To appreciate this there needs to be a howling gale, nighttime in a small building on the quayside somewhere like Lyme Regis. And plenty of hot chocolate and biscuits.
Shipping forecasts are the backdrop to my childhood, and how boring I found them, listening along with mum (who had absolutely no need to listen), with a faint background whine from the airwaves through the valve radio. I now love to listen but it's with nostalgia and emotion as it conjures up such lovely family memories and a time when life was simple and uncomplicated, and home a complete sanctuary.
I often listen to the late night forecast whilst tucked up in bed on my narrowboat. The canal is generaly 'calm' but 'gale, south or south west 8' does sometimes make it move about a bit !
Had it on in background to help me sleep; fantastic. There's another recording that is only 5 or 6 hours long so not long enough to last the whole night.....if you then have to wake yourself up to re-set then youve kind of defeated the object of going to sleep.
The shipping forecast never turns me down and I trust it night after night - works even in full moon...losing its identity...slowly...Greenwich Light Vessel Automatic...at times...good...zzzzzzzzzzz

This is the type of shit you listen to when you go into your parents bedroom at night because you can’t sleep and they keep the radio on. I would wait for 5 hours and it would change. It’s really nice now
Which numbers? The single (occasionally double) digit ones are wind speeds from the Beaufort scale. The ones around 1000 are barometric pressures. The locations are all named rather than numbered, though they do come in a specific order so you could say there's an implicit numbering.
open a second or a third window/tab and play videos with the sounds that you want to mix with hits. Personally - having just the voice makes this video preciously useful...and otherwise, probably not.
On God. I used to drive at night going to NY from VA all the time. Night driving was nothing. I think anything over 20 mins driving at night is literally too much. You can hardly see anything. It's literally going on hopes that nothing pops out while your driving.
This video is good, becoming variable, occasionally poor.
lol :)))

Yep that too. It's the little things in life.
Ooh, that detail "Lyme Regis" really brought the horror home.
You can open up a second tab and find howling gale sounds.
Nice descriptive visualizations....

I do declare this the one of the finest piece of cinematography in all the sphere.
In all seriousness, I'm mesmerized by this. It's the best sleep video I've seen. It knocks me out.
Love the Shipping Forecast, Inshore Waters & Costal Reports. Being a mariner it saves lives including my one! Thanks for the video!
