  • This recording is from July 15, 1984 at the Tuin Paviljoen, North Sea Jazz Festival. The Miles Davis Septet was a ensemble led by trumpeter and composer Miles Davis. This particular configuration of Davis's band emerged during the late 1950s, showcasing a distinctive and influential sound that contributed to the evolution of jazz. Miles Davis, already renowned for his contributions to cool jazz and hard bop, assembled the septet with a group of exceptionally talented musicians. The septet's lineup typically included Davis on trumpet, John Coltrane on tenor saxophone, Julian "Cannonball" Adderley on alto saxophone, Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, Philly Joe Jones on drums, and, at times, Jimmy Cobb replaced Jones on drums. The septet was instrumental in shaping the modal jazz movement, exemplified by the groundbreaking 1959 album "Kind of Blue." This album, considered a masterpiece in the jazz genre, featured compositions like "So What" and "All Blues".
