Grew up around the corner and hung with his little brother a few times and got to meet him a lot . He really is a genuine man. We love you Eddie always will look up to you.
Tonaysha Austin well i watched this video, and i was thinking...kensington doesnt look too bad when the sun is out....lol...but at night...oh mama mia...lol
I had no idea who this man was, what he did and the reason behind this video. I clicked on it on accident and I'm so glad I did. It tuned me with such a different perspective. I actually teared up a little bit at the reality and inspiration this man has to offer. I did not know your name but I know it now. Eddie Alvarez, I wish you great success to come.
The guy Eddie knew who is now champion of the world, Danny Garcia (mentions around 12 minutes), had a fight last year, one of his chief sparring partners during training, was a guy from the UK called....ADIL ANWAR..lol
Only thing I don’t like about this video is I am seeing it in 2021 …. I never followed Eddie as much as I should have except for the fact i rooted for him in fights and knew what I saw on tv…aka DREAM Bellator and ufc I always liked this man but didn’t know we had a lot in common.. I need to start looking at what you don’t necessarily see because anyone is anybody but anyone might be your role model Eddie your legacy is ..WRITTEN...you are a champ thank you 🙏 for being your self #Glad I Watched 🙌
I am impressed. This is a man, anyone young or old, can look up to and learn from. What an example of setting goals, carrying it through, correcting when needed and following his heart. He truly knows what "rich" means. An excellent example to others.
Out of all the MMA interviews I have watched this has to be the best I have ever watched amazing. Thank you for sharing what a great champion and roll model Eddie is wishing him much more success we need more guys like him in the UFC. -Paul
I know that you won't see this, but Louis did a documentary on Philly cops. This neighborhood was a big part in the episode and one of the cops following Ariel and Eddie was a big part in the documentary (Hunter).
Need More like these. The in depth 1 hour process lets you truly get to know the person of interest and often times reveals a side of them you never knew. Love it.
Without a dout Ariel the best reporter ive followed you on all your reports I enjoy your reports much respect to you your staff..Eddie s a great example of never giving up hope .very hummble young man great Leadership of what a CHAMP should be .the world of Sport needs more persons like you EDDIE ALVARES..A person that never forgets where he came from now thats RESPECT !!
He should bring alvarez with him, and maybe he will stop with this silly "i live in a slum" mentality. Thats nothing man. You live in a regular area. Not for america, but compared with the rest of the world. Go to russia, and africa or brazil if you want dangerous places with insane poverty.
such a dumb viewpoint...just because some neighborhoods in foreign countries are TREMENDOUSLY bad, doesn't mean that the REALLY bad neighborhoods in America are actually safe...the existence of something worse far away doesn't affect/change the reality of a place for the people living in it
Eddie Is a great champion and seems like an even greater man/person. Very well spoken and conveys what he wants to say very well. Also much respect to the 2 officers that walked with them. Great walk and talk.
These are your best interviews Ariel. Rampage Jackson, Jon Jones, Mayhem Miller. Out on the streets. A nice convo/interview with great scenery. Thanks Ariel.
I am a New Yorker through and through...I hate all things Philly but after meeting Eddie at a trade show and seeing this interview he is quickly becoming one of my favorite fighters.
Too expensive and hard to schedule to do that often. If he did it every week, we'd be getting "A Day in Chicago with Phil Brooks" or "A Day in Brooklyn with David Branch" The quality would definitely drop.
I'm not from Philly but I did a lot of growing up there in the same area. After this video I have a new favorite fighter and respect for Aerial. Best UFC related show ever!
Not only was this absolutely amazing, it was incredibly enlightening. I was one of the nay-sayers about Eddie's showmanship... I had no idea his nose and orbital was broken. He's a warrior with a heart of gold. This guy deserves everything he gets and more. A man that can see that he's rich before he's made the big money, is a man I'd be happy for my kids to call a role model. Eddie Alvarez deserves the big-money fights... He's the champ. And as much as I'm entertained and enjoy watching and rooting for Conor, I think Eddie's right... After 6-8 minutes, he'd make it look like an unfair fight.
I'll admit, I was not an Eddie Alvarez fan after seeing his first few fights in the UFC (I didn't see any of his Bellator fights). After the Pettis fight, I thought for sure that there was no way I'd ever be a fan of his. But then I saw the Embedded episodes for the RDA fight, which made me a fan. This video further cemented it. Seeing someone rise up from poverty, to withstand adversity, and to make it to the top of the word is something you gotta respect and appreciate. How can you not? I love seeing people succeed, especially when they had a lot of obstacles to overcome. Great video, Ariel and MMAFighting!
win lose or draw, people like eddie put their lives on the line for our amusement and entertainment . and i don't think any amount of money can replace the years of your life that gets taken away from you doing that and for that reason i appreciate people like eddie
Big thank you for this interview featuring A Day w/ Eddie. I love the opportunity to view the humanity behind the fighter. Eddie is inspirational. I'm 55 and he inspires me to be a better human being! Kudos to Ariel and the crew! Keep up the good work. P.S. Keep those letters to self coming Eddie! Great self-improvement strategy!!
