@@drusilla_darke Thank you very much
That's awesome! You've got this.
@@sunflowerfields4409 Thank you
Brilliant!!! Well done!
I used to buy things BECAUSE they were on sale. Now I buy things I NEED, WHEN they're on sale.
I used to also!
This is smart 👍🏻
I use to buy stupid things for stupid reasons ❤now I don't 🙃
In high school (40 yrs ago) an economics teacher taught us never put on credit something that will be done and gone before it's paid off...like vacations.. restaurant meals...junk purchases. Old fashioned maybe...super smart- definitely!
Since I stopped working last fall I haven't been to any restaurant. I have rice, green beans and hamburger with soy sauce. $3.25 per plate. MmmMmm good. Cheap too.
So funny about the "you saved" thing. My husband used to say "how much would you save if you didn't even walk into the store?" lol. He used to make me so mad. But I really get it now. I should have listened back in the day.
My saying has always been, "if I don't see it, I don't need it"... I think my family hates it, lol🤷🏻♀️
OMG, YUP! HAHAHAH!
Yes to cable because my husband deals with significant medical issues and really doesn't get to go out. It's important to him. Debbie
One way to save when eating out is have ice water instead of another drink. Going for lunch instead of dinner is a savings too. Love your videos
🙏🙏Thank you so much Sandy! So glad you are here.
Today while I clean both my freezers out and throw some of it away I am having a Kate Kaden marathon! And I agree about eating out! We went to Long Horns yesterday for our 10th anniversary, and I got the lobster tail and filet minion, yes it was expensive, but we never go out to eat, and it is all about the experience
I have 13 Starbucks and 7-8 Chick-fil-a $10 gift cards I bought for Christmas gifts and didn't use. That covers all my January birthdays and maybe a break or two for me.
I ditched directv 10 years ago when the monthly bill went over $180. I don’t miss it at all. I now have a fire stick with free apps and that gives me more entertainment than I can shake a stick at. Not to mention the great stuff UA-cam offers like, you Kate.❤
I have cable. I love the feeling of flipping channels. I’m 34. My parents live with me so they have their favorite channels memorized. I don’t mind paying cable for them.
Happy Friday everyone! You Tube is my frugal cable :-). I stock up on some foods, mostly just before winter hits in case we have bad weather. I have a small garden, and last year I bought a dehydrator to dehydrate food. It cost some money up front, but over the years it will pay for itself. I'm still using dried green peppers from my garden last summer. They are good for adding to a meal you are cooking. This year I will experiment with other veggies. Being frugal can mean investing in an item to save money in the long term.
Good idea Donna! UA-cam is your cable! I LOVE IT!
Yes, having a garden is wonderful and my son gave me a small dehydrator, as he has a larger one.
Love having my garden veggies to use in the winter
Hardly ever buy vegetables or fruits out of seasons and no pre cut veggies 🥔🥕🧅🥬🥦🍍🍏🥭
Nice Chantal!!!! Good one!
Frugal people don't just go for the latest model if the old one still works. I love Dollar Tree also, but I limit my trips to maybe once a month. I would like to see a video on your prefer items from Dollar Tree.😉 This list was fun Kate! I was comparing myself to you also as you went, I do believe adapting minimalism & frugality to your own lifestyle is the best way as you mentioned.👍🌷
YASSSS!!!!! Loved reading this. Have a great weekend my friend!
I had to quit Target and Marshals. It's too tempting to buy some cutsy stuff I don't need.
@@sct4040 Exactly, I totally agree with you! 💯😊👍💛
I shop Dollar Tree on a 'as needed' basis. There are somethings I buy regularly - snail mail padded envelopes at 3/$1, bday cards 2/$1, Better crocker dry measuring cups, Butter Crocker food storage containers for leftovers and lunches 3/$1, gift bags. I almost NEVER go without a very short list and I am in and out. Works for me. Thanks Kate - good stuff - great affirmation for 'in place' habits.
