- CURT'S MOM'S SAFE HOUSE, GUADELOUPE - One Day Later - After the disaster in Geneva, Curt and Tatiana take a much needed respite. Aided by motherly love and Tatiana's vulnerability, Curt is finally able to come to terms with the ghosts of his past.
SPIES ARE FOREVER is a new musical that follows the suave, yet arrogant, Agent Curt Mega after a tragedy forces him to reconsider the unstable world of espionage. But before long, Mega finds himself thrust into the shadows of Cold War politics, entangled with a Russian femme fatale, and uncovering a super villain’s plot to rebuild the Nazi empire. With a license to kill and the voice of an angel, Mega must stay alive, complete the mission, and prove to his enemies that the deadliest weapon of all is a little song and dance.

TCB handling heteronormativity, forced romance tropes and internalized homophobia is my aesthetic. I love Tatiana and Curt's bromance, because it's endearing and because it's refreshing.
I think a lot of non-camp masculine people relate to this internalised homophobia. Where you go through the motions of what you think "guy who ends up with woman is meant to be", but every step feeling awkward.
Mary Kate deserved a bigger applause for Prisoner Of My Past. She has such a gorgeous voice and her and Curt's acting is so natural!
I know this was two years ago, but I saw a comment from the creators saying that they made the audience softer so you could her the actors better.

The mentions of "getting the girl" have more to do with spy stereotypes and seducing women for information rather than real romantic relationships with them.

i have loved every part so far, but the songs in this one were just so amazing! i am glad that they decided to change it up so Tatiana (sorry if its spelled wrong) wasnt a sterotypical 'bond' girl or something. love the pause when curt is explaining Owen's death so to insinuate that they were more than business partners which they hadnt given us before (for those who havent seen the whole thing) (and assuming i didnt miss anything, which i probably did lol). i love that lauren is basically us anytime our OTP kisses or does something romantic in whatever fandom we are in.

Wait, that song was scarily accurate. The way both of them kept singing “I guess we’re doing this” and started flirting and kissing, not because they genuinely wanted to, but because they felt like they were supposed to. And the reference to heteronormativity with the “I’m a girl” “I’m a guy” and therefore they felt that they ought to like each other. And the use of clichée movie-like pick-up lines helped in showing that they didn’t want this, but they were just doing what they thought they had to/what they had seen in society and the media. Tatiana was raised to follow orders mindlessly, so it’s probably hard for her to let go of that mindset and stop doing stuff that she doesn’t want to do just because she thinks that other people want her to do it. And Curt seems to be very closeted (btw have not watched to the end of the musical yet, so I’m not sure if they’re going to expand on the obvious gayness), and he clearly has a lot of internalised homophobia, probably partly from his mother so desperately wanting him to find a girl. Maybe that’s why he rarely visits her, cause she’s always expressing how much she wants him to live that straight life, and it’s hard for him to always have to listen to that. But yeah, this song is way too uncomfortably realistic, especially as a queer person😅 Kids, don’t hook up with someone whom you don’t want to hook up with. Just because you think they want it, doesn’t mean that you somehow owe it to them. This goes for everyone, no matter sexual orientation.

There are so many shows I've watched where it's obvious one of the main characters isn't straight but they just don't talk about it and it makes me so mad and I love that they just casually say he gay I love thissss
this is quite honestly my favourite scene of any musical ever
A great story arch where the goal is not guy-gets-girl what, the world does not deserve this wonderfulness
Notice how Lauren plays two different mother figures for Curt.
Oh, I really like the way this song is written, especially with the back and forth inner monologue. It's a clever way of filling in all the holes of their relationship in a heartwarming manner. Also....it's now stuck in my head. To the next scene! :)