West Philadelphia born and raised, on a playground is where I spent most of my days! Got in one little fight and my mom got scared, she said you're moving in with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air!
excellent piece by Ariel. Alvarez is the man and his down to Earth personality is refreshing considering how much he's accomplished. hoping he defends the title a few times at least.
LOL the philly PD have a million worse crimes to worry about in kensington than some old man selling fake nikes. literally one of the worst neighborhoods in the country they didnt even show any of the bad parts.
Lots of respect for Alvarez. Great guy. Head on straight. Great heartfelt interview from Ariel Helwani. His parents raised him right and show you can come from anywhere and make it with proper guidance and hard work. Big fan after this interview.
This interview was awesome... much better than the self-promotion fake interviews on the UFC sponsored channels. Great job Ariel, you are at the top of your game and these longer in-depth raw documentary style interviews are much better than in the studio.
That was excellent, a great format for us to see different sides to these guys. Holding a conversation for an hour like that whilst making it seem so casual is a difficult skill, so credit to you Ariel. Not to mention great extended exposure for the fighters too, Eddie came across very well. Hope he gets the McGregor fight.
Eddie Alvarez lost his debut to Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone , a man who lost to RDA twice. He later won the belt from RDA , MMA is crazy. A loss isn’t a setback , it is a setup
Oh man, what a great interview and a walk thru! Thanks so much Ariel and the mmafighting crew for making this possible! So inspiring to watch and learn from Eddie!
great show ariel!! can u please please please do more of these shows.? u really get a better perspective and respect of a fighter than the ufc countdown shows
Much respect for Eddie made me a fan. I grew up in Detroit went to Catholic School's saw a different life. Played football and went to military, the hood is sad but it made me tough...a survivor.
The interviewer looks afraid of the area. I lived up there for quite awhile, though I'm a South Philly guy. It is true that back in the day......... boxing was huge and many of our peers had great skills with those hands.
+Bookwormbandit Philly has always had a large Muslim population. Nation of Islam to be exact...however I don't think you'd have to worry about ISIS (although NOI members can be pretty radical in their own right), because most "regular" Muslims, ie Sunni/Shiites don't consider NOI member to be real Muslims
i love eddies story because ive been following him since the bellator days and i remember when people said he wouldnt do well transitioning to the ufc. i always kind of new he would do well but even didnt think he would become champ. its awesome
It's awsome to listen to Eddie talk about his growth and development on boxing, yet know that he has displayed the characteristic of being a panic wrestler in the UFC. We all have to do what we gottah do sometimes.
Wow, another incredible walk and talk! Maybe even the best one yet! Much respect to you Sir Alvarez, I hope you stay on top for a long time you're a good dude..
UFC has to make Mcgregor vs. Alvarez, stars don't align very often everything is in place. Irish global superstar vs. the dog fighter from Philly, it's a no brainer for me, i'm down.
Gained a lot of respect for Eddie watching this. Great mindset, from the outside looking in he seems to be as balanced as a champion mma fighter can be, looking forward to watching the rest of his career unfold.
Ffeoli1039 I was there until I was about 23 and I'm 35 now. But I was down the other end on Jasper by Somerset. Now I live about 20 mins away so I'm still in Philly but it looks like the burbs and nice. And I'll never move back to Kensington.
John Flood But I hung up Conwell by Jasper and Lippincott so I knew a couple guys from Cornwall. Lol the dudes I hung with always were fighting the Cornwall dudes 😂😂
Conor has a whole country behind him means not much bcs there are more people living in the Philly metropolitan area then in all of Ireland. They just dont have anything else to root for in Ireland, Hence the expression``in the land of the blind the one eyed is king``.
As someone who also grew up in Kensington for a time and also used sports to better my life, I know the feeling of being uneasy going back to the neighborhood.
Stockton is bad, it's not as big as Philly so it might seem like it's not bad. Stockton has been reported to have more homicides per capita than Chicago. It's all about per capita stats, not just homicides per year
Kensington is one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in America, dudes get killed for no reason at all out there. Stockton is not worse or better it's just relative slums.
Eddie is a very decent human being. Great for the MMA world.
Grew up around the corner and hung with his little brother a few times and got to meet him a lot . He really is a genuine man. We love you Eddie always will look up to you.
Nah.
@@johnboylan3832what?
Eddie Alvarez dudes a true champion. You can tell by just listening to him talk that he’s a stand up dude. Proud that he’s a fellow Philadelphian.
As a Philly guy myself, I'm proud to see people representing our city well.
Same here. Very proud he's been able to get out and give back.
anyone who grows up in kensington and gets out of that hell hole has my respect
charles torrence preach it brother.
+charles torrence people would never understand if their not from philly. i use to live on B and indian. Horrible