@@bbuieb I have to try some of those items, if they are good quality and I can save, it's a go for me👍... I also have my staples from the Dollar Tree or 99cents Store(I have found great GF items that are about $5, at other stores). Thank you for sharing your good finds at Dollar Tree.😉💛
Love that story about Kaden automatically turning light off on you!
LOL!!!! It made me laugh!
I was watching the cats with the ribbon at the beginning hehe. Great tips😎
OMG!!! They love curling ribbon!!! I'm like okay but don't eat it!!! :):):)
Me too 😊
Love your videos hope for more. FRUGAL PEOPLE DONT PAY SERVICE CHARGES.
Unfortunately we still have cable. We live in a very rural area and the cable company is the only option for internet and that internet is not strong enough to stream tv.
When we lived in the suburbs we never had cable, I get sick every month when I pay that bill
Oh wow! That is such a bummer that you can't stream! I guess in that case I'd just see if there is somewhere else I could slightly cut back on to compensate for it. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE watching some juicy shows! LOL! If I couldn't stream I would definitely want some shows to watch.
We still have cable because my husband likes it, that's the only reason. He likes baseball and old movies. There are very few shows I watch on cable.
@@sct4040 same here. My husband loves sports and I just don’t quite understand how these sports apps work so we keep cable. The bill annoys me each month but gotta keep the man happy with his sports lol
I just have internet, no special streaming services. I watch UA-cam, which has lots of older movies and shows, and I check out items from my local library.
I use the internet to keep up with what is happening in the news.
Lol i can totally relate to the dollar tree. My niece says auntie is dollar tree rich
Love you Kate! You're my Shining INSPIRATION. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication. 🌹🌷🌹🌷🌹🌷🌹🌷🌹
Love you more Judy!!!! THANK YOU so much for being here. Appreciate you and your kindness more than I can say!
I think eating out and enjoying it is important. Not good doing it all the time but it is nice to get dressed and go out and enjoy yummy food. I get tired of eating w me haha
Love love the bed dive!!
Thank you Jan! I had a blast making that part! HAHAHAHAH!
Frugal people always tip their waitress or waiter when they go out to eat! We have cable but that is most of our entertainment.
I use a bunch of bar/hand towels instead of paper towels. I will get a paper towel for when it’s really needed. save money and save trees 🌳 😊
We do pizza weekly on Friday . It’s premade . It’s just easier for us and I find it easier with 3 kids when I get off work to have some frozen foods to just throw in and dinner be done . Keeps us from eating fast food . We haven’t eaten fast food in probably 2 months now .
YUM!!!!!
Frugal people don't worry about "keeping up with the Joneses". This is something that I have always believed and had in place even when I wasn't practicing frugality, lol.
Yasss Denise!
If you don’t want to pay for streaming subscriptions, check if you library has subscription to digital streaming like Hoopla where you can stream movies & tv shows for free. Also, your library may have tv series in DVD that you can borrow. I do all that along with watching UA-cam so I don’t have to pay for entertainment.
You’re so inspiring, really enjoyed this video!
Sara thank you so much! I'm so glad you are here!
Buns is in your basket getting ribbon out😂
🤣
lol the bed dive. I feel that dive. 🤣
I agree with you about credit cards and buying in bulk.
I mean, we do buy some things in bulk. But we always consider where we be able to store it AND if we will actually use it in a timely manner.
But not everything that is sold in bulk is actually a good price. That’s why it’s important to price comparing by unit price, instead of assuming that everything in bulk is a better price.
We also eat in restaurants. We feel that a budget frugal life doesn’t mean never having any fun. It means planning and budgeting so that you can have fun.
For instance, we made a spontaneous decision to go on a road trip this month. We had money set aside to go some time this year. But we are going debt free. Being frugal and having a budget gives you the freedom to have fun and spontaneous.
