And to think this could have been a moment where Sunak made a virtue out of a crisis by swiftly firing everyone involved and making a statement showing that he understands that corruption should not be tolerated, whether it breaks actual laws or not. The political instincts of a lemming, that boy.

Sunak’s behaviour has been cringe inducing. He might as well have said, “Just because it’s corruption, doesn’t mean it’s illegal. And I’m fine with corruption unless it breaks the law.” He acts like he needs the grownups to explain to him what, “morality,” is.
Representable people are blatantly profiting from their positions but there is no redress in law for the British Public. That's the problem!

There are 4 suspected ministers in the frame. If they did not place bets themselves, their family and fruends could have placed bets for them. This is insider trading/fraud.

For Sunak, £2 million isn't even small change. That would be a little 'flutter'. Besides which, I'm sure she and his billionaire consort have already placed their bets on the stockmarket. Like the casino bank, people like them never, ever lose.
He already made millions from 'betting' on the collapse of the Royal Bank of Scotland, a Bank that was forced to collapse by the actions of his hedge fund company. A bank that we then had to bail out for £45bn.

If this were happening in any other field/workplace they would be on garden leave during an investigation, without that being a reflection of guilt. Why is this not happening here with these candidates etc. The police have taken the right step however hard on the officer it may be.
If a company director had placed a bet on their company being taken over, following a board meeting where a takeover had been agreed upon, they would be charged by the police. If a senior manager had been informed by his director and placed a bet on the sale of the company, they would be sacked and charged by the police. The Tories by contrast do nothing in the knowledge that they can get away with whatever scandal engulfs them at the time.
It is several years since anyone could claim that the tories were capable of proper governmant. This betting scandal is small beer in comparison with the graft and incompetence that has gone unchecked since BoJo ruled.
Thankfully, it looks like a majority have cottoned onto the problem and will vote accordingly. In a few weks, the UK may have one of the better governments in Europe. I look forward to that.

It is a rare event, in the UK as well as internationally, for Conservative leaders to take action against their own when corruption is exposed. Sunak is typical in this regard. Corrupt behaviours are endemic within the Tories and Sunak’s feigned anger is just an act to fool the public. He, as is common amongst the Tories, perceives there’s nothing unusual in self-serving greed. Sunak is, and always was, inadequate, but his lack of action against corrupt behaviours is just a normal state of affairs within the Tories. Corrupt Tory behaviours are usually better concealed than in the current scenario. A major political skill most politicians develop is an ability to conceal the facts, and the capacity to maintain straight faced deceitful fabrications to turn lies into truth in the perception of the public.

Frivolous and tawdry behaviour by Conservatives who placed bets on this supposed central element of a democratic political system - regardless of inside information or the size of the bet. The response from Sunak is nothing short of pathetic.

Personaly i am amazed that anyone in the bookies business would offer odds and accept a bet on a proposed election date....there must be more than a possible whiff of information comming out of Westminster to those in the know. Offer odds on a white Xmas but not an event where even the Downing street cat picks up on a rumour.

All the people so far named either knew the date of the election as part of their roles or lived with people who knew and where reported to the Gambling Commission because they placed bets, a matter or record by definition. There are no ifs or buts about this, there is no "suspicion" involved here, they manifestly did place these bets on the basis of privileged information unless there is an issue with mistaken identity involved on the part of the bookmakers who reported them.
The police officer in question was suspended immediately, as is obviously right. That Sunak has not done the same with the relevant MPs and HQ employees is extraordinary. We already suspected that Sunak is unable to do politics. This election campaign has proved that with D-Day etc. And now we see he can't do leadership either. Inability to do both politics and leadership effectively disqualifies him from the position of Prime Minister I would say.
