  • Kelly Slater vs Connor O'Leary | Outerknown Tahiti Pro Round of 16 Full Heat Replay
    The most critical wave in the world is now somehow more extreme than ever. Added to the mutant barrels, committed drops, and razor-sharp reef is the fact that Teahupo’o serves as the last fight for the WSL Final 5. The women get their first shot at the famed barrel in 16 years and the world’s best surfers get one last chance to lay it all on the line for a spot in the Rip Curl WSL Finals.

    Slater's 9.0 looks like it was underscored. Same size as Macgillvary's 10.0, Slater was deeper and rode the wave cleaner. Macgillvay botched the takeoff which made the wave more critical. Good surfing all around. Very enjoyable comp to watch.

    If Griffin hadn't claimed that wave so hard and done a mean turn, he probably would've got the 5.9 he needed

    Please excuse my not knowing, but have to ask- is a 6 feet wave here more powerful than a 6 feet wave at Newport Beach, or even Huntington Beach when those places are firing?

    If you look at the history of Brazilian surfer score lines and final placements including Brazilian victories anyone as a Brazilian Supporter can never say they are not scored fairly.

    That was weak. Ok, it wasn't weak but there was way more Colapinto vs Dora than there was Slater vs O'Leary.

    I think this whole top 5 thing is BS. You can surf incredible all year and get knocked out by a wildcard or a slow heat.

      there were already a few international guys pronouncing it correctly 5-10 years ago, but I guess only in the last couple of years it's been the majority.

    Is there a deduction for wearing a helmet? Doesn’t that reduce the “critical” factor just because…well, it’s a risk reducing piece of equipment? Don’t get me wrong I’m not against wearing a helmet at a shallow reef break, but for the pros to opt to do it in competition just seems… unseemly.

    What's with the new way of pronouncing this wave? I've always heard it pronounced 'cho-poo' (or 'chopes' for short) even on WSL broadcasts. Now all of a sudden the WSL is changing this? Has everyone always pronounced it wrong? Or are you just being nauseatingly 'enlightened'?

    • @scottwilson4818
      @scottwilson4818 2 роки тому

      Just keep using chopes until some name whisperer corrects you, I guess.