I live in a multi-unit building. When Covid hit, I was not only not feeling well, I was beset with a fair share of health issues, but I also found myself out of work. In the beginning of the Pandemic, it was truly frightening. If it wasn't safe to go to work, where would I be safe? Since I live in the multi, I am also forced to use a communal laundry room, as our units are not set up for hook-ups. On a good day, the laundry room was a mess. I would find myself having to clean up after others...just so I could wash my own clothes. How rude? Yes, but what was even more concerning, was this darn COVID! What was I going to catch in that laundry room sharing all of the germs of all of the tenants and owners?? Anyhoo...I started researching and ultimately ended up doing my own laundry, with myself as the bucket boy, soap mixologist, agitator, and wringer. WHAT A JOB, but I eventually came up with a decent system, and even purchased a spin dryer that dries via centrifugal force. I am saving some money as well as myself from the germs of others, and....I can do my laundry...whenever I darn well want. No more waiting in line with time restrictions, no more germs from the germies. Have bucket....will agitate!!!
My spin dryer is great, I would not be without it 👍
@@jodavb 14 months later...still using mine. At least every other day!!! Who knew??
I think it was a pretty good list and I would say I do most of them ... except for the never buy small quantities. I live alone and after going fom a family of 5 to 1, I eally needed to learn how to stop buying in bulk bcause it was just a waste and took up too much room. You mentioned enjoying The Dollar Tree, I don't go there often but the one place I really miss since moving from Maine is Reny's, do you ever go there? Also Marden's, really miss both of those stores and will definitely hit them both up when I am back in the state.
Hellooooo Rev. Ruth! I have many friends and family members that frequent Reny's and Mardens!
I also am a dollar tree junkie!! Please, do a video about dollar tree!!
DOLLAR TREE! YASSS RANEL! Okay I will work on that!
I was for a while too! I go in there occasionally for a specific item but always come out with more stuff! Lol. I was shopping with my daughter and she started laughing when I went in for gift bags and was trolling the entire store. I told her “I feel rich in here”. Haha she got a kick out of that.
A change this has helped me to make is on the eating out. I work at Tim Hortons coffee shop and think since I get a discount it's fine but nooo, it really adds up. For my budget it's best just to eat at home and leave eating out to a once a while treat. Remember the little things really do add up whether your spending OR saving. Thanks Kate! You look great!
YASSS!!!! (oh and thank you!!!)
I have shopped at the Salvation army they have many nice items
I use a credit card for points. I do pay it off every month. I have gotten some nice items that I would have never paid for!
I still have cable and I love it. The price of internet by itself is just as expensive. Almost like a BOGO!
When I go out I tend to get things that I can add to the next day. I add my Costco chicken to leftover soups, etc.
Happy frugal Friday Kate! 😊
Thank you Tammi!!!!!! Hope. you have an awesome weekend!
Great list and I do all but three,
I have cable, it’s the cheapest basic level for the sports stations.
I only use credit cards, one is for 2% cash back on groceries and the other is 1% back on everything else. (I’ve never paid interest on a credit card),
And last thing is experiences, I go out for dinner, I go to concerts and sporting events, and I must admit over the last year that has all even on hold.
But by doing all the other points mentioned in this video - it allows me to have the cable and a generous, what I call, entertainment budget.
I shop my friend’s closet for clothes and purses. I use the recommended fill line for laundry detergent and throw the cup in the laundry to wash. I use a pea size amount for toothpaste. Saves me on buying toothpaste. I use maybe 4 squares of TP when I go to the bathroom. I save a ton on TP. I don’t have cable. I UA-cam. The only subscriptions I have are Prime and KU(Kindle Unlimited)
I am big on frozen premade meals. I try and work as much as I get so I can get financially independent and I still need "me" time to read a good book and take care of myself. It is still cheaper than eating out which I know I would fall into quickly.....
I hear that Sussanne!!!! ME TIME! YASSSS!!!
I completely agree with the eating out bit. If I'm out, I'm out! I have a summer food budget all set up and we are enjoying every mouthful. In the winter I tend to cook all the time until Christmas when I have another eating out budget and we enjoy that fully too. I'm also a single parent so I feel I need that little break from cooking all of the time x
This video is very informative!! I noticed most of things I also do yayy!! I have to get better at some like not paying for cable. I have always had it but now that we are down to one income that will be the next thing to go... just realized how expensive it is and we normally end up watching Netflix. I also have a list when I go to the store and now with curbside pick up I do that to save money ☺️... no temptation on adding extra to my cart. Happy Frugal Friday!!
