  • Although the TT is related to the A3, this isn't an A3 with it's top sawed off. Instead the TT is quite simply one of the best handling vehicles with a transverse engine. Period. It's not practical, it's not particularly efficient, other cars are more reliable or more luxurious but few are more fun.

    I love how you put yourself in the trunk... in case I ever become a mobster, I'll know what to buy and what to avoid :)

    Being an '08 TT owner (3.2L roadster), I really appreciate this review. I love love love the way it handles and have found no other car that I like to drive as much. I'm sure there are many others who will poo-poo the TT as a car that won't do what the other sport cars WILL do (slide all over the track?), I'll stick to that riding on rails performance any day. Thanks for the final note about the MMI being a bit more difficult to use (as opposed to the central positioning). Good food for thought.

    this is one of the best review of the tt thanks!!

    To my taste, the TT looks much better than A3 inside and out from what I saw in the two videos. A car like this will most likely be a 2nd car one owns, more like a toy, and as such, a nicer looking one is preferable to a more practical.

    Great review. After viewing dozens of car reviews, I believe you are the best auto reviewer UA-cam has ..............

    Excellent coverage of the car. I was only vaguely aware of the TT, and you provided a LOT of useful information in a clear manner.

    I loved this look back in October, but its already looking dated. Only a DCT? Get a Miata.

    I'm thinking of upgrading to this from a 2013 MX-5 Miata. My only concern is the difference in size. I don't mind tuning with APR stage 1.

    I'd just get a 2 year old Alfa 4c for the same price. Actually... I'd buy a Lotus Elise for less than both and get a manual transmission.

    i love the front and back design. but at 3/4 and side view it looks very feminine. i'm getting a "AWWW what a cute car vibe"

    Unless I missed it, I would think the first thing you would show in a convertible is how to operate the top.

    Hey Alex - I could picture you owning this car! Maybe I'm way off but you look good with this TT.
    ?: I always thought fog lights were placed low in order to illuminate the road below the level of the fog. Is this not the case??
    Thanks. Great review on a nice vehicle.

    I had a 2011 BMW Z4. Honestly Alex it handled amazing and on felt like it was on rails!! Still miss that car to this day. I never drove the TT but always heard they were worse than the BMW Z4. Maybe they changed it for this generation.

      +freakincrazy6932 My best friend had a 1st gen TT, and it handles really well but the ride was too firm. Anyways, I wouldn't buy the current TT because its rear design is still too feminine, and the Z4 has a better crash test result in EuroNCAP. The refreshed SLC looks better than this TT too.

      freakincrazy6932 I owned a 2nd generation tt roadster with only front wheel drive. I never took it to a track so I can not speak about any technical stuff. The car was a monster on premium fuel! It pulls you in a very exciting way when you punch the accelerator. Yiu definitely feel like you are riding a chariot of sorts. Lol. After driving several front wheel cars, the TT...wel, it just feels quick and responsive. The short tutbo lag gives you just enough time to ready yourself. Be careful of overcorrecting or the joy from that car will be short-lived.

    +Alex on Autos. Question for you: Would you buy a used 2015 loaded A3 2.0T cabrio with sport pack (they are out there now for 37 grand) or a used 2012 S5 cabrio for 37 grand? i have driven them and like them both - the interior design/infotainment of s5 feels horribly old. The a3 actually feels funner to drive around town but the s5 comes to life when you really drive aggressively on B roads. This car would be a fun and comfortable daily driver - i have a cayman track car.

  • @geraldbennett7035

    I drove this car today and came away unsure because of things that may sound small but they impacted comfort. The foot rest was too far back, which caused me to shift myself to the right. The brake peddle is too close to the accelerator and it tripped me more than once.The door does not support your elbow and placing your arm on top of the door is not possible, its too far away. On longer trips this will be a problem. Alex, can you begin to comment on overall comfort? The shifter must be pushed to the right to shift manually and it feels too far away from you. It was also a noisy motor, in sport mode. There is a noticeable and constant amount of vibration in the car (coupe). On the plus side, the acceleration is fine and the car is solid around corners. I'm doubting making an offer.

    Out of curiosity, how does the handling of the FWD A3 compare to the AWD A3?
    Also, it's kind of crazy that there are compact sedans that handle better than dedicated RWD roadsters. (A3 = TT > Z4/SLC)

    Great Review Alex. I honestly never really paid this segment too much attention aside from the Porsche product. I think that this car has one of Audi's most stylish designs and the performance is impressive for a 2.0 & a 6spd DCT.

    I am thinking about buy the 2016 porsche cayenne hybrid, what is your thinking on the gas mileage

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  8 років тому +2

      +barbara mathis I suppose it depends on why you are looking at the hybrid. If you want to "save money" then it's never really going to happen. The hybrid is more expensive and the time to break even is beyond a realistic lifetime of the car. If on the other hand, you want the hybrid to reduce your gasoline consumption or just because you think it's a cool car to have, then it's a good buy. In general most hybrids won't "save money" long term but they will cut your fuel use.

    • @chrissorreda4982
      @chrissorreda4982 8 років тому +1

      Buying a Hybrid in the US doesn't make sense for now, Gas is cheap, Hybrids are more expensive, etc. just buy the base V6 model and spend the extra money for options :)

    • @nicktune1219
      @nicktune1219 8 років тому

      i think the only reason you buy a hybrid like that is because of the extra power and not the fuel economy. if you want the fuel economy, get the prius or a ct200h

    So, my question is how does this compare to the Audi A3 Cabrio? That is about $10k less. I know they're different cars, but would you personally spend the extra $10k on the TT Roadster? I'd have a hard time justifying the extra money, unless the differences were night and day.

    Take the roof off a car and it's ruined. Hardly 'immediately recognisable as a TT'. Blends in with the pack.
