  • Today we'll take you along on a how-to for wiring gauges in your diesel engine swap, specifically a GM engine to a Cummins 5.9L 6bt diesel.
    We'll go over:
    * An analysis of the wiring diagrams for the 1996 Chevrolet K2500 Suburbans
    * An outline of the placement and identification of the proper wires and connectors to connect and splice
    * Identification of the oil pressure, water temperature, tachometer, and speedometer wire connections
Hopefully, this will get you on the right path to correctly working gauges in your diesel swap. Happy building!

Great video! I am having issues with the speedometer. My tk is a 1996 k3500 (7.4 to a 24valve). I kept the dodge 47RE trans and the nv205 transfer case. I am using a Firepunk anteater as a stand alone computer. Any suggestion on how I can get my speedometer to work? I did switch the cluster panel to the chevy diesel one. thanks for your time.

I got all my gauhes work minus the speed sensor, it's a nv4500 4x4. From my understanding the us shift is for automatics. How do I get speedo signal? Thanks in advance.

The title should maybe reflect that this is for a swap into a suburban.

Once again, Joel is the man! I tested the alternator wire to the ignition coil on my [454] truck today. I'll definitely need the Dakota Digital - the tach was way off, although it was nice to see it alive again. Hehe. I'll be ordering that from you this coming week. Next up for me, AC wiring. I finally got my hoses done and my system charged (by manually energizing the AC clutch) but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make the computer trigger the AC on its own. All of the wiring is unaltered from the 454 days. Any tips there?

You need to bypass the high-pressure sensor. That is probably locking you out from just relying on the cycling switch on the receiver dryer which is all that you need. The ECM does not control the AC request. If you talk nice I might do a video.....LOL