YASSS Yolanda! Thank you so much for watching and sharing with us!
I am always blessed by your advice
Thank you so much! ❤️
Frugal people don't always go for the cheapest option, saving up/spending more on a quality item will more often than not save you money in the long term.
You are so down to earth 🥰🥰🥰
KonstiGamer, thank you so much!
Frugal people learn to do repairs themselves, groom their animals, give haircuts and do their own mani / pedi.
I do still have basic cable but the prices keep creeping up every year. Dollar Tree is my favorite also. I’m selective and do find some made in USA products in there. Would love to see your fav pics from there.
Yes USA products!
These are good tips because I was buying things because they were on sale
I used to do it too!
I would like to here about great Dollar Tree buys. Kate also what not to buy. I am doing pretty good there is more to do. I so enjoy your videos. Thank you would love to come to Maine for seafood but definitely would save 🙂
Oh it's so good Cynthia!!!!!!! Okay I will start planning out my Dollar Tree video(s). Maybe one for what to get and one, what NOT to get:) (Or my preferences anyway)
love these tips Kate. buns playing in the corner.. Kaden lol.you've taught him so well..had to.get the food deliveries off my pH that was my Achilles heel . ty Kate
Great Video! Just today we went shopping for an Air Fryer. There was only one of the model that we wanted and it was the floor model. I talked to the manager, he gave us a discount of $16, yes indeed! Like you I enjoy the Dollar Tree, but limit my trips and know exactly what I am going in there for. While I am frugal, I don't buy cheap on certain things like shoes. As far as groceries, 90 % is store brand, however I have to have my Peter Pan Peanut butter. :) Blessings to you & Kaiden from Florida.
Lisa, I loved reading this! Way to go getting that discount on your air fryer! HECK YEAH! PETER PAN! LOVE that you have a preference too! HAHAH! We've got to have OUR peanut butter! :):):)
Just got home from CHICAGO,,,,, ordered coffee,,, fruit cup... 13.50. 😨 !!! Feeling so STUPID 4 doin that.... So when u mentioned Starbucks... Lol !!
I have a membership to Fresh Direct, and won't give it up. Getting grocery delivered is how I shop now. However, I did stop my membership to Amazon, save lots from impromptu shopping. BTW, the SAVE & Subscriber items ship for free monthly.
Hi Kate 👍 Bed dive 😂 Agree on dining out, I go for it too & have something different from home food! Good job on lights Kaden 👏 Frugality & minimalism I think the same as you.
HIIIIIII Sandra! So happy to see you!!!!!!!
Hi Kate! Just wondering where in Maine do you live! I live in New Brunswick Canada, and we are so close to Maine that it is literally across a small river.
Frugal people often wait.they do not ever, unless dire emergency, buy the latest whatever the instant it drops.they wait for the best price
and often do their research on an item
@@sussannerandall85 exactly.read all reviews,not just good ones

You are so inspiring !! Thank you Kate
Annie, thank you so so much. I'm so glad you are here. Appreciate you! HAPPY WEEKEND!
I definitely price compare. I am in the market for an outdoor umbrella clothes dryer. I have researched on line at all the stores in town. I am not getting the cheapest but getting the best for for the money. I want it to last a long time
Update.
Woohoo!!!
I checked the store flyer and the one I want is 20% off starting tomorrow.
Ooooh! that's awesome Una! 20% wooohooo!
I didn't mess up today I always stick to my list but today I walked into Publix and they had my favorite drink on sale buy 2 get 1 free
I have cable. My husband has to have easy access to baseball games and basketball games and he just doesn’t understand the streaming services so it would be so inconvenient for him is a better choice for me to keep table.
