Mike: I’ve followed you for a long time and regret that I didn’t notice you had started a separate channel for Studio One. So I have some catching up to do. I want to thank you for helping me with music production (in general), and S1 in particular. Your non-musical vids have also been very helpful and inspiring. I’m among the “older” listeners you sometimes mention, so your concise and entertaining presentations are much appreciated. Us older folks don’t have much patience and appreciate your ability to quickly “get to the point.” You are one of the very best instructors/therapists I have ever encountered. I’m glad to see that you have truly found your calling in life.

Hi Arthur. Thank you so much for this, it's much appreciated! I'm glad to hear I've been of help, and hope to see you around here often!

Saturation knob is always free. It also has an update that included a gain output knob (and auto gain function) to account for the gain increase when pushing the saturation. Great video as usual!

The way you eq is exactly what i feel is very optimal for me as well ❤ thank you so much for the video. This is a gem on UA-cam.. I'm thinking of switching to studio one after watching how easy the workflow is

Fabulously informative as usual. I always struggle with EQ and Compression and your vids make it all a lot clearer. Don’t stop doing them, I need ‘em. 👍

I always forget there's a dedicated de-esser plugin in Studio One now. I'm so used to using a third-party plugin or stock multiband compressor lol. Thank you 😊

As far as eq on a vocal, I used to be a mad sweeper, identifying all manner of frequencies to cut. These days I high pass, low shelf a bit under 4 or 500 and boost a shelf at a frequency point where it sounds nice. An eq like Goodhertz Tone Control is great for this. Nice and simple. But any eq will do it.

15:26. A year of using Studio 1 and I've only just learned that the gain knob on the Tube Comp is output gain. Doh!

Thanks for all your videos Mike. Really helpful stuff. Well explained and easy to understand. I’m new to Studio One and your channel is a fantastic resource - not only for Studio One, but also for filling the gaps in my knowledge of recording and mixing in general. Keep up the great work. All the best 🙏

Dumb question: Why does one put an EQ plug in before the Reverb plug in on your Bus instead of after?

    • @i_jetlag
      @i_jetlag Рік тому +2

Logically, Reverb makes everything wide. Tame the signal before sending it through a reverb to make sure the unwanted frequencies aren't getting reverberated. Usually I use an EQ before and after the reverb on the same chain. Most of the times I use a Reverb Send.
I'm not a pro at mixing btw.

If your reverb is a linear process, like if you're using an impulse response, it'll make zero difference which order they go in.
You can prove this if you like: render the track twice, alternating the order on the second render, then subtract one from the other. You'll end up with silence, meaning it makes no difference which order you go in.

I would like to know if you use any hardware preamps or compression at the recording step.

Thank you for the video! The character of the vocal sounds a little boxy to my ears. 200-500h.
Is that a coloration of the mic or pre-amp that you chose to keep?

Hello Mike could you do a video on your settings, I try to do some of the things you do, but even though we both have the newest versions I do have some of the things you have because I do not have them turned on or off. Please help

I tried about half dozen times to install that saturated vocal thing it took over 2 hrs. Never got it to install. So I just deleted the download. Not worth all the pain in the ass to get it to install. Even if it’s “free”
Cost me quite a bit of my time

When I right click on an audio event Gain Envelope is not an option to check - it is missing between Bend Marker and Time Lock. I have Studio One Artist - do I need to upgrade to get this feature or is it a setting somewhere else? Thx. Great videos

Is it better to have the delay go to the reverb and then to the vocal bus (so that the reverb is affected by the delay), or send the delay and reverb separately to the vocal bus in order to keep them independent?
