I'm glad my 86 442 came factory with the quick ratio steering box I did a quick and cheap upgrade by adding a third gen f-body power steering cooler to my car and added the twin electric fans from the third gen f-body I like your videos I'm doing a lot of the same things to my car that you are doing. Thanks for all the great content your sharing 👍👍
As noted I think in a comment down below, steering box from 3rd gen Camaro or Firebird 82-92, it is imprinted with a Z on the top of the steering box which tells you what has the quicker steering ratio. You are correct all of my SS Monte Carlos have the same steering box with the Z, which agian indicates the quicker steering ratio. Thanks for the info on the steering shaft. Peace out.
If you are upgrading the box to a quicker 12.7:1 ratio box, you need to upgrade the power steering pump flow rate and pressure. The flow restrictor and relief is in the back of the pump where the high pressure line comes out. Drill the office to #26 (0.147") and remove the shim from the relief valve.
@@SkinnyPedalMotorsports I was referring to the stock Saginaw pump with the 16:1 box. you will need to do a flow rate and pressure output check on the LS pump
These Cardone's fit in a lot of GM products. Great swap for a 12.7 ratio upgrade. Just know that the spline is 3/4 30 vs a 36 spline that was in 60s and 70s cars. Just means you need a new rag joint that is 30 spline.
got it in my 84 cutlass with the jeep steering shaft but now my power steering line connections are too big got to get lines with smaller diameter connections to fit
I know this is an old video but do you remember if this gearbox is slimmer than the original one you removed? It kind of looked like it was from the video when they were side by side but not sure.
hey man, nice video. was wondering if you tried to tighten up the worm gear adjustment on the old box? immaterial know i know, had same issues and that helped me, was going to replace the box as well guess i got lucky.
I bought the same gear box on Amazon.. i saw your video where u got a junk yard cherokee steering shaft , in my area there are none for me to find .. what other steering shaft would work with this same gear box
just a fyi it weighs 28lbs nd 8 oz ha ha great video doing a 83 cutty lq9 swap right now keep up the great work dude ( if your not on the brake you better be on the skinny pedal)
@@SkinnyPedalMotorsports thank you sir....last question everything in my car is original....due to the ratio difference will I need to change anything else or be aware of?
@@SkinnyPedalMotorsports I will make sure and do that. The part I am talking about is the pitman arm under the gear box. I cant get those teeth to align with teeth that connect to the steering shaft. Should I disconnect the tie rods like you did? Sorry for the confusion.
hey skinny, has anyone seen a full gbody kit from QA1 or BMR frame off comparison to a something like a custom schwartz frame? like this ua-cam.com/video/dQEzgwMsJFs/v-deo.html

I Sure wish you would have included the step how you disconnect the pitman arm and the Idler arm from the centerlink
used the old nut threaded on and smacked it with a hammer.

It was a few on the passenger side but I’m not sure the exact number
Will you please tell me what brake line set up you ran to make your rear end work
Just brake line and used the factory connection

Thanks man. Sounds like a fun swap 🤘🏼
When turning lock to lock do your tires touch your sway bar at all?
Jody Pierson no but I do have stops installed on the umi arms I have.
Skinny Pedal Motorsports I have a summit brand that is a little fatter than stock, it will touch just a little bit, I still have factory a arm’s
Nice. I have the umi arms. I need to see if it’ll rob without the stops.

Honestly not sure
What’s the part number
It’s in the description box.
I have a G Body MC SS. I replaced it but my flat spot on the steering shaft wont align with the teeth for the pitman arm. Any advice?
You have to notch your steering side for it to fit
@@SkinnyPedalMotorsports Thanks for the reply. How do I do that? I am also going with the jeep steering shaft as well. Thanks again
The shaft out of the firewall had be notched so the Jeep shaft can slide over it
