonna stop me from hunting birds with one though.
Billy is back!!! Had to get on my phone because my computer doesn’t like to let me comment. Well done Billy! Glad to see some more content on your channel!
Thanks Gary! I've got more videos I'll be posting soon.
@@primitivepathways good deal buddy! Can’t wait!
Billy, it's a pleasure to have you back with your interesting videos, I always had an interest in knowing how primitive weapons were made and the materials they used. Thanks and greetings from Mexico.
Thanks so much!
well it was not welding rods and copper
He is as easy to talk to as you hear and see him on this video . 😊
Indeed. I met him at the North GA Knap in years go. Very friendly.
Missed your videos. Thank you for the time to film, edit, and upload.
Thanks brother I'll be dropping another video soon!
Thanks for making this video! The Gunther point is one of my favorites to make, but after watching this I can see a couple of things I was doing wrong. Thanks for making this video!
You're welcome! Glad my video helped you.
The legend of Billy continues.
Hahah...yes it does!!
3:07 even if u stopped at that very moment and start sharpening the edge making it surrated the arrowhead would still be deadly now I get it this is done for beauty purposes and traditional purposes and I also get that u can put basically anything sharp at the tip of a arrow and it will work kind of the same way as this still this design is gonna make a fine addition to my collection truly a masterpiece in terms of beauty in fact I'd never use these at all if I manage to make them regardless they're pretty cool
As always great work, and good see ya back in action. Enjoy your videos
Thanks brother! I'm working on more videos and will be uploading them soon!
THERE HE IS!!!! Great Video.....CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!!!!
He lives!
So glad you're back!! Keep making more videos please.
Thanks I plan to!
Awesome, interesting how thin you can make them without them breaking when using them.
Yeah it's not easy and takes a lot of practice to get them thin and not break them.
That is skill! Beautiful point!👍😊
You make a good point, Billy. ;)
Good to see you back, man!
Glad to be back!
Glad to be back!! 💣💥💣💥💣💥

Great to see a Billy video. Been too long. Hope you are all well. I was just at backwoods bowstring talking about you
Awesome! I been doing good, just staying busy. Tell Shannon I said hi next time you're up there at Backwoods!
Welcome back ✨❤✨
Well done!
Grande honra ter você aqui novos vídeos, sucessos sempre e tudo de bom!!!
Simply amazing
My anxiety!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂 well done!
nice to see you knapping again. I really enjoy your abo work. My wrist injury stopped my knapping unfortunately. Abo, the only way I knapped, is a bit demanding. You are a good instructor. Peace be with you.
Going to give it a try tomorrow, neat point.
Great Work!!
Love your videos Billy! Keep posting!
Thanks I plan to! Got another one that I'll be uploading this week so stay tuned!
So happy your back I love your video's.
Thanks brother I'll be uploading another one this week so stay tuned!
Ayyyy let’s go another vid 🔥🔥
Nice video Billy!
Que!! Long time no talk!! Hope you're doing great my man!!
Parabéns Billy verdadeira obra de arte, fascinante caçar com arco primitivo com flechas e ponteiras pedra, prefiro também arcos tradicionais pela sua simplicidade!!!
YEEHAW!
Golly bad ass
welcome back love the channel as a navajo i learned making bows from ya!!
also would you ever try blade core flintknapping?
I have actually done a little bit of blade work, but not much. I don't live in an area that has a lot of large flint nodules that I can readily practice blade core technology on, so I don't do it very often. But I have done some blade work and it's really cool!
Whoo your back!!.
I just bindged your bow build series.
Was wondering can you make an Osage bow right after cutting a tree like you can hickory if you heat it.
I wish I was a better flint Knapper.
Hope you keep making new vids
No you have to let osage dry slowly, otherwise it cracks. I don't think heat treating osage has that much of an effect on performance as it does a white wood like hickory.
These are now called Tuluwat barbed.
Ausm👌
How were these points hafted?
Hey what ever happened to the fire hardened white wood bow project?
We released a DVD on the topic showing every step of the process. I Sell it on my website: primitivepathways.com.
Meticulous work. When you use them, are you hafting in a small foreshaft? They visually seem to need an equally delicate haft - it's hard to tell on camera.
Yes they are set into a rather small foreshaft. The stem is fitted into a shallow notch on the tip of the arrow, but the old guys would also run a wrap of sinew over the edges in the middle of the blade to give added strength to the haft. (I do the same, but I dull the area where the sinew wraps go over the edge so the sinew isn't cut). The stem doesn't really offer much strength if that's the only part that's hafted since it's so small.
@@primitivepathways Makes sense to give them an edge wrap. TY.
use what the indians used, not welding rods etc
Bro i still have my agate gunther you made from like 10 years ago! I need some more, every year i wna hunt with it lol but its so good i show it off and brag on ya