Same here!! The guys and their sports 😉
@@MsPants1632 And he always making me come to fix the remote because he messed it up. LOL

Happy frugal Friday, everybody! Hi cut out satellite last month! Since I got Wi-Fi! And other streaming services, such as Pluto TV, Tubi TV and other streaming services like Hulu, Netflix, HBO max, Prime movies which I only pay for prime movies and Hulu. The other two I babysit for my sister when she needs as payment! As someone who used to be seriously into natural bodybuilding, are used to box shop for food, and I still do that after all these years but I eat a lot less food!
You used to be seriously into natural bodybuilding? That's so cool! My friend Dina that I used to train with is also. What a great thing to be into! Thank you for sharing with us Marino. So glad you are here as always, love reading your comments. Have a great weekend my friend!
@@KateKaden yes, I was! I was eating up to 6 to 8 meals a day! And was working out twice a day sometimes. I wanted to focus more on spending time with family and friends N focus on frugality and minimalism. Watching your videos, I realized I wanted to focus on quality of life! Hi still do health and fitness, but just to stay in shape and to stay healthy! Have an awesome Saturday, Kate! Can’t wait for Sunday book club! I really enjoy book club every Sunday! And all your videos!
Yes DT store
Thank you Paola!
Yes, do a Dollar Tree video!! 😊
Hi Tanya! Okay I will work on this!
Hiii! How are you? Awesome! Love your videos.🥰
I’m not the most frugal person, but one thing that I don’t have is many subscriptions, ie: magazine subscriptions, or online subscriptions etc.
I made 54.00 on those clothes, shoes purses and cookbooks I purched 2 month ago!!
I only buy what I need when I go to the Mall! I will try TJ Maxx and Burlington before I would go to a department store if there is a good quality item there; if not, I will go to a department store.
We finally got rid of cable, just got too expensive!! Hulu is fine for us and much cheaper 😁. I just started watching these videos and my next goal is to cut the grocery bill.
@michelleharvey2667. If you pay Hulu by the year it is even cheaper. It has gone up but does save a little.
Love that dive into bed!!! Thanks for the smile.
LOL!!!!!! THANKS Karen! HAHAHAH!!!!!
Premade foods, I don't understand cake mixes or pancakes mixes, why? Isn't it just flour and baking powder?
I'm the same w/ credit cards - i only use them for the pts. .. however, i only use 0% cards as well, which could get some in trouble, if they allow it to build up bc of 0%.
Wonderful!!!
Frugal people don't buy produce they don't commonly eat otherwise it ends up in the garbage. I myself learned this the hard way. Now only buy what we all would eat.
I do buy toilet paper, paper towels, condiments we use like ketchup ranch, baby wipes, and a few others at bulk stores like Sam's Club but my rule of thumb is have to be down to the last one otherwise it waits until the next trip (typically 6 months) before its purchased in bulk again. Will pick up at grocery store if we run out in the meantime. That rule saves space
I too used to be drawn in by "sales" - now I just go "meh". I really DON'T WANT any more stuff. I don't care if they ask for $0.00, there is always a cost. After major decluttering, and especially after having to pay someone to get surplus appliances out of my house, I think about how I'm going to get rid of the item when it has served its purpose. This stops many an impulse purchase!
So I don't buy things often - this means that "no spend days" makes no sense for me; another reason I don't think it makes sense, is that we spend money every day: we eat, we reside and use electricity, we wear clothes, maybe we drive or take the bus.
But that being said, I think that frugal people don't mindlessly go for the cheapest, or necessarily without. Because we consider the value, not just the price - being cheap is not the same as being frugal, and minimalism isn't the same as ascetism. And that means we don't see wants separately from needs - I think a better word is desires? At least I know I get a lot of enjoyment out of planning and buying things I need, and using them. Like you do when you go out to eat. I think it must be pretty sad to regularly eat out, and have to pick the cheapest items on the menu to save money - I too would rather eat at home most days, and then splurge occasionally.
I try to avoid paying full price. There are even things I only buy at reduced price. Some things I stock up on. Some times I make spectacular mistakes.
