I hope James understands how much it means to people that he's talked about what he was going through. Knowing someone I look up to went through that stuff helps more than I can say

@panda cooper i feel like it is, specially right now we can't see many people... it's helping us cope with loneliness. what you can't do, is have that as your only source of interaction

@panda cooper you're right, but i don't think he meant a romantic relationship, nor a best friend kind, so like... it's ok, no?

@panda cooper It seems that way because the toxic ones are the only ones everyone gets to hear about.

Nervous breakdown aside... James is not wrong about 2016. It was an excellent year for music.

Makes perfect sense that they're good friends! They're very similar, and I'd say they've probably picked up a couple mannerisms from one another over the years.

I saw one of his shows whilst he was having his breakdown, it was really sad and uncomfortable. Glad he's in a better place

Ah that's a shame, glad he's doing better.
What was he like during the show?

@@GoodKingMort while we all entered the room, he was just there on stage playing a song over and over again (Paul Williams - Euroleague), then his first set was kind of directionless. He second set wasnt even a set really, he told us how his girlfriend had left him for Rowan Atkinson after working with him and how he couldn't make sense of it.

@@forcey85 That’s all part of his special “Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999,” which is largely about his breakdown, but, as I understand it, was mostly developed after he got through the breakdown. Totally possible you caught him at an early stage of developing the material, when things were still raw, but that song and the Rowan Atkinson stuff stayed in long after he had moved past it.
Also, in later versions of the show, he clarified that the girlfriend who left him for Rowan Atkinson was not the breakup that led to the breakdown.

@@forcey85 was this the residency he did at the Vaudeville in London in 2018? The way you're describing the show reminds me very much of that - the repetitive playing of Euroleague etc. That was an early version of 'Cold Lasagne...' and I actually remember that first half being excellent - the whole eclipse storyline and holidaying in France with his walkman. The whole show was brilliant to my memory. As Mijacogeo says I think that was mostly 'after the fact' in terms of both breakup and breakdown, but I appreciate the show you're describing may have been something earlier than that