awwwww....that's so sweet! were you in your nightgown and fuzzy slippers that happened to come across this watching knitting videos?
+Bookwormbandit I was and somehow ended here but stayed
+Bookwormbandit WHY YES 😂 lol
The guy Eddie knew who is now champion of the world, Danny Garcia (mentions around 12 minutes), had a fight last year, one of his chief sparring partners during training, was a guy from the UK called....ADIL ANWAR..lol
I'm from philly to Eddie Alvarez is such a humble guy I met him he signed a glove and took a picture with me and my kids
This was dope. Make it a regular thing. Stockton next
I'd rather listen to nails on a chalkboard for an hour.
no I want GSP in Montreal
+Barry Kent El Chapo!? Lol
Agreed

This comment deserves a lot more thumbs up bro! That was great!

I was born in raised in Philly, it was times as a kid I fought 3 to 4 times in a day...facts!
These episodes are great. Helwani is like the Louis Theroux of MMA. Eddie is the real deal. True working class story. Nothing but deep respect.
I ve always thought his style is quite reminiscent of Louis's work as well. cheers
omg I thought the same exact thing haha OMG spot on I kept thinking about Louis thereoux
Louis also coincidentally has a documentary on Kensington. It's on Netflix
I know that you won't see this, but Louis did a documentary on Philly cops. This neighborhood was a big part in the episode and one of the cops following Ariel and Eddie was a big part in the documentary (Hunter).

Ariel, do one with Aldo in a favela.
lol

What's with the attitude, it would be awesome. Adriano would help Aldo to prepare a warm welcome for them.
such a dumb viewpoint...just because some neighborhoods in foreign countries are TREMENDOUSLY bad, doesn't mean that the REALLY bad neighborhoods in America are actually safe...the existence of something worse far away doesn't affect/change the reality of a place for the people living in it

I love these videos when Ariel walks with fingers in their neighbourhoods. I learn so much about each fighter and respect them way more.
Great to see Eddie get some press, he's a hell of a fighter and deserves some recognition for what he's done before and since he entered the UFC.

These are your best interviews Ariel. Rampage Jackson, Jon Jones, Mayhem Miller. Out on the streets. A nice convo/interview with great scenery. Thanks Ariel.
Ariel, I often complain about you and your obsession with the irish dude, but honestly this is great work! seriously keep it up brother!
I am a New Yorker through and through...I hate all things Philly but after meeting Eddie at a trade show and seeing this interview he is quickly becoming one of my favorite fighters.
You should do this once a week Ariel! these are gold.
Too expensive and hard to schedule to do that often. If he did it every week, we'd be getting "A Day in Chicago with Phil Brooks" or "A Day in Brooklyn with David Branch" The quality would definitely drop.

The work put in this man, wow. I love this channel more and more every day.