Totally unrelated: If the encyclopedia should ever need an illustration for "ecuberant", I hope they know where to look. You make me happy ❤️
Oh, and I hope they can spell 😁
YESSS! You are so right! Thank you for sharing!
INGER that is the SWEETEST COMPLIMENT EVER!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! That just made my day. THANK YOU!!!!
All about balancing time money quality and quantity
No need to follow strictly to others as long as it works fine for my family and myself
Love this!
Frugal people don't loan family money, unless you are prepared to never see it again. If the money means more to you than your family, just say no.
I haven't had cable in 20 years.!
Nice dive👌
HAHAHAH! You KNOW I had fun with that one Chantal! HAHAH! Thank youuuu!!!!!
@@KateKaden Yes I do😂 .😝
I do fall for this from time to time especially on clothing
I wasted a ton of money this way
Tide is a huge rip off. I get the generic soap at Aldi that is “compare to Tide” and it’s perfectly fine and cleans just as well as Tide. You have to try generic detergents to find a good one and this one is the best I’ve found.
Awww, we don’t have Aldi:( Used to love it in Florida:)
I don't use a debit card. Only my discover card and then pay it off fully at the end of the month. I use the reward money to treat myself to something I've been wanting on amazon. I am very careful using my credit card though. Thats the key.
Thanks . So fun !
Thank you Pam!!! HAPPY WEEKEND TO YOU!!!!!!
Great video
Have an amazing day. Thank you!
I use my credit card for points towards hotel stays, and the free stay I get (which I would have had to pay out of pocket anyway cause I budget for travel) knocks out the low annual fee.
The Amex Hilton card is no fee, rewards for Hilton, Double Tree, and Hampton Inn.
Dollar Tree video please.
Hi Candie! Okay I will work on gathering my favs so I can share with you all:) HAPPY WEEKEND TO YOU!
Thank you for your videos, I am addicted to them, but here in the Philippines, we have no Dollar Tree, no coupons
Thank you so so much for being here! AHHH such a bummer about no dollar tree!! Hopefully you find some other cool places:)
Credit card tip: I've started paying mine in advance. If I know there's going to be a charge, I'll throw some money at the card even before the charge shows up in my account. The bank made SO much money off me in interest charges back in the bad old days that these days I begrudge them even a few cents of interest. So this way they get NOTHING from me! Ha!
LOVE IT PAULA!
I’m the same exact way going out to eat in a restaurant. I deserve it why not. I also HATE wasting food.
I find that with just 2 people in the family, it doesn't make sense to buy very many things in bulk.
Dollar Tree🥰‼️
Yeah😮😊
Wasting food is simply wrong. I have this mental message- waste not want not
Something else I'm trying to do/not do .. 🤔 is save change.. not spend it. Save it for future or when emergency comes. I'm a cash girl, so keep the change in an old coffee tin.
Love this Aleta!
I only go to the mall to get some food!!
I've got Satelite and my monthly bill is 114.00 dollars a month.when our contract runs out we are going to drop it or after a year we may buy it out and shut it off.I just got the internet on my phone and I don't know how to use it.Ill have to learn how to stream .
🤣 that dive was liiiffeee
AHHH!!!!!!!! THANK YOU! HAHAH!!! I had fun with that one! :):)
We have cable ONLY because it comes with our RV rental space. When we get a house it’s gone.
Nice Granny Prepper! Thank you for sharing with us. Hope you have an awesome weekend! Maybe see you Sunday on the LIVE?
Frugal people don't shop when depressed, but if they have to, they go with someone else to help them stay on track. It's hard being frugal when you are a major depressive, because one of the things people like me do is go out and shop to help boost the natural good chemicals in the brain. Shopping with a partner or friend can help boost those chemicals without overspending...or then again, it may make it worse, so choose your shopping buddy wisely!
I don’t have cable. Netflix as part of a family account. No streaming other than that.
Thanks for watching and sharing with us!
Good morning 😃
Hi Celia! Thank you so much for being here!
