Hi, I'm constructing a water collection and treatment system. I set up a mixed sand and pea gravel test column where I mixed both together in various ratios instead of layering them so that the filtration rate is not determined by the slowest sand layer alone. I'm timing the flow through rate of different ratios to find an optimum mix.

maybe we could conclude that the cheap way to filter water from its impurity is with sand filter
How long before the sand isn't usable anymore?
Sand need not be replaced often.
It can be regenersted through a back wash pumping system ,ie puming fresh water under pressure in reverse direction by an exclusive back wash pump periodically ie once in a fortnight Or in a month.
slow sand filters are hot garbage in a dumpster fire