I really like guys like Eddie representing the sport!!! Thanks for the interview, respect.
That was awesome! watched from start to finish very interesting
win lose or draw, people like eddie put their lives on the line for our amusement and entertainment . and i don't think any amount of money can replace the years of your life that gets taken away from you doing that and for that reason i appreciate people like eddie
You should do one of these with Conor McGregor this year.
he's done one with mcgregor already.
+Haile Selassie "this year"
Impossible. If they were to walk the streets of Dublin they'd be swarmed with fans.
hate to break it to you ask anyone over 50 and they have no idea who conor mcgregor is it would be 10-30 year olds and thats not a majority
and you're butthurt lmao
Big thank you for this interview featuring A Day w/ Eddie. I love the opportunity to view the humanity behind the fighter. Eddie is inspirational. I'm 55 and he inspires me to be a better human being! Kudos to Ariel and the crew! Keep up the good work. P.S. Keep those letters to self coming Eddie! Great self-improvement strategy!!
Eddie is such a great dude. I respect him "100%".
This is sooo great. Writing a letter to yourself. This guy is inspiration.
Such a great guy, good luck with everything!
these are always a treat. ariel makes the sport so much better. he gets the fighters stories out there like no other.
West Philadelphia born and raised, on a playground is where I spent most of my days! Got in one little fight and my mom got scared, she said you're moving in with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air!
eddie is very pure and has a real humble and consciouse attitude
Ariel Helwani looking around cautiously
Eddie Alvarez is a grinder, guy has been in some great battles. Good guy with lots of heart, glad to see it all paying off for him.
Hespect, can't deny Alvarez anymore. The dude climbed the ranks and is now the champ.
This was one of the best interviews ever done with a MMA fighter I've ever seen; and I've seen
a lot of them over the years.
Great interview but I wonder how many times Ariel was legit scared/worried!
Could smell the fear in his eyes !
He was there wasn't her? Ariel seemed pretty calm to me. Maybe you should try walking around in that neighborhood chief
lol I would've been terrified about five minutes in when those guys back up their car to just stare them down...
+John he said they got there boys with guns with them
john doe only reason he gotta hood pass for the day
Eddie Alvarez is a beast! Started from the bottom now he is the King. A true underdog story
What a great Man! True Warrior!
excellent piece by Ariel. Alvarez is the man and his down to Earth personality is refreshing considering how much he's accomplished. hoping he defends the title a few times at least.
18:28 Thanks Eddie, for helping us putting that old man behind bars -Philadelphia Police Dept
LOL, Eddie the grass haha
are you philly pd?
Yeah the old man is looking at the cameras scared 😂
Err yea but before, before... now all original!
Damn you Diaz couldn't you just finished the fight the last time so we wouldn't have these PG Justin Bieber's army all over the comment section......
huge conor fan but I agree. they need to grow up and be mature . and respect all the fighters
They are all beta male cucks that know very little about the sport besides conor mcgregor.
+James Ervin you seem mad, no need to be butt hurt that your boyfriend got finished so you feel the need to be loud about a close decision.
+James Ervin smh, just hold this L
right..diaz 14-9 in the UFC.. win those fights
This interview was awesome... much better than the self-promotion fake interviews on the UFC sponsored channels. Great job Ariel, you are at the top of your game and these longer in-depth raw documentary style interviews are much better than in the studio.
Great piece! Good to know what these fighters are like outside the cage. Alvarez seems like salt of the earth.
That was such an awesome interview! "Rich ain't about money, it's a feeling!" Love it.
Hilarious that Ariel asked Eddie if he's ever done heroine 😂
Well its philly soo...
yeah 100%
Ariel is so innocent sometimes lol
yeah 100%
lol I didn't even catch that funnny, ariel and mma fighting are the best in the business
Oh man, what a great interview and a walk thru! Thanks so much Ariel and the mmafighting crew for making this possible! So inspiring to watch and learn from Eddie!
I watched this and I liked it.
wow, great interview. I have a whole new level of respect for this guy. Very impressive man doing the right things at the right time
Humble dude, from the hood. Im in his corner now
great show ariel!! can u please please please do more of these shows.? u really get a better perspective and respect of a fighter than the ufc countdown shows
Eddie was just covering for that guy saying fake nikes instead of stolen lool and the guy didnt get it lol
hahaha I laughed at that as well
don't read that much into it, not stolen, just counterfeits.
sefrzan
Authentic fakes!! 100% made in China. Genuine, 2 for 1, any colour
He actually talked too much the guy had to do correct him
Im from South Jersey, across the river. I am the same exact age as eddie. When we were younger the fake nike, fake polo, fake anything was everywhere.
ISIS is in south philly already?
Ahhh a South Philly dude lol. Yes boxing was a huge in Kensington 😊
spent alot of time up there too. lol
Salahuddin Muhammad I grew up there.
+Bookwormbandit Philly has always had a large Muslim population. Nation of Islam to be exact...however I don't think you'd have to worry about ISIS (although NOI members can be pretty radical in their own right), because most "regular" Muslims, ie Sunni/Shiites don't consider NOI member to be real Muslims
i love eddies story because ive been following him since the bellator days and i remember when people said he wouldnt do well transitioning to the ufc. i always kind of new he would do well but even didnt think he would become champ. its awesome
and i remember how they term your behavior: stalker
Bookwormbandit lol.. or a fan
And Conor thinks he is from the mean streets? this sure aint Dublin.
true
After Conor knocks him out, he's going to turn that neighborhood into a Reebok sweat shop
+Emmanuele Piras that escalated quickly
+Robert Blake
Wild Guess - Im thinkin youve NEVER walked tru Crumlin ??
Most likely youve NEVER even been in Town(Dublin) before...
iv seen more run down places in ireland than this it dont even look that bad
It's awsome to listen to Eddie talk about his growth and development on boxing, yet know that he has displayed the characteristic of being a panic wrestler in the UFC. We all have to do what we gottah do sometimes.
Yo Ariel! Eddie's story is cool and all and I respect the dude, but what about Rampage Jackson in his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee! Make it happen!
He may be irrelevant nowadays, but it's been long overdue. Ariel said he would do it back in 2012 when he did A day in NYC with Rampage Jackson.
AJ Ouncer
Rampage and Ariel don't get along
Fantastic job Ariel, really appreciate the work you do. Really enjoy getting an insight into the fighters lives.
Eddie "The Rat Bastard" Alvarez
😂😂😂
Nice wonky eye Devin. ;)
Lol Thats my good eye.
Devin Mccallum Fuuur Suuuure
Its my grape van now.
I absolutely love these one on ones. You the man Ariel.
18:30 Eddie just snitched on the poor guy
Wow, another incredible walk and talk! Maybe even the best one yet! Much respect to you Sir Alvarez, I hope you stay on top for a long time you're a good dude..
UFC has to make Mcgregor vs. Alvarez, stars don't align very often everything is in place. Irish global superstar vs. the dog fighter from Philly, it's a no brainer for me, i'm down.
On all four
Eddie is half Irish and half Puerto Rican

