I must get THIS AND a BluRay player! I saw Dance Craze in the movie theatre here in Los Angeles back in the 80s and I want to say it was at the Rialto Theatre in Pasadena and even then the movie was not as clear as seen in the Blu-ray;
Pre ordered it in California. I could not be happier. Great video great audio.

For me, all you need is the vinyl. See the film at the cinema if you can.
We see it in '81, at the local cinema, Harlow Essex, Saturday afternoon, they had to stop it, because everyone got up dancing and they said that they wont put it back on again, not untill everyone goes back to their seats!!!
Then when they turned it back on again, everyone got back up dancing!! Lol!
So they just left on and let everyone get on with it!!!😂

I purchased my Blu-ray copy three weeks ago after stumbling upon ‘Dance Craze’ here on UA-cam.
I’m a Madness fan, and always have been. I was 15 when they first hit the charts in 1979, and I’ve seen them perform live twice - both times in Liverpool.
At the age of 60 this year, I’m ashamed to say that I’d never even heard of Dance Craze until this year, and I’d never listened to The Bodysnatchers (they were awesome).
The Blu-ray quality of Dance Craze is superb as you said. It’s almost as if it was only filmed last week.
I can’t believe I missed out on this film for so long, but better late than never I suppose.

Hi Stripey. New sub here. I was looking for reviews of the remastered Dance Craze on YT and yours came up. Watched it and ended up binge watching a lot of your videos over the weekend. You my friend have a bloody good taste in music similar to my own so had to sub. So much so that it made me dig out my original vinyl copy of Dance Craze, Madness albums etc and replay them. Do you have any idea where I can find a Blu-ray or DVD for USA region 1? Until I saw your video… I hadn't heard of this remaster of Dance Craze! I've got to have it! Is it possible?
As far as I'm aware, this is a region 2 release only. The set is a double pack Blu-Ray/DVD. It's on Amazon for £9.99 (cheap)
Can your Blu ray player be modified to play all regions?
@@StripeyR unfortunately no. It's such a great thing! I wish I could have one. It would be nice especially to see it in the theater. Perhaps a theater in San Francisco might show it. I don't live too far from there. At any rate, Stripey, glad to meet you I subscribed.

I pre-ordered a DVD Blu-ray. It arrived here in the states over the weekend. Neither will play on any of my devices, because the DVD is region two and all of my devices play region one movies….
Oh man, what a bummer. Have you looked up your player to see if there's a hack for you player to play region 2? I had this problem, so I bought a multi region player. I do hope you can get it sorted mate.
Saw it in my local cinema last week, I was the only one in the cinema. Haha!! Still it was a stunning sound, fond memories and the picture was so clear, it was also great seeing the faces of the audience so clearly. Excellent review Stripey.

Got a question for you on one of the songs on Dance Craze.The Bodysnatchers song Easy Life. Its quoted on the album and cd editions as being filmed and shot at The Electrict Ballroom in London.if you watch the Specials doing nite klub at the end ,its the same stage but that is shot at Leicester Demont Hall. Wonder if they got the venue name wrong? Or it could be Portsmouth George Hall where the selecter is doing on my radio. Cheers

Cheers matey. I know there was a concert with Bad Manners and the Bodysnatchers and swinging cats but can't find it on the ballroom website in early 1980 but do have the flyer.That bodysnatchers Easy Life footage was from Portsmouth One the Selecter too much pressure tour in feb/March 1980 I think but still looks like Leicester de montfort hall but no bodysnatchers were on the more specials tour in September/October 1980.real puzzle this one.
The reason* for this is that some of the audio and video performances are different. i.e. what's on the original LP soundtrack is not necessarily the same version as what appeared on the film. Thus the expanded soundtrack LP and CD sets now include the versions from the film as well as the original album versions from 1981.
To further complicate matters some of the performances and audio may have been recorded during soundchecks and then spliced together to make the film and soundtrack.
What I do know is that Dermot at Chrysalis spent a couple of years on this project on and off trying to research which bits were recorded where and when in order to make this reissue as complete as possible. His research included looking at the original studio tape details as well as researching with the director of photography and consulting fans, some of whom knew more about it that I did when he asked me! My answer was broadly "blimey I didn't know that, sounds really interesting!".
I've managed to be more useful on Terry, Blair and Anouchka, Fun Boy Three and Colourfield reissues both in the past for Cherry Red and ones that are in the pipeline on Chrysalis by the Fun Boy Three and The Colour Field. Both of the last two will be brilliant when they see the light of day. Trust me...
*Another reason may be that the info Dermot found when researching was wrong. But, like you, I am convinced that The Bodysnatchers played at the Electric Ballroom in 1980 with Bad Manners and possibly The Swinging Cats.

Also, please do a review of Complete Madness. Most people I knew, didn’t realise that the HOF version on CM was different on the single version.

I saw this movie in 1981 in NY. People where standing up and dancing in the theater! It was great. I have it on dvd when it first came out. I am looking forward to the 2023 new released! I live in NYC. and ordered it from the UK. I can’t wait to see it!

Grew up just outside Cov, so felt like the specials belonged to us. They were a light in a childhood of Thatcherism. Last seen jerry doing a dj set at a Neville staple gig a few years ago. Still the same jerry. 😎
Great review Stripey. Got the original tape upstairs still on the shelf as well as the LP, without the poster though. That's long gone with the ravages of pinholes and time. Watched the blu-ray yesterday on the projector with the 5.1 set up and a 92" screen. Couldn't sit still when Man at C&A came on. Skanking in the spare room! and my better half said she could here it half way up the street on her way home from work. The BFI have done a stunning job on this. It was finally good to see it in a widescreen set up and not the old 4:3 boxed ratio. A commentary would have absolutely finished the package off. Physical media should be treasured in these awful streaming digitised days of a throwaway culture. Good stuff fella.

Great review mate. I was lucky enough to see it at my local Odeon aged 12 or 13 and then on the VHS in 1989*. I've seen it twice again at the cinema lately and it is still getting some screenings around the UK. One of the screenings I went to was at the BFI iMax in London. It was shown there again on 22nd April 2023 and will be shown again there on the 27th or 28th April. It is totally different gravy seeing it on the huge iMax screen with the Dolby Atmos surround sound.
The Q&A afterwards hosted by Mark Kermode with Joe Dunton, Jerry, Pauline Black, Buster Bloodvessel, Mike Barson, Woody and Rhoda Dakar was a brilliant bonus. I filmed it but can't put it on UA-cam just yet due to copyright etc. Suffice to say it was very informative. Lee thompson, Neville Staples and another Bodysnatcher (Penny Layton their keyboard player, I think) were also there, but not on the impromptu stage.

* The VHS, numerous UA-cam videos and the hooky DVDs made from them are all near unwatchable compared to this Blu-ray release. Not sure if you mentioned on your other video, but if you buy the Blu-ray you get a DVD as well. They are identical, but the BFI often do this so that most of your bases are covered if you don't have a Blu-ray player. I only bought mine for an XTC re-release programme that started a few years ago that was CD and DVD to start with before quickly changing to CD and Blu-ray. Even on my £30ish player it looks and sounds great.
The BFI iMax screening sounded amazing, so many legends on stage for the Q&A. If you ever post the video mate I'd love to have a watch. cheers fella
In 1980 I saw Selector, Specials and Madness playing together at my University - UEA. A great night.🎉🎉 seen these groups separately since - most recently Madness at the Hydro in Glasgow .
The Uni gig in 1980 must of been amazing, Paul.
I've been lucky enough to have seen them all but much later. I'm due a Madness gig, not been for a while.
