I'm gonna do it.. That nice remaster on 4AD is 25 USD right now. Might wait for the early January sales. I have a beautiful original copy of garlands on vinyl, and that's it.. Lot's on Cd.

I’m glad to see that Northern Pikes album. I think I agree that side one is excellent because most of the songs I can remember (haven’t played it in years) are from side one. Happy New Year, Brian!

I once read something - perhaps on Wikipedia - that there used to be a formula for listing singles on albums. It might have referred to the sixties, but the general rule was that the second and third singles were tracks one and two on Side A, and the first single was the first track on Side B. However, I feel your observation that the first track was the first single was probably the way it went by the 1980s and possibly even since sometime in the seventies.

Had never heard Cocteau Twins to my knowledge but did so now and enjoyed it. Well, I'm going back up to Oslo tomorrow so trying to relax and listen to something soothing. Long day tomorrow but at least I don't have to get up at 5 in the morning. Take care.
Come to think of it, Easy Pieces was probably my first Lloyd Cole and the Commotions LP as well. I was sure you would already have been a Cocteau Twins fan! I don't think I have ever gotten out of bed at 5:00 🙂

Hi Brian, thanks for doing a response. I agree with you 100% on Easy Pieces. It's an album that has really grown on me over the years. I think the track "Rich" is my all time favourite Lloyd Cole song.

Excellent video Brian. Great, challenging topic. Of the ones you've chosen, Excitable Boy is a stand-out for me. That first side is amazing. The B Side is pretty damn solid too. Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Excitable Boy is maybe my fav Zevon record. I know people always talk about his self-titled LP from '76, which is awesome, but Excitable Boy might have the edge for me 🙂

I think those early Kraftwerk albums are hard to find, but the represses are good, or so I have heard. You should get on that! I am not sure why, but Cocteau Twins just passed me by. Better late than never, I guess! I wish I had seen Sugar. Maybe my ears are grateful that I didn't see them. I saw Bob solo, and that was loud enough.

I love that Warren Zevon album, that is a perfect side. I have a few Commotions albums but I can’t say I have ever really listened to them a lot, need to fix that. Love that Sugar album! OG, quite jealous. I need to do this one of these days.
The funny thing is that the Sugar record isn't really worth a whole lot, judging by Discogs. But, I have never seen a copy anywhere since I bought mine, so I guess it is rare on some level.
I was at a party on July 4th 1975 with my girlfriend. We had both taken acid before going to the party. We were in the backyard tripping on the fireworks. The dude giving the party approached us and said you have to listen to this album. He played side one of Autobahn. Holy cow that was a trip.
Hell yes to Pretenders, Kraftwerk, and Killing Joke. 9:10 - I would have said "Snow In June", side 1. But "only Canadian group"? No mention of Rush's "Moving Pictures" side 1? Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, YYZ, Limelight. How does it get any better than that? And Sloan's "Twice Removed" side 1 is spectacular.
Snow in June is an excellent choice, and I wish I had it on vinyl 😶 I had Moving Pictures in my hand before I made the video, but others had already mentioned it, so I put it back. Sloan is also a killer choice. I should have thought of that one!
It would be difficult to say which side of The Pretenders debut album is the perfect side for me because I think the whole album is perfect. "Learning to Crawl" came close to being another perfect one from them, but I would say side 1 of that one is a perfect side and side 2 is a little less perfect, but still great. I need to still listen to the Faust record, but I think your other picks make for a flawless response to the thread. I would also have side 1 of The Church's "Gold Afternoon Fix" is also a perfect side if I could only find myself a great copy of that one. I have really got to get a copy of that in 2025.
I agree; both sides of that Pretenders record are really perfect. I have had a really difficult time finding copies of any record by the Church. I only have two LPs from them. Your comment was flawless 🙂