Eddie deserves a Big pay day....I'm happy he got the Mcgregor fight!!

Proud Irish Kenzo here 😊
haha. I feel ya. wasn't there too long but it was my birthplace

John Flood But I hung up Conwell by Jasper and Lippincott so I knew a couple guys from Cornwall. Lol the dudes I hung with always were fighting the Cornwall dudes 😂😂
Great video!!! Nice insight into Eddie's life and where he grew up. Seems like a genuine, stand-up guy. More of these kind of videos please Ariel!!!
there's a reason the fresh prince got the hell out of there
This interview was great for Eddie. Comes across really well.
Conor has a whole country behind him means not much bcs there are more people living in the Philly metropolitan area then in all of Ireland. They just dont have anything else to root for in Ireland, Hence the expression``in the land of the blind the one eyed is king``.
Yeah, but a lot are probably immigrants, not born and raised in Philly.
No there isn't.
They just dont have any other athletes in Ireland,I cant name one.
Yeah, and probably 100 people from Philly would bother to buy a ticket to attend one of his fights.
.
Seems like a truly great guy. Don't know why he's so under the radar, great record and a top top fighter.
isn't Eddie half Irish??
Half Irish half Rican
Rican got gangsters and the Irish got mobsters in phiilly
+Seamus Mcguinness My point exactly
Half Irish and half Spanish descent (by way of Puerto Rico). 100% European stock.
Yeah his mom is Irish. Kensington was a Irish hood so idk why he was knocking us Irish.
love the humble "you can take the person out of the city, but not city out of the person"
*These are cool videos ✅😁*
As someone who also grew up in Kensington for a time and also used sports to better my life, I know the feeling of being uneasy going back to the neighborhood.
happy to say that I made it to 20 and I’m getting tf outta here.. moving to Bensalem Dec 15th.. I can’t wait bruh, fk this place.
Do one of these with Nate in Stockton, you might get mugged but whatever
I guess you didn't see the two cops that had to escort them walking behind them the whole time.
Lol noob mma fans think stocktons so hard. This place is way worseee
+Eddie Bixby yeah but Stockton is bad too. One of the most dangerous cities in the country if you look it up
Stockton is bad, it's not as big as Philly so it might seem like it's not bad. Stockton has been reported to have more homicides per capita than Chicago. It's all about per capita stats, not just homicides per year
Kensington is one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in America, dudes get killed for no reason at all out there. Stockton is not worse or better it's just relative slums.
Man these pieces are fantastic, I look at Eddie in a whole new light. Ariel and team needs to do these once a month.
Philadelphia born and raised, on the canvas is where he spent most of his daze
Eddie is so honest and true. Respect!
When you gonna do this in the 209 Ariel...
awesome, work. thanks ariel and crew and thank you eddie alvarez. great insight.
Eddie will have to write an entire book to himself once he gets KO'd by McGregor.
Tommy G this aged well
That was really great. Nicely done. Always really liked Eddie, but this added a new appreciation for him.
