That is some huffing and puffing hike! Did that 50 years ago when the glacier was larger. One of those lakes up there we saw Golden trout but only 6 inches or less. Supposedly they stock via helicopter after October 15th. Helicopter lands on water/pontoons, shuts off, opens bay/tank to release fish, allow to disperse, then flies home.
Yeah, I was gasping for air! That's interesting about the stocking. For brookie in lakes with inlet and outlet creeks stocking isn't necessary at all. I was just looking at information on aerial stocking. Doesn't seem like it's as prominent as it used to be. I wish they would plant more trout to bolster the variety in a lot of backcountry lakes. Ideally, before a big Winter so they can reproduce it the outlet/inlet creeks. make a new generation of wild fish and get that whole process going.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 decades ago, October 15th was end of fishing season. The end of October, the lakes were stocked, by truck tanker, at least twice, with rainbow and brown trout minimum size 18 inches. Healthy and mature to survive the winter. Early October, the brook trout were amassed in the Junction campground Saddlebag creek/Lee Vinning creek, coming out of Ellery lake to spawn. Not unheard of to catch 24 inch trout at Ellery or Saddlebag in June when the ice was thawing.
You should have 50k scribes by now my friend, prayers for safety out there & your channel grows quick, your a great fisherman. I fished the sierras for 3 decades its really bitchen up there.
Had a monster day at the Conness Lakes last time I was there. Used a clear plastic bubble filled completely with water, attached a seven foot leader of ultragreen maxima 4 pound test, tied on a powerbait worm with a size 10 hook, hook the worm near it’s head. Cast this rig out let it sink to the bottom and slowly retrieve the worm to shore. The goldens couldn’t resist the worm’s movement. Use chartreuse, orange and red colors. This rig is just a variation of a standard fly and bubble rig on a spinning outfit. Caution, you will get some short strikes, but this set up worked well.
@@larrywoloshyn8055 He’s talking about a casting bubble. They come in different sizes. They are less likely to snag on the bottom and drift down slowly. The idea is they are heaver and you can cast them farther and the action is good. I use them from boats when the trout are deeper with live night crawlers and slowly drift the crawlers down to find the depth they are at..
Another great video. I wish I was there with you. Can’t wait to see the fishing video. What is it about golden trout that makes you want to go find them? I guess it is the beautify ultra high lakes and remote places. Thanks for sharing.😊
I love fishing for goldens. I plan to take another shot at a new lake with them in October. The lows are going to start dropping to frigid temps soon above 10K. I'd rather deal with cold than hot. At least, to a point!
Right on. I was getting a lot of short strikes. I'll be looking for bigger goldens in a lake I haven't fished soon. I expect nice fish based on my experience in the general area.
I would bet that your feedback (well, sometimes pointed complaining) about NF map and trail signage is making a difference: I saw a few newer signs on this trip. Right on! Another vlog with amazingly fun narration. Loved the Brookie spotting. I spit my dinner out again on Lance studying comment! Your timing is amazing. The skeleton comment is just in time for Halloween...agree with your safety tips.
Pretty hike, liked waterfall. Fishing good, but small goldens. Go to leavitt lake. Hike to Koenig, latope and ski lakes Caught 18inch golden out of Koenig some years ago.
I've looked at those on a map already and want to explore but I need more time for the greater distances. I have a bunch of quality golden trout lakes on my backcountry fishing playlist already. This trip was more about exploring new territory. I'll be fishing for bigger goldens in the not too distant future.
Thanks. A lot of what I am doing these days is to continue to feature new locations on my channel. I now have enough content on my channel playlists where it would take the average person or family decades to see it all given most people only can find time to get to the mountains a couple of times a year. I want to watch your crabbing video.
Just get there! I'm going on a long trip with my cousin Lance in a couple of weeks and there's going to be some cross country adventure in the middle of that one.
A little bit of adventure in that one. I am managing to get more new locations for my backcountry playlists than I thought I'd be able to. I'm running out of time this Fall but I still have some plans.
You should get a packraft. They are literally made for hiking to fishing spots. Mine weighs 10 lbs and pops out of my backpack to be deployed anywhere. They have lighter ones in the 2lb range too. Would elevate your exploration instead of just bank fishing. You get to reach spots that would be otherwise inaccessible.

Stunning hike my friend! Trail looks really enjoyable and peaceful!
Yeah, it's a really nice area to spend time in.
Saddlebag Lake was are departure point for our Boy Scout 50 miles in 1972.
Destination: Tuolumne Meadows.
Thanks for the virtual visit
Right on. I was one year old then!
Can't wait to see the fishing, thanks for bringing us along
The fishing was a battle out of the gate but I found some willing participants in the end.

Right on. Thanks for the kind words.

What is the point of filling bobber with water..wht not just use various weights...split shots..etc

I love those new signs they put in at the trailhead. It makes explaining where I'm going much easier!

Dana Lake Has Big Goldens But it is a Grind going Back into the canyon.

Nice Amani. I enjoy watching the hike as well as the fishing. Be safe. See ya
Right on. Glad you enjoyed it.
I really love all these spots you keep exploring. You deserve 10k followers, which won’t take long. Great video Amani 👏

I like the Armani GPS system. Guesstimate the mileage, point and go.

Yes it was. That hike has a little touch of adventure in it.

to windy for those lite 2lb pack raft up there you will spend more time paddling then fishing .
Those goldens aren't worth me carrying a pack raft up there. I usually do fine from shore. Especially if that's where I'm targeting fish.
When was this last week the 120 was closed
120 was not closed 395 was close for 2 weeks i was up there a week ago had to go 120 through the park to get to tioga pass where He Is.
