I just heard them at the Blue Note in Aoyama tonight!! What a fantastic concert it was. Everyone was so ON and sublime. Kurt used a Vanguard KR (his signature model) model by a Japanese custom guitar shop, Westville, with Ken Armstrong Custom Humbucker pickups, which sounded absolutely gorgeous!! I loved Jean-Paul's arrangement of Chopin's pieces.

Honestly gives me a very Dave Brubeck-y feeling. Very mellow and soothing. Just replace the guitar with a saxophone and this would sound like something pulled out of “Time Out”.
I like this, it's the flip side of Nikolai Kapustin (fully-composed classical in an improvised jazz idiom - check it out.) I do wish that Kurt hadn't used that flute-y synthetic tone though.
